The shopkeeper looked at Qi Jingyi.
"What a pity." Qi Jingyi only shrugged. "Anyway, remember this in the future: whenever that Miss Fen es, you slaughter her hard. Double the price on everything, and whatever extra you make, consider it your bonus." As he spoke, he even patted the shopkeeper on the shoulder.
The shopkeeper’s mouth twitched, but he hurriedly agreed. Inwardly, however, he grumbled—just how deep was this grudge? Still, he actually started looking forward to that young miss ing again.
Of course, later Fen Kelan really did e once more, but she only ordered four dishes and a soup, and the final bill came to one hundred taels of Silver. It nearly made her explode with rage. She argued a few words, but the shopkeeper just said one thing: "Our food and drink are just this expensive. If you don’t have money, don’t e!"
So Miss Fen was once again so angry that she ran off in tears.
After those two times, she finally realized that Qi Jingyi not only didn’t like her, he even seemed to dislike her quite a bit. Though unwilling, there was nothing she could do, so in the end she could only look for a chance to have her maternal grandfather step in, hoping it might help.
But after hearing his granddaughter’s request, Wang Yaze directly shook his head and refused. He knew the inside story about Prince Yi, so he found his granddaughter’s thoughts utterly baffling. Yet he couldn’t reveal the matter of Prince Yi, and could only tell his granddaughter to give up—that this would not work.
Fen Kelan, however, thought her grandfather simply didn’t feel sorry for her. In a fit of anger she ran off on her own, planning to return to the Fen Family in Jiangnan. On the road, though, she ran into some other matters, which ended up changing her life. But that is another story for later.
As for Qi Jingyi’s rotten peach blossom, it bloomed briefly and then withered away again, and almost no one even knew about it. The days went on as usual.
After the Little New Year, time suddenly seemed to speed up, and in the blink of an eye it was New Year’s Eve.
That day was the last court session of the year. After court was dismissed, the Emperor once again held a banquet in the palace to entertain the officials, and then announced the holiday. This break was fairly long; court wouldn’t be held again until the seventh day of the new year.
Starting from the night of New Year’s Eve, there would be a night market and lantern festival every evening, and people could pretty much revel all night long.
However, on New Year’s Eve the Gu Family didn’t go out. Instead, they gathered together to eat New Year’s Eve dinner and stay up to see in the year.
On the morning of the first day of the new year, after dressing up, Yang Ruxin went into the palace with Gu Qingheng to offer New Year’s greetings.
Once inside the palace, the two split up. Gu Qingheng went to Chengqian Palace to pay his respects to the Emperor, while Yang Ruxin went to Kangshou Palace to pay her respects to the Empress Dowager.
"Madam Ruyi." But before she even reached Kangshou Palace, she ran into a familiar face.
"Happy New Year, Your Highness." Yang Ruxin hurriedly saluted the imperial concubine.
"Good, and a happy new year to you too." The imperial concubine Shufei smiled very kindly. "I was just going to pay my respects to the Empress Dowager as well; let’s go together."
Yang Ruxin nodded slightly and didn’t refuse—she couldn’t refuse anyway.
"Xinxin, do you still have any of that Medicine Pill from before?" After they had walked for a while, Shufei finally spoke up.
"That Medicine Pill is very hard to make, because the ingredients are too rare." Yang Ruxin’s brows furrowed a little.
"I know." Shufei nodded at once. "It’s just that this relative of mine is hoping to get another pill, just in case."
"Well, this..."
"Xinxin, I know that pill is hard to e by, so how about I pay you more?" Shufei was afraid Yang Ruxin would refuse. "Would fifteen thousand taels work?"
"Make it twenty thousand." Yang Ruxin sighed. "Otherwise I really won’t sell it. I don’t even want to prepare it anymore."
