As the first light of dawn broke, subtle rays shone through the thin clouds, quietly illuminating the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team’s office, which was still shrouded in a dim and serene ambiance.

The hands of the wall clock moved like stealthy walkers, silently edging towards the eight o’clock position.

The criminal investigation team mbers, however, were already bustling around the office like agile shuttles.

For them, fighting through consecutive battles was as commonplace as daily bread and butter.

Sotis they even had to endure long, continuous shifts of 72 hours or 96 hours, leaving their bodies utterly exhausted, weariness clinging to them like a malignant tumor.

Yet, due to the deep-seated commitnt to their duty, no one uttered a word of complaint.

Last night, Li Jian, the team leader, noticed the bloodshot eyes of his team mbers, with care and sympathy evident, he specially arranged for a few hours of rest.

He clearly understood that for the tough battle today, everyone needed to be well-rested, otherwise how could they have the energy to confront the cris lurking in the shadows.

At eight-thirty in the morning, the criminal investigation team’s eting room was like a battlefield about to be ignited by flas, the atmosphere was oppressively heavy, making it hard to breathe.

The officers filed in one after another, their steps hurried yet orderly, in the blink of an eye filling every seat, with their eyes like piercing arrows uniformly directed towards the podium.

The three directors of the supervisory group sat upright with a composure as steady as ancient pine trees, their expressions stern and frost-like.

Their gazes swept over the piles of case files on the table like a cold, fierce wind.

The thick files, haphazardly stacked, each page soaked with the team mbers’ sweat and effort.

Mr. Ma sat to one side, his gaze profound with the experience of the ages, quickly scanning the crowd below.

The criminal investigation team mbers all appeared haggard, with stubble stubbornly sprouting like wild grass, and their hair slightly disheveled, akin to withered grass ravaged by a wild wind.

Though the fla of determination still blazed brightly in their eyes, the extre exhaustion weighed upon them like a sun-blocking cloud, impossible to hide.

Once everyone quietly took their seats, Mr. Ma lightly cleared his throat, breaking the silence.

"Comrades, settle down! Let’s begin the eting."

"Today, the leaders of the special investigation supervisory group have made the arduous journey to learn about the latest developnts in our Jiangcheng detectives’ efforts in solving the series of homicides and cold cases."

"This is both a sign of high regard for our work and a rare opportunity for growth and learning, so everyone must be fully attentive."

With that, he slightly turned toward the three directors beside him, his gaze holding a humble inquiry and genuine respect, resembling a student earnestly consulting a teacher.

The three directors readily understood, gently nodding in response. Receiving this acknowledgnt, Mr. Ma continued, "Next, I’ll hand over the ti to Mr. Li from the criminal investigation team."

"I ask him to report on the case handling situation."

Hearing his na, Li Jian sprang to his feet as if triggered by a spring.

He snapped his feet together, producing a crisp collision sound, and quickly raised his right hand in a textbook-perfect salute.

"Three directors, Mr. Ma, there’s a situation that needs to be reported to the leaders first."

He paused slightly, a hint of tension fleeting through his eyes like a shooting star in the dark night, then he took a deep breath, as if swallowing the tension, regaining a calm and composed deanor.

"Yesterday, through the concerted efforts of the entire team, we made a significant discovery."

"This is a serial massacre; the perpetrator is definitely not a first-ti offender."

"The 418 case is just the tip of the iceberg."

His words were like a heavy bomb, instantly exploding on the stage.

The three leaders’ expressions changed dramatically, eyes filled with astonishnt, as if hearing an incredible tale.

They quickly exchanged glances, their brows subconsciously knitting slightly.

The brief mont of surprise seed to question the authenticity of the news, yet also to marvel at the case’s complexity, akin to facing an unsolvable mystery.

However, they did not imdiately reprimand; years of leadership experience taught them to listen calmly at such tis, like a lighthouse standing firm amidst a storm.

Li Jian captured the leaders’ subtle reactions, took a deep breath as if absorbing infinite courage.

"After collective discussion, we’ve decided to establish a special task force."

"For the position of the team leader, we recomnd Jiang An."

Saying so, he turned to Jiang An, his gaze full of entrusted responsibility and unreserved affirmation, as if bestowing a heavy burden upon him.

"Jiang An, the deputy team leader, is young and talented, has repeatedly excelled in case-solving analysis. Having him report to the leaders is most suitable."

Jiang An remained in his seat, but upon hearing his na, imdiately stood up, saluting sharply and vigorously.

Wearing a neat and crisp police uniform, his badge glead under the lights like the brightest star in the night sky, setting off his young yet composed face, invigorating his spirit like a rising sun.

The three directors had long heard of Jiang An, having co across stories of his legendary case-solving feats in private exchanges.

Mr. Ma nodded slightly, his gaze showing approval, but as the head of the bureau, he quietly reminded from a procedural standpoint.

"Mr. Li, for such significant matters in the future, rember to first consult with the upper-level disciplinary inspection supervisory group."

"After all, in solving homicides, supervision is crucial."

"While forming a special task force is customary, the choice of leader should still be reported through procedures to show respect."

His tone was gentle, yet carried an undeniable authority, like a dignified elder earnestly imparting guidance.
