Chapter 28: Weekend

My wife and girlfriend went on a date, so I’m free. — This thought made Li Yan feel ridiculous. Although it’s true, few would believe it if he told soone.
Originally, he was supposed to et Zhang Tianyi on Friday night. And during this special ti, there’s no doubt he would ask about this matter. Li Yan was worried that Yurong would bring up the fact that he helped, which was sowhat encouraging. After all, businessn who’ve been in the trade for decades are all old and cunning foxes, and they might suspect him of sothing.
Now that he doesn’t have to go, he feels at ease. He pondered that he’s been too busy these days and hasn’t had ti to accompany anyone else. He considered going to Huang Ying’s place tonight and having her cook.
However, thinking of Huang Ying, if he goes in the evening, she might misunderstand that he plans to stay over, which would be awkward whether he stays or not. So he decided to visit during the day tomorrow instead.
He recalled once when Huang Ying suggested he should et her brother, but he hadn’t had the ti these past two weeks. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he quickly dialed the business departnt.
"Huang Ying, do you have classes tomorrow? How about I co over for lunch?"
Upon hearing Li Yan’s voice, Huang Ying, who had been looking forward to it for a long ti, quickly agreed: "Sure, I’m free at noon. But are you... not busy?"
"Haha, busy? Of course, I’m busy. It’s a new company, and I’ve invested in a movie; it’s my first one, so it can’t fail. But no matter how busy I am, I can’t keep standing you up, right? Besides, I still have to eat, so I might as well go to your place to replenish." Li Yan laughed.
"Oh, okay, then I’ll make chicken soup for you tomorrow!" Huang Ying agreed quietly, relieved.
In fact, when it cos to replenishnt, Li Yan doesn’t lack anything. Aunt Liu originally worked at the Zhang Family, so she had long learned how to prepare various precious ingredients, including so dicinal als. When taking care of the two of them at the villa, Yang Yun, who cared for her daughter and son-in-law, would bring back a bunch of precious ingredients and dicinal materials every ti they dined there, which they’d use to make soup with fresh ingredients. So, although not every day, they often had nourishing soups.
Zhang Yurong couldn’t eat much, so a lot of it went to Li Yan. Perhaps due to frequent nourishnt, he had a lot of energy, and he used to need to go out every week to release it.
But for Huang Ying’s ordinary, even sowhat constrained family, these ingredients were considered quite a treat from childhood. Usually, on her own, if she made a chicken or half a chicken, she couldn’t finish it and thought it wasteful, so she wouldn’t cook it without reason, only doing so when her brother ca back. Now, upon hearing Li Yan casually ntion replenishing, she imdiately thought of making him chicken soup.
Rich chicken soup didn’t particularly interest Li Yan, but understanding Huang Ying’s intentions, he agreed in an expectant tone: "Great, I’m looking forward to it tomorrow. Call your brother to co back too, so you can feel more at ease."
"Okay."
"Are you busy? You’re always busy at this ti; want to apply to have you transferred over here?"
Huang Ying quickly replied, "No need, I’m used to being a bit busy; I’m doing just fine now."
Li Yan thought of Li Jie and asked, "Have you finished your accounting course exams? Got your certificate? A friend’s company needs soone like you. If you’re ready, I can recomnd you!"
"Really? I... I passed." Huang Ying hesitated a bit. Although she took the additional courses to seek a career with a better future, even if she might not excel, it would be better than being a clerk. But her personality made her reluctant to take the first step, preferring to stay in a familiar environnt.
"That’s great. I’ll take you to et her soday; it might be a good opportunity."
"Okay." Hearing this from Li Yan, Huang Ying softly replied.

After hanging up, Li Yan’s phone on the desk rang again.
"Damn, Li, you really are busy?"
Upon hearing the voice, Li Yan imdiately recognized it was Sun Hui from the HR departnt. However, in recent months, he hadn’t had much ti to go drinking with them.
"Why, sothing going on tonight?"
"Hmm! Would you attend if there is? How long have you been detached from the group now? Do you actually have a girlfriend now? Doesn’t seem like it. Or are you just being ambitious?"
"Nonsense, I can basically be considered one of Heaven’s top ten outstanding youths, doesn’t getting ahead sound normal?" Li Yan laughed.
"Now you’re an executive; are you still mingling with us?"
"Pitiful! I still owe you all a drink, don’t I? How about tonight?"
"Heh, you finally rember. Where’s the movie star then?"
"Uh... just consider it boasting. I haven’t even fild this movie yet; how could I afford to invite a movie star?" Li Yan laughed heartily.
"Get lost! Knew you were just bragging, making us look forward for nothing!" Sun Hui joked and continued, "I’ll call you tonight, give you a heads up. Xu Ping finally got together with the girl he admired for a long ti, Juanjuan. Apparently, his confession was successful. Originally, he was supposed to buy us drinks tonight, but now that you’re our manager...?"
"Which Juanjuan?"
"No idea, maybe it’s Yang Lijuan, haha! Anyway, just don’t stand us up again! Or else we’ll have to call you John Woo."
"..." John Woo... Li Yan was left speechless.

Since they were going out for drinks later, Li Yan decided to have dinner with Hai Fu.
Not knowing if Hai Fu was in the office, or if she was, whether anyone else was there, Li Yan decided to text her instead, sending her a ssage: "I’ll wait for you after work, let’s have dinner together."
With not much ti left before the end of the workday, if they were to leave together, they would have to wait until everyone else had left. Moreover, they couldn’t leave the office together but would drive in sequence afterward.
Having mostly completed his tasks, and after joking with Jiang Xueyin, Feng Xiang, Luo Ling, and others, Li Yan waited for the end of the day.
Soon after, Hai Fu replied with a simple text, "Now, rooftop."
Now? Rooftop?
Feigning a quick goodbye, he ntioned he was off for a stroll and would leave when the shift ended soon.
Near the end of the workday, since it was the weekend, everyone was busy finishing up to be able to leave on ti. With nobody in the elevator, he went straight from the eighth floor to the top floor.
