Since ancient tis, holidays have always been an occasion for reciprocal gift exchanges.
A few days in advance, the Yang Family started receiving gifts, and naturally, Yang Ruxin also needed to prepare return gifts.
This year’s gifts were two boxes of homade mooncakes, a basket of pears from her personal space, a basket of grapes, two carp from her space, along with a few packets of dicinal tea.
Although compared to the cloth and such that others gave, these might seem a bit shabby at first glance, but everyone who has tasted her offerings knows that the flavors of her gifts are unmatched by anything you can buy, even the flour for the mooncakes is made from rice milled from her space.
Actually, she has also used the grapes and pears from her space to brew wine, but she started too late, and the ti has been a bit short, plus she hasn’t had the chance to go in and filter it, so she’ll have to wait until the New Year to present it as New Year’s gifts for everyone to taste.
As for the gifts given to those in the village working for the Yang Family, those were different: each family received a bag of white flour, a bag of rice, a strip of wild boar at, a carp, and for a few elder families, an additional bag of peanuts.
The whole village was brimming with joy, everyone lined up to receive their gifts, grinning broadly as they headed ho.
However, to Yang Ruxin’s surprise, even the main residences of the Wei Family and the Shen Family sent her family holiday gifts this ti.
While it was sowhat understandable since Wei Bingyi personally ca during her coming-of-age ceremony, thus it made so sense for them to send presents during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Shen Family, however, was perplexing.
The Shen Family had no connections with her, one might even say they had beco adversaries, so why, after all this ti, are they suddenly trying to make ands? What is up with the Shen Family?
"Miss, should we return them?" Du Chengxiu asked, seeing Yang Ruxin frowning silently.
Yang Ruxin suddenly smiled, "They gave us gifts, sending them back wouldn’t be very gracious, would it? Besides, the Shen Family has significant influence in the court..."
Du Chengxiu glanced at Yang Ruxin, "And for return gifts..."
"A bag of cornal, a basket of sweet potatoes, a basket of radishes, but don’t touch what’s in the kitchen, go to the cellar and dig out the most peculiar-looking ones..." Yang Ruxin gave a sly smile, "I’m a village girl, naturally I’ll reply with items that match my identity and are down-to-earth..." She wasn’t willing to part with the radishes from her space.
Du Chengxiu’s mouth twitched slightly, and he hurried off to make the preparations. As for how the Shen Family would react upon seeing such return gifts, that was not within Yang Ruxin’s scope of concern.
Nonetheless, she cheerfully saw the Shen Family’s butler off personally as he left.
"Whose family is this, to make you personally co out to see them off?" Liang Xiaoyu happened to co by to chat and couldn’t help but tease.
"The Shen Family," Yang Ruxin smiled, "How co you have ti to co out? Not working on your dowry?"
"Oh, everyone needs a break now and then," Xiaoyu blushed slightly.
Yang Ruxin laughed, just about to turn around and head inside when Xiaoyu held her back and nodded towards the outside, "Xinxin, look."
Yang Ruxin looked over and saw Guan Qingyue standing there with a conflicted expression. When she noticed Yang Ruxin looking over, the gloom in her eyes hadn’t dissipated yet, and she hurriedly turned around and ran.
Yang Ruxin smiled indifferently. She had no desire to get entangled with the Guan Family anymore.
"I heard her family has arranged a marriage for her," Xiaoyu remarked, pursing her lips, "It’s with a family from Peach Blossom Town... If it goes through, she’ll probably get married in early spring next year..."
