Instantly, the atmosphere in the yard froze.

Officer Zhang Kun walked forward with a serious expression.

His face stern as Judge Bao, he said in a deep voice, "I know the deceased was your lover."

"Under normal circumstances, you would be considered part of the victim’s family."

Zhang Kun paused, his Adam’s apple moving slightly, "However, we cannot rule out that you are a suspect in the cri."

"? I’m a suspect?"

The man lunged forward violently and was stopped by a police officer beside him.

He waved his hands excitedly, the black veins on his neck bulging like twisted earthworms.

"How is that possible!"

"How could I have killed my own wife?"

His voice carried a sob, full of despair and grievance.

"My wife suffered so much by being with , and she gave two children..."

The man choked up, rubbing his face with his rough palms, muddy tears seeping through his fingers.

"She never enjoyed a day of happiness with , I couldn’t love her more, how could I harm her?"

"Whether you did or not is not sothing you can just refute with words!"

Zhang Kun raised his voice, his gaze sharp as an eagle beneath his police cap.

"We will find out the truth through ticulous investigation."

He turned his head to look behind him, "These are the leaders from the municipal criminal investigation team."

As he spoke, Zhang Kun specifically pointed to the tall man in the middle, "This is Jiang An, the deputy captain of the criminal investigation unit."

"They are all seasoned experts in criminal investigations."

Then, Zhang Kun took a half step forward and patted the man’s trembling shoulder.

His tone softened slightly, "If you are not the killer, we will definitely prove your innocence."

"But if you did make a mistake, I advise you to confess early and seek leniency."

He paused, his gaze becoming gentle, "I’ve been the director here for over ten years, people in the district trust , these are heartfelt words."

After speaking, Zhang Kun exchanged a glance with Jiang An.

Understanding this, Jiang An stepped forward slowly.

He looked the man in front up and down—a pair of coarse work pants stained with cent, fingers thick and deford, calloused knuckles, and unhealed scrapes at the base of his thumb, all signs of long-term manual labor.

At this mont, the man’s face was filled with panic, large beads of sweat rolling down his sunken cheeks, gathering into drops at his chin.

Jiang An was just about to speak when he caught movent from the living room out of the corner of his eye.

Two children were peering through the glass door, the little girl clutching a faded doll, the little boy biting his nails, their innocent faces full of unease.

Jiang An’s heart tightened, he raised his hand and gently patted the man’s tense shoulder, saying in a deep voice, "Let’s go, talk to us at the station."

The man stomped his feet in frustration, glanced back at the two children in the living room.

He nodded helplessly, wiping his coarse hand on his pants.

Ten minutes later, the group drove to the police station’s interrogation room.

Considering the proximity principle, they didn’t go to the criminal investigation team, but conducted the interrogation at the nearest police station.

In the interrogation room, Jiang An and Wan were in charge of the questioning.

Wan picked up a pen and began to record, "Na? Gender? Age? Where do you live?"

Upon hearing this, the man stood up from the chair excitedly.

"Officer! I really am innocent!"

"How could I have killed my wife?"

Wan replied impatiently, "Let repeat that again."

"Na? Gender? Age? Where do you live?"

The man looked helplessly at the two officers across from him and sat down in frustration.

"Wang Jun, male, 43 years old, working in the developnt zone of Jiangcheng City, currently living in Shanshui Village."

"Do you know why we called you in?"

"No idea!"

"I ca back this ti mainly because I received a notice that my wife was killed."

"I don’t understand why you brought here."

"Please recall, where were you last night?"

"Last night?... Last night I was at the construction site, I just returned from there today."

"What construction site?"

"Jiangtai Real Estate Company."

Wan asked while recording.

Seated beside, Jiang An constantly observed Wang Jun’s deanor.

In Jiang An’s opinion, the greatest skill in interrogation wasn’t about how to ask, but about keen observation.

The interviewee’s mannerisms could be key in determining whether they are lying.

Then, Wan asked, "How is the relationship between you and your lover?"

"Pretty good!"

"I’ve been working away from ho for years, my wife takes care of the two kids."

"Even though we are separated for long periods, we still make calls and video calls."

Just then, Jiang An’s phone rang.

He took it out and saw that the caller ID was Mr. Fu.

Jiang An imdiately took his phone and walked out.

Since Mr. Fu was calling at this mont, there must be crucial information.

He opened the door and stepped outside the interrogation room, answering the call, "Hello! Mr. Fu."

"Mr. Jiang, we’ve had significant breakthroughs on this end."

"Go on."

"We interviewed so of the deceased Wang Cuilan’s neighbors, and they all indicated that Wang Cuilan had lifestyle issues."

"She had an affair with a man, Chen Guan, from the east end of the village."

"Currently, we are looking for this man to verify the situation."

"Thank you, Mr. Fu!"

"Haha, Mr. Jiang, it’s my duty!"

Then, Mr. Fu asked, "How is it going on your side?"

On the phone, Jiang An said, "We’ve already brought her husband in."

"Currently, we’ve identified the primary scene—it was at the deceased Wang Cuilan’s ho."

Upon hearing this, Mr. Fu was taken aback.

Imdiately, drawing from his extensive experience in criminal investigation, he analyzed, "You’re right."
