Because Mishael was injured, like it or not we had to walk slowly and I was still searching for Alrich's whereabouts.
I crouched and she frowned, then I tapped my shoulder lightly and it seed she understood but she refused.
"Co on, get on my back." After that I tapped my shoulder again because by walking the ti would feel slower and we would waste too much ti.
"Co on. I'll carry you." I invited her but she remained silent and hesitantly she crouched and climbed onto my back, then I carried her.
When Michelle was already on my back we decided to continue walking and look for a way out. A loud thunder roared and my necklace pulsed with a red glow and Michelle told what was happening.
"It seems your necklace is giving us a clue where we should go to get out of here," she said and I lowered my head and looked at my glowing necklace.
"Maybe… I don't know either," I said to Michelle and she nodded while staring at my necklace.
"Where did that necklace co from?" Michelle asked again and I rembered an old woman who gave the necklace. It was sothing entrusted to when I was abandoned by my parents. At first I did not want to wear it when I grew up, but grandmother Wilona told to wear it, maybe this way my parents could recognize the necklace that belonged to before I was abandoned.
"This is from my grandmother." I did not want to tell her everything but Michelle kept looking at with doubt.
"Are you sure it's only from your grandmother?" she asked again and I nodded.
"I thought soone gave it to you so you could beco…" she said but I imdiately stopped walking.
"Why did you stop?" Mishael asked confused.
"So who do you think gave this necklace?" I asked and she laughed softly.
"Maybe your parents or your sibling." I continued walking forward without responding to Michelle.
My necklace was still glowing red and I kept walking straight ahead, but this ti the forest felt quieter and the wind was stronger than before.
"Do you feel the wind is stronger than before?" I only cleared my throat in response.
"There… in front… it looks like soone." My eyes looked ahead. I saw no one there, so why did Mishael point and say there was soone?
"Where?" I asked because I could not see anyone around.
She moved forward but I still could not see anything.
"Where is the person?" I asked while narrowing my eyes to make sure, but I still could not see anyone or hear any sound or footsteps.
"Let's get closer," Michelle said but I remained silent because I saw no one.
"Can you really see it?" I asked her but she clicked her tongue softly.
"Xanders, you really don't see it?" I shook my head because I truly saw no one.
"Put down first." she said and I obeyed. She walked slowly while holding her stomach. I followed her and then she suddenly looked shocked because the old man she saw was gone.
"Where is he?" I asked but she looked confused.
"You really didn't see him, Xanders?" I shook my head and she pointed to a large tree.
"I saw him here."
"You really saw him?" I asked and she nodded confidently, but I saw nothing except the tree.
"Maybe you're hallucinating because of the poison." I still thought it was the effect of poison spreading in her body.
"No, Xanders. I really saw him. I can tell the difference between hallucination and reality. He was here, an old man, facing away from us." she tried to explain but I shook my head, not believing her.
"Let's leave before sothing happens," I said but she stayed silent, still staring at the tree.
Reluctantly she followed . She did not want to carry her again so I did not force her and we walked slowly while I watched her condition.
Several tis Michelle looked back at the tree but still found nothing.
"Enough, Mishael. Let's go. You didn't see any footprints either, right?" I asked because I had checked the ground many tis and found no footprints.
The day grew darker and the light was completely covered by the moon.
My necklace still glowed red, drawing attention, and several tis I felt like sothing was following us. I looked at Mishael who was still injured. What if sothing happened to her?
My necklace suddenly stopped glowing and it seed Mishael noticed so I stopped.
In front of us was a deep ravine.
"Do we go through this ravine or jump down?" Michelle asked confused.
I took a branch and threw it down. I waited five minutes until it reached the bottom.
"It's better if I go down first to check," I said and she stayed silent.
"You… you're serious?" she said in disbelief.
"We have to make sure what's down there," I said and she looked back.
"Let's find a strong root so I can go down first." She nodded weakly.
We found strong roots and tied them together, then I tied them to a large tree near the edge.
"Do you trust ?" I asked before going down and she nodded without hesitation.
"Why?" I asked.
"I don't know… I just trust you."
I slowly went down. It was colder down there, even through my clothes it felt piercing.
My necklace pulsed brighter.
"Mishael… co down!" I shouted but there was no answer.
"Mishael! Are you still up there?" I shouted again but nothing.
I panicked.
"Mishael… answer !" Still nothing.
I began climbing back up.
Then I heard her voice.
"Xanders… are you still there?"
I froze.
That was her voice.
I climbed faster.
"Is that you, Xanders?" she said.
"Yes, it's !" I shouted.
She ca down slowly and when she reached she scolded .
"Didn't you hear calling you?" she asked.
I shook my head.
From just a few ters apart… we could not hear each other.
Sothing was wrong with this ravine.
A ravine… that swallowed sound.
"Didn't you hear my voice either?" I asked, curious, and she nodded.
"I didn't even know you were calling. I ca down after you and shouted loudly," she said with intensity, and I fell silent.
"This is not an ordinary ravine. Our voices are being trapped in this mist, perhaps." Mishael fell silent as well, as if realizing what was happening with this ravine.
"Yes… you're right. This is not just a normal ravine." We both fell silent for a mont.
