The purpose of Yurong’s call was simply to tell him she wouldn’t be coming back for dinner, and perhaps not even tonight. This was very unusual for Yurong unless she was on a business trip out of town. Li Yan knew she had only left in the afternoon, so he asked where she was. She hesitated a bit before saying she was at the Prince Hotel and that sothing had happened, requiring her presence to handle it.
If she had so social engagent or was there for fun, Li Yan wouldn’t think much of it, but ntioning sothing had happened made him curious. Because the Prince Hotel, located in the outskirts, was an investnt of the Paradise Group. It had a professional hotel managent team, and even if there were major issues, it wouldn’t need the group president to handle them. Besides, from what she said, the matter couldn’t be resolved even tonight.
This made it even more unusual. It was likely an unexpected ergency and very serious, even beyond Yurong’s expectations!
This suspicion persisted until Li Yan finished his dinner, still unable to settle. Since he was free, he decided to drive over to the Prince Hotel to see if Yurong needed help. No problem was certainly best—after all, she was his wife!
Based on his understanding of her over the past few months, Li Yan didn’t believe she was secretly using this as an excuse to et a lover and have fun at the hotel. On the contrary, being the president, even if she wanted to open a room with soone, she wouldn’t pick a hotel owned by her own group—what a loss of face if a subordinate ran into her!
When he arrived near the Prince Hotel, leaving the main street and heading towards the hotel entrance, Li Yan was stopped by two n in civilian clothes.
"The Prince Hotel is temporarily closed for repairs, please co another day!"
Li Yan imdiately saw they weren’t ordinary people, and the excuse was too flimsy. A large hotel, what kind of malfunctions or repairs could be so big that they couldn’t accommodate guests? Frankly, even if soone committed suicide there, it would still be open for business.
Feigning surprise, he asked puzzledly, "You must be mistaken, right? I’m one of the staff inside, rushing to the night shift. How is it I haven’t heard of any malfunctions?"
"Call your superior to inquire, but for now, leave this place!" said the other man in a deep voice.
With a look of bewildernt, Li Yan mumbled as he backed his car away, then parked in a nearby neighborhood and tried calling Yurong on her phone.
By now, he was almost certain sothing had happened at the Prince Hotel, and it wasn’t an internal issue. Although he might not be able to help, he wanted to understand the situation, as the two n in civilian clothes were clearly not ordinary police.
Even though it wasn’t far from the Prince Hotel, Yurong’s phone had no signal and was permanently unable to connect. This made him even more suspicious, and without further probing, he decided to find a way in or at least get closer to see what was happening.
Parking the car, Li Yan walked back.
The Prince Hotel wasn’t situated directly on the main road but had a dedicated path leading to it, perhaps a hundred or two ters in distance, flanked by flowers and trees, creating a pleasant environnt. It was just at the entrance where he was stopped. Now knowing there was an artificial barrier there, he didn’t approach the entrance directly, but carefully circled around to enter the greenery, sneaking cautiously.
The oversight seed to be by the police, perhaps to prevent information from inside from leaking out. Many streetlights were turned off, including the decorative lights on the ground and trees in the landscaped area, which made Li Yan more concealed. Fortunately, there wasn’t anyone patrolling the woods, allowing him to slowly pass through most of the artificial forest area, reaching the back section, then climbing a tree to hide in the darkness and observe the road leading towards the hotel.
Unable to get too close and with the lights off, it was dim and hard to see clearly, but he could make out a rough scene. The only road leading to the hotel was already filled with people and vehicles, completing a blockade of the hotel! Moreover, unlike the plainclothesn at the street entrance, those responsible for the blockade were fully ard riot police!
Seeing a bit but unable to hear anything made it even harder for Li Yan to remain calm. He silently cursed to himself: Damn it! Could it be terrorists are gathering to attack? How is that possible? This is Yun Country. Could there be hostages hidden in the Prince Hotel?
His habit of watching the news while eating made him aware of many things, and upon reflection, he recalled that an international business forum was recently being held in the city, and the well-situated Prince Hotel was presumably the main venue, with most foreign guests likely staying there. Could it have sothing to do with this?
Li Yan was a bit worried about Yurong. While she was adept at managing the company, in a situation like this, she was just a weak woman. Whether out of principle or for the sake of their elders, he couldn’t let anything happen to Yurong.
Unsure of the situation inside, as an ordinary person, if he told the blocking police that his wife was inside, it would certainly not gain him access. The phone wasn’t connecting either, which likely ant signals were being blocked from inside, possibly including the computer network. It seed waiting was the only option.
But just waiting, Li Yan was naturally unwilling. Perhaps bringing the dia in, though the news might end up being censored eventually, it should at least draw away so of the blocking forces to deal with the reporters, providing an opportunity to sneak in.
This thought only flashed briefly as he didn’t actually act on it. Reporting such a thing could result in retribution later. He couldn’t use his own phone; he’d have to go out to find a public phone. Once the reporters really ca, the greenery on both sides might not remain as unattended as now. A sweep would prematurely expose him.
...
After waiting for a while, Li Yan saw a car coming in from the main road. Because the entire stretch was unlit, the car was moving slowly.
This realization made him aware of an opportunity. Even if he couldn’t infiltrate, he could approach the blockade to hear first-hand information. Of course, this was extrely dangerous; being discovered would definitely label him a threat.
Relying on his confidence in his skills and experience, Li Yan scampered down the tree, then crouched and ran quickly to the mid-section of the road. Without the streetlights, this section was sowhat concealed, with lights at the ends near the main road and hotel.
Seeing the car approaching, Li Yan imdiately stopped to observe the surroundings carefully. Remaining fully focused, as the car passed by, he darted out briskly, reaching the back of the car.
Not only did he need to cling to a moving vehicle, but within this short span, he had to get himself beneath the car! Apart from the short ti, it was extrely dangerous; a slight mishap could land him under the wheels.
Clinging to the car, he contorted his body at a ninety-degree angle, tucking his legs under the chassis, using it for leverage. His hands grabbed hold underneath, needing to bring his body vertical in one hundred and eighty degrees, or else, even if his head and feet weren’t touching, his bottom wouldn’t be safe.
Getting closer to the hotel entrance blockade, relying on his arms’ strength, Li Yan accomplished the incredible infiltration, finally managing to find his grip on the chassis and tuck himself under the car just before reaching the blockade.
Once at the entrance blockade, Li Yan could hear a lot of low conversations, and the car he clung to had co to a stop. His arms were now more sore than doing hundreds of push-ups, so he took the chance to drop his butt to the ground, using it as a support, relieving his arm stress to rest for a mont.
Unfortunately, he only had a brief mont. The car didn’t turn off the engine and, after stopping briefly to exchange a few words with the blockade soldiers, continued driving in.
Feeling the heat in his rear, Li Yan quickly inhaled, tightened his abdon, straightened his back, trying to stay as close to the car’s chassis as possible. The area was brightly lit, with many riot police blocking off. If any of them squatted down to tie their shoelaces, they could easily spot him!
However, realizing the car was heading inside offered a chance to slip in, making his risky move worthwhile, as he gritted his teeth and held his arms and body in place.
