62: Chapter 62: Poisoned by Gu Worm?_1 62: Chapter 62: Poisoned by Gu Worm?_1 “Wah wah…”
The door had just opened when Carson heard the cry of a child, a heart-wrenching shriek.
Inside the room, a child a little over one year old lay on the sofa, crying and writhing, his little face beet-red as if engorged with blood, an abnormal sight.
An older man in his fifties was examining the child, while a beautiful young woman with red eyes—presumably the child’s mother—stood by, watching anxiously.
Leonard Reid sat in a nearby chair, his face cold, his eyes harboring an unexpressed anger.
Upon seeing the two enter, Leonard stood up: “Doctor Ward, Raphael is conducting an examination.
Afterwards, could you please take a look as well?”
Raphael?
Was this older man the renowned physician Raphael Schneider who was at odds with Vincent Ward?
Vincent nodded without a word.
He had co today to repay a favor from many years ago; even if it ant swallowing so pride, he had to endure it.
Carson’s gaze road over the child’s face, body, and hands, and, finally, his attention settled on the child’s arm, his expression growing serious.
This was no small matter!
Who could be so cruel as to harm such a small child like this?
Before long, Raphael straightened up, about to speak, but Leonard interrupted with a wave of his hand: “Let’s not rush, Doctor Ward.
Please conduct your examination.”
Raphael faltered, then chuckled: “Go ahead, Dr.
Ward.
Let’s verify each other’s findings.”
Vincent nodded, approached the sofa, and carefully examined the child, while Carson also took the opportunity to validate his initial assessnt under the guise of assisting.
Leonard pointed to a stack of papers on the desk: “These are the full examination results from the hospital.
Take a look, Doctor Ward.”
Vincent did not hesitate as, although he had already conducted his examination, comparing them with the dical reports could yield a more accurate diagnosis.
After reviewing the reports, however, Vincent’s expression beca puzzled.
Every sign and symptom pointed to the child being ill, extrely uncomfortable, which was why he was howling and thrashing, but the examination report completely overturned his preliminary conclusion.
Because, according to this report, the child was not sick at all!
Seeing that Vincent had put down the report, Leonard finally asked, “Gentlen, tell , what exactly is wrong with my grandson?”
Raphael watched Vincent with a self-assured look, “Would you like to go first, Dr.
Ward?”
After so hesitation, Vincent replied: “I initially thought it must be a case of excessive heat in the blood, but the examination report doesn’t support that…”
Leonard frowned: “And your conclusion?”
After careful consideration, Vincent finally shook his head: “I can’t determine the exact condition.
If I were to prescribe dication, I would prescribe sothing to reduce the heat in the blood, but I doubt it would be of much use.”
Leonard’s eyes showed clear disappointnt as he looked at Raphael: “And you, Doctor Schneider?”
Seeing Vincent at a loss, Raphael’s deanor reflected smug satisfaction: “Dr.
Ward, your dical skills seem to be declining.
I agree with your assessnt of excessive heat in the blood, but a dicine to reduce that heat would not only be sowhat ineffective, it would certainly be of no use.”
Vincent’s face showed embarrassnt as he retorted: “Do you have a solution?”
Raphael boasted confidently: “Of course I have a solution.
Using the Spiral Needle Technique in combination with the Technique of Blood to release the excess heat in the blood, I am sure that will solve the issue.”
Leonard looked relieved: “It can be treated?”
Raphael exuded self-assurance: “If I say it can be treated, then naturally, it can.”
Leonard was ecstatic: “Good, Dr.
Schneider, if you completely cure my grandson, ten million in gratitude!”
Raphael’s eyes instantly lit up: “Thank you, Mr.
Flores!”
Leonard’s smile faded as he spoke earnestly: “Doctor Schneider, I do not understand your needle technique or its principles, but this is my only grandson.
Cure him, and you will be handsoly rewarded.
But if you cannot cure him and you deceive , Leonard, you know what the outco will be.”
Raphael’s face paled; he knew well who Leonard was, a man who had risen from humble beginnings dredging river sand, accumulating wealth with hands tainted with who knows how much blood.
His words were more than just threats.
After hesitating briefly, compelled by the lure of ten million, Raphael bit the bullet: “Mr.
Flores, I am confident.”
Leonard relaxed slightly: “Very well, start the treatnt.
Whatever you need, just ask.”
Turning to Vincent, Leonard said calmly: “Doctor Ward, I apologize for the trouble.
Zhang, please show Doctor Ward out.”
Vincent sighed, ready to leave when suddenly, Carson tugged at his sleeve.
Turning to look, Vincent ca to a realization: How could he have forgotten about Carson?
In the midst of his examination and reviewing the reports, he had been caught in a cycle of deduction and self-doubt.
Raphael’s mockery left him filled with dejection, making him forget that he hadn’t co unprepared.
“Wait a mont.”
Vincent spoke to his secretary and moved a few steps aside with Carson, consulting in a low voice: “I’m sorry, Mr.
Flores, I was distracted with my analysis.
About the child…
Do you have any thoughts?”
Carson replied softly: “This child isn’t sick, he’s been poisoned by ‘gu’.”
Vincent’s eyes widened in shock, his voice inadvertently rising: “Poisoned by ‘gu’?”
The attention of everyone in the room turned toward them sharply.
Realizing his gaffe, Vincent quickly apologized: “Sorry, sorry.”
Leonard’s gaze traveled past Vincent and rested directly on Carson, his voice deep and solemn: “Young man, are you saying my grandson…
has been poisoned by ‘gu’?”
