You should have refused, right?”
At the villa entrance, Carson Flores said helplessly to Samantha Tate, “You keep coming up with these ideas, and I can’t keep up.”
Samantha Tate explained, “Just help out this one ti.
You see, my dad is on his side, I can’t get out of it.
If you don’t go, I’ll have to go alone, and you can imagine what might happen then…”
Carson Flores frowned, “It’s one thing after another with no end in sight.
I don’t have that much ti.”
Samantha Tate raised her index finger, making a pitiful face, “Just this one ti, okay?
This trip, we’ll pretend to be a couple, so Ethan gives up.
After that, there won’t be any more trouble, right?”
After a pause, Samantha Tate continued, “Or, I could pay you more.
How about 50,000?”
Carson Flores didn’t respond; he really didn’t want to continue the charade.
Playing husband at ho, now having to pretend to be lovers outside…
She may be beautiful, but it’s all fake, no fun at all!
Seeing that Carson Flores didn’t want to agree, Samantha Tate grabbed his arm and shook it, cooing, “Please, just help out this ti.
It’s the weekend, you’re not doing anything, right?
Think of it as going out for fun, and you don’t even have to pay, plus there’s a beautiful lady to keep you company…”
The weekend?
Suddenly, Carson Flores snapped back to reality.
Right, tomorrow is the weekend, wouldn’t Shirley Miller be resting at ho?
Staying at ho, wouldn’t he have to put on an act for the whole two days?
On weekdays it was manageable, just coming ho from work, having dinner with the old man, and making so small talk, not spending much ti together, but with more contact over the weekend, wouldn’t it be easy to slip up?
If he went camping, couldn’t that reduce their interaction, avoid embarrassnt, and prevent any slipping up?
Considering this, Carson Flores started to waver.
Seeing that Carson Flores was silent, Samantha Tate upped the ante, “How about this, you help out this ti, and I’ll introduce you to a beautiful woman…”
Carson Flores thought for a mont, “Forget about introducing to a beautiful woman.
I’m a poor guy without a house or a car, what would I do, watch her roll her eyes at ?
Forget it, I’ll help you out, and you can owe a favor.”
Samantha Tate asked with confusion, “A favor?
What do you want to do?”
Carson Flores said with a smile, “I haven’t thought of it yet, just keep it in mind.
I’m new here and don’t know my way around.
There will surely be tis I’ll need the help of a local like you.
Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to do anything over the top.
If you think it’s too much, you can refuse.”
Samantha Tate imdiately felt relieved and agreed readily, “Okay, it’s a deal!”
Carson Flores nodded, “See you tomorrow then.”
Samantha Tate asked, “Where do you live?
I’ll drive over to pick you up.”
Carson Flores didn’t want Samantha Tate to know his business and said casually, “No need, just give a place and we can et up there.”
“Okay!”
After leaving the Gilliam Family’s place, Carson Flores returned to the company, only to run into John Roth.
John Roth had been humiliated by Carson Flores previously and held a grudge against him.
Now that he had caught Carson Flores loafing around, he wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip by.
He stood in Carson Flores’s way and scolded loudly, “Carson Flores, you’ve just joined the company and you’re already slacking off, without organization or discipline, and…
such a strong sll of alcohol, you actually skipped work to go drinking?”
“What’s it to you?
See this sign?
Can you read?”
Carson Flores glanced dismissively at John Roth and, without indulging him, pointed to the sign for Sales Team Eight, “This is the sales departnt.
What’s the sales departnt’s job?
To make sales.
Do you think I don’t have to go out and drum up business, entertain clients, and build relationships?
Should I just sit in the office and wait for orders to fall from the sky?
If you’re so keen on monitoring attendance, why don’t you switch to HR?
It’s a waste of your talents here!”
John Roth’s face turned red with anger from Carson Flores’s retort, “You’ve just arrived, what business do you have to run?”
Carson Flores said sarcastically, “So new people don’t need to chase leads?
Aren’t you aware the team leader gave a list of clients?
With limited ti, of course, I need to make the most of it.
You think everyone’s like you?
Spending all day in the office drinking tea and playing with your phone, with sales performance all thanks to brown-nosing?”
Carson Flores’s words were harsh, akin to a slap across John Roth’s face, and the sideways glances of the colleagues behind him felt like thorns in his back, making him as purple-faced as a liver.
John Roth barred Carson Flores’s way, his voice boiling with fury, “Who’s brown-nosing?
Explain yourself!”
Carson Flores responded with a grin, “Oh, my mistake.
That’s not called brown-nosing, that’s called resolutely following the leader’s instructions, wholeheartedly supporting all of the leader’s decisions.
If the leader says go east, never go west.
If the leader says chase a dog, don’t even think about catching a chicken.
Once the leader is happy, doesn’t the performance just co naturally?”
“Pfft!”
A female colleague couldn’t hold back a chuckle.
She quickly covered her mouth and turned away.
Though the other colleagues didn’t laugh out loud, their strained expressions betrayed their amusent.
Carson Flores, what truths are you spouting?
John Roth wasn’t particularly competent, but, he was Sergio Combs’s staunch supporter, effectively a trusted lackey.
Always at Sergio’s beck and call, of course, Sergio took care of him, handing over stable clients as a way to feed him performance, which is why he could “shine in Team Eight, sturdy as a mountain.”
The laughter of the colleagues was like a knife to the heart, making John Roth’s blood pressure shoot up.
His eyes turned red and his fists clenched as he threw a punch at Carson Flores’s face.
