Chapter 49: Not Wanting or Unable

By the ti they returned, it was already midnight. After eating a bowl of noodles and Wen Qianyi taking a bath, it was already early morning. Although there’s no need to go to work tomorrow, it’s not convenient to keep chatting. As before, Wen Qianyi slept in the bedroom, and Li Yan took the sofa.
With the influence of alcohol, a full stomach, and the late hour, Li Yan was filled with sleepiness. But in the darkness, he still sighed a little, recalling last night.
The sa building, alone in a room with a beautiful woman, last night was wild and passionate, whereas tonight was rational and comforting. His purpose for staying here tonight was his concern that Zhang Songyang might be monitoring nearby, but it was also his desire to spend ti in close proximity with Qianyi. Spending two consecutive nights in this building was a first for him. The only downside was, last night he held a beauty and slept in bed, but tonight he held a pillow and slept on the couch.
Not going ho last night, Yurong didn’t ask much, but how would she react to him not returning for two nights? And what about Little Di?
While Li Yan was lost in his thoughts, Wen Qianyi’s voice ca from inside: "Hey...Li Yan, are you asleep?"
"No." He was about to sleep, but being interrupted, he beca more alert. "What is it? Are we talking across the room again?"
Wen Qianyi paused for a mont, then said softly, "No, I wanted to ask if you’re cold with just a blanket?"
"Without taking off my clothes, it’s not too bad." Li Yan feared she would get up to find him another blanket or sothing, and he was too lazy to move.
"But...if your clothes are wrinkled when you leave tomorrow, it would easily arouse suspicion."
"Then I’ll just take them off and cover myself." Li Yan said casually.
Wen Qianyi paused again, then sighed lightly: "Sigh...co in and sleep!"
"What?!" Li Yan couldn’t believe his ears; Qianyi actually invited him in to sleep?
How was that possible? From his acquaintance with Wen Qianyi, he knew her character quite well. Though she appeared passionate, she was extrely calm and rational. Letting him stay overnight was already rare, not to ntion there were objective factors like it being too late. Having him sleep in the sa bed was unimaginable!
"What now? Do I have to invite you?" Wen Qianyi snorted lightly.
"On my way!"
Li Yan quickly got up, tossed the blanket onto the sofa, went toward the bedroom, and reached for the door handle, finding it opened instantly!
He secretly berated himself; Qianyi had left the door open for him! He completely missed the hint and had to be told outright, truly disgraceful!
He quietly closed the door and proceeded inside.
It was his first ti entering Wen Qianyi’s bedroom, what a pity the lights were off, and he couldn’t see what it was like.
"I’m here..."
As he said this, Li Yan pictured scenes from costu dramas where so lord would go to his concubine’s room, rubbing his hands and saying in a lewd way, "Sweetie, I’m here"...which made him feel awkward.
Suddenly, the room was illuminated with a warm orange light, as Wen Qianyi turned on the bedside lamp.
He didn’t expect her to light the room suddenly, which made the situation rational and quite awkward. Li Yan was thankful he wasn’t rubbing his hands with a lewd smile. Watching Wen Qianyi, he stopped his steps, hesitating to move forward.
Wen Qianyi lay on the bed, looking at Li Yan standing there, and said seriously, "I didn’t lock the door because I trust you, not as any hint. You need to understand that."
"I understand." Li Yan was speechless, realizing he misunderstood. However, he never expected to consummate this night with Wen Qianyi; such a thing was an impossible task, so he didn’t feel too disappointed.
"Also, I invited you in because I’m worried you’ll get cold, it’s not a hint of anything else. You need to understand that too."
"I understand, but..."
"But what?"
Li Yan cald down, seeing that Wen Qianyi had already left half the bed for him. He moved to the other side and sat on the bed, then continued, "But caring if I catch a cold is already showing concern for . You can’t say it’s not a hint, just not a sexual hint."
Hearing him speak so bluntly, Wen Qianyi couldn’t help but glare at him, though in a way, it’s good to clear things up instead of leaving them vague. "That’s it."
"Go on, is there anything else to declare?"
"The bed is this big, I’ve already left half for you. It’s not smaller than the sofa, at least. You must be a gentleman, not crossing to my side or touching . Anyway...you must follow the rules." Wen Qianyi didn’t believe he wouldn’t understand this implication, but it was awkward to explain in detail.
Li Yan nodded, then saluted, "Just as Ying Tai said, Shan Bo won’t cross the line. Should we put a bowl of water in the middle?"
"..." Wen Qianyi was exasperated yet amused by his use of the Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai reference. "Alright, go to sleep! No need for the water, but I do have scissors under the pillow, just in case you are tempted to think you’re made of steel..."
Steel!
Li Yan wanted to cry but had no tears...
"What are you doing?"
"Taking my clothes off! You already made the rules clear, so of course, I’m taking my clothes off to sleep."
Wen Qianyi was surprised because he removed his clothes too quickly, in an instant, catching her off guard and leaving herself unprepared, he was already down to his underwear.
