Carson Flores saw Shirley Miller and Derek Eaton off into the airport, handing the suitcase he had been dragging over to Shirley Miller with a smile and a gentle reminder.

Derek Eaton rolled his eyes beside them, “Kid, don’t wait for a call.

Where we’re going, we’re not allowed to use cell phones.

But with this old man here, you don’t need to worry.”

Cell phones are not allowed?

Carson’s curiosity piqued as he asked, “Senior, how long will it be necessary to stay?

Give a ti fra so I can ntally prepare.”

Derek Eaton glanced at Shirley Miller and hesitated before responding, “Let put it this way.

I’m taking her for a good cause.

If she stays for a long ti, that ans she succeeded.

If she fails, she’ll be back soon.

So, if she returns, you can be happy, but if she doesn’t, you should be even happier for her.”

Carson laughed, “There must be a ti fra, right?

After all, I am her husband.

I should keep inford.”

Derek’s gaze beca slightly enigmatic, “If she fails, she’ll be back within ten days.

If she succeeds, it could be as little as two months, or as much as half a year; it’s uncertain.”

Carson nodded, not pressing further, and turned to Shirley, “Don’t worry about your tasks, old man here will take good care of things.”

Shirley hadn’t known how long she would have to stay, but now, hearing Derek say it might be half a year, she suddenly felt panicked.

She and Carson had an agreent of three months.

If she returned within ten days, everything would still be on track, but if she couldn’t co back, that three-month period would be over.

“Grandpa Derek, can I speak to Carson alone for a mont?” she asked.

Derek laughed, “Sure, I’ll wait at the entrance for you.”

Walking ahead, Derek left as Shirley spoke with hesitant sincerity, “We previously had a three-month agreent, and that ti is nearly up.

If I return, let’s not talk about it, but if I can’t co back soon…”

Carson was actually torn inside.

The deadline was approaching, and he was uncertain whether to stay or leave.

Although conflicted, Carson couldn’t just suggest, “Let’s get a divorce before you go,” as Shirley was already at the airport.

Instead, he reassured her, “It’s fine, focus on your work first.

The old man said it himself, the longer you can stay, the better it is.

Two months to half a year isn’t very long; we can talk when you co back.”

Shirley’s eyes brightened slightly.

She was also feeling rather delicate about the whole situation, particularly worried that Carson might be eager to divorce her.

In her heart, Shirley didn’t want the divorce, but she had been the one to propose the three-month tifra initially.

She knew Carson might have soone else he liked, and if she refused to leave, it would an breaking their contract and being dishonest, sothing her pride wouldn’t allow.

Carson offering to discuss things upon her return gave her a way out, and it also relieved her from facing the awkward decision about whether to divorce or not.

Shirley nodded, “Alright, we’ll talk when I’m back.

But as we said before, you do what you want without worrying about .

If it’s about the divorce papers, we can handle them when I return.”

Shirley, feeling sowhat apologetic, reminded him of their agreent, essentially extending the duration of their contract while maintaining its terms of non-interference.

There was no reason for her to breach the agreent and make Carson foolishly wait, was there?

Perhaps Carson’s love interest had already been waiting for the three-month period to end…

As for her relationship with Carson, Shirley couldn’t dwell on it too much.

So paths, once started off wrong, seem easy to correct but are actually incredibly difficult.

She decided to let fate take its course.

Having nearly surrendered herself to Carson in bed the previous day, Shirley was prepared for the natural progression of events.

However, it was unexpectedly interrupted.

If they had been together the previous day, Shirley might have opened up about her feelings and left the decision about their divorce up to Carson.

However, since that line had yet to be crossed, Shirley didn’t feel confident enough to make any demands, nor to go back on her word.

“Okay, we’ll talk when you’re back,” Carson agreed readily, feeling surprisingly relieved inside.

This made Carson reflect deeply, wondering if he was truly unwilling to leave Shirley, perhaps even falling in love with her.

What about Samantha Tate?

No matter, he had promised Samantha that he’d give her an answer once the three months were up.

Regardless of Shirley’s presence, he intended to honor that commitnt and would share the truth with Samantha when he could.

No matter what the future held, whether or not they would continue together, the least he could do was to not deceive.

With that thought, Carson’s mind seed to clear.

Seeing the clarity in Carson’s eyes, Shirley stepped forward, wrapping her arms around him, “Thank you, for going through so much trouble because of .”

Carson gently flicked Shirley’s forehead with his finger, “We’re a married couple, why be so formal…”
