Chapter 285: The Birthday Problem
Li Yan swiftly moved to grab her fist.
He frowned slightly in confusion, "I say, silly girl, I do like that you’re a cool fighter, but you can’t just hit people randomly. A barbaric girlfriend and violent tendencies aren’t good."
"Hmph! You deserve it!!" Li Jie attempted to yank her fist back but failed, her face showing even more displeasure.
Li Yan released his grip, allowing her to withdraw her fist. He then smoothly moved his chair closer to her, tightly hugging her.
"What did I do? This is absurd! If you don’t give a reasonable explanation, I might have to properly punish you here in the office." Li Yan licked his lips.
There were still people working outside. When he ca in, he only closed the door to keep things discreet but didn’t bother locking it. Generally speaking, no one barges into the boss’s office, but in case of an ergency or if a particularly hot-headed colleague ca in, it could be trouble!
The chance of being caught at any mont added to the thrill!
Seeing him getting fresh with her in the office made Li Jie’s face turn even darker. Feeling ashad and angry, she rembered what she had agreed to earlier. Apparently, he felt since she had agreed, he could be even more brazen! If things went on like this now, who knows how he’ll treat her in the future!
Suddenly, a tear of grievance slipped down the corner of her eye...
Li Jie was crying!
A strong, cool girl like her was actually crying!

Li Yan gave a bitter smile and released her. "I wasn’t trying to harass you. It’s just... I had good intentions, but you suddenly attacked without a word, making feel like it’s a case of soone mistaking a kind person for a bad one. Alright, stop crying. I won’t punish you now, okay?"
After he let go, Li Jie felt slightly better and regained her determination, saying angrily, "You’re the dog! Where were your good intentions? You, a philanderer, leave your affections everywhere, and still try to corrupt my dad! Is that what you call kindness?"
Li Yan was puzzled, "When did I try to corrupt your dad? Your dad calls ’virtuous son-in-law,’ and I’m careful not to contact him too much. How could I corrupt him? Do you an smoking? We do smoke a lot, but that’s not my doing!"
"Hmph! You’re just playing innocent! You ntioned sothing about the ’serious business’ between the two of us, and my dad’s ’serious business,’ saying it has nothing to do with you? My mom passed away years ago, but my dad still loves her and never thought of remarrying, unlike you! Now you’re even suggesting ideas to help him handle ’serious business!’ Hmph! I get it, you’re worried my dad will pressure you into marrying , so you plan to get him married first, using a woman to shut him up?" Li Jie was so angry her chest heaved.
Li Yan was dumbfounded. What in the world is she talking about!? How could her mind leap to such conclusions?
No wonder she asked whose idea it was!
Li Yan slapped his thigh and smiled bitterly. He hadn’t realized it at the ti and had even said, "Of course it’s my idea. Your dad can’t find out; it should be a surprise! n rarely get surprises. At his age, if he misses the chance for a surprise, life will just get duller."
She was already assuming it was about that, and emphasizing surprise for n would only deepen her misunderstanding! Saying that at his age, without excitent, life gets duller later on was like suggesting he finds soone at fifty before it’s too late doesn’t help!
"You’re misunderstanding!"
"As long as you’re upright, you aren’t afraid of shadows! If your thoughts aren’t crooked, why fear others will think crookedly?" Li Jie didn’t believe he could straighten this out.
"When I said serious business, I ant real serious business, not what goes on between us." Li Yan sighed, "Did you forget? You once said your father is approaching his fiftieth birthday, and you plan to organize a big celebration, gathering as many people as possible. You don’t seek gifts or money, just goodwill."
Li Jie was taken aback!
The serious business he ant... turned out to be my dad’s fiftieth birthday?
"Back when we t at the restaurant in H City and had dinner, you ntioned the situation at Jie Rui Company. You said you and your father have been busy but haven’t made money, only providing jobs for retired veterans who struggle to find work at forty. I said you were indeed gaining, just not money, but goodwill! Those security guards are genuine guys who rember kindness, and your family hasn’t treated them poorly, so they feel it too. I joked that if your dad ever needed help, surely people would gather around him!"
