“Really?” Du Juan thought back to the rainy night attack on their way back from the border, her brow furrowed.
“A shady inn?” Du Yunpeng didn’t know the backstory.

Du Juan briefly recounted their previous encounter.

Du Juan dismounted and knocked on the door.
“Who is it?” Soon, footsteps could be heard from the yard, and then the gate creaked open. A middle-aged woman looked them over, “You are…”

The woman looked them over again, and then her eyes fell on Xiaobai.

Xiaobai tily let out a few soft grunts, keeping his mouth shut without baring his fangs.

Soon, a man ca out of the house, glancing at them, apparently having heard their conversation, “Dear guests, it’s not a problem to stay, but we really don’t have space, you see, only three rooms plus a kitchen. If you don’t mind, I’ll take you to my brother’s place for the night… My brother’s house is just behind, his wife passed away, so it’s just him and his daughter living there, they have spare rooms…”

The woman didn’t dare say more, and walked off sullenly.
