Chapter 677: Chapter 627: The Key

“Here, this is the key!” Liu Hun was holding a key, took Yang Xinrui’s hand and stuffed the key into her palm.

“What is this supposed to an?” Yang Xinrui asked, even though she was quite tempted by the car before her.

“It ans nothing else. If you don’t want to admire you, having this car will enable you to avoid the paparazzi more easily,” Liu Hun said to Yang Xinrui with a smile, but in the end, he couldn’t help but tell the truth, “Your motorcycle was damaged in the accident; you need to drive to and from work, don’t you? Don’t worry, I won’t let the paparazzi disturb your life.”

After speaking, Liu Hun walked over to Wang Lazi, who was opening a car door, and as he walked, he left a ssage for Yang Xinrui, “Think it over and co find at the Imperial City Headquarters!”

Watching this annoying and arrogant man leave, Yang Xinrui felt an unexpected and inexplicable sense of loss; she didn’t know why she had accepted the sports car from this man, nor why she hadn’t thrown the car keys in his face and told him to get lost.

Maybe… she really had started to like him… Yang Xinrui shook her head fiercely, trying to cast these thoughts from her mind, and imdiately drove away from Le Bai Theatre.

Returning ho, Yang Xinrui felt like her life had roller-coastered through a gamut of changes in just one day: first insulted by a female star, then encountering the man she loathed the most, and finally… warming up to him.

Yang Xinrui heaved a sigh, unwittingly walked over to the mirror, and suddenly froze.

“Is this… ?” In disbelief, Yang Xinrui turned her body, and saw the reflection in the mirror turning too, which convinced her that the woman in the mirror was indeed herself.

A simple yet elegant evening dress, a pair of graceful, NOT vulgar high heels, and a head of seemingly casual but carefully managed hair—she was completely transford.

“Did he make change?” Yang Xinrui asked herself, bewildered, as Liu Hun’s self-satisfied, unruly face suddenly ca to mind. Suddenly, her body started to feel a stir.

Yang Xinrui was surprised by her own thoughts, yet she couldn’t bring herself to let go of this feeling…

Yang Xinrui curled up on her side, feeling exhausted but also relaxed from the release of tension, and the blurred image of a person in her tearful eyes gradually beca clear.

“Bastard… Liu Hun… I’ve fallen for you…”

The resounding success of Imperial City Entertainnt’s new business model not only brought in a handso inco for Liu Hun but also secured Imperial City Entertainnt’s dominant position in Hong Kong’s entertainnt industry. Under Imperial City Entertainnt’s lead, Hong Kong’s film and television industry began to boom and rapidly advance.

“So… our revenue in the film industry has already greatly surpassed that in the fields of music and dia,” Jiang Fengqin said, holding the latest quarterly financial report from Imperial City Entertainnt.

Liu Hun took the report, examined it, and then shook his head, “It’s not very good.”

“Not very good?” Jiang Fengqin asked, puzzled. She thought that Imperial City Entertainnt was unmatched in Hong Kong, so how could Liu Hun be dissatisfied?

“Yes! Such developnt is too lopsided. I want comprehensive expansion in film, music, and dia,” Liu Hun told Jiang Fengqin, “I want an empire standing tall over the Eastern Pearl! Not just a film company!”

“Then… Brother Liu, please give your orders, and Fengqin will do her utmost,” Jiang Fengqin said to Liu Hun, flirting.

Liu Hun thought for a mont and said to Jiang Fengqin, “You go down first and have discussions with the managers of the various departnts to see what good ideas they have.”

“Mm…” Jiang Fengqin nodded her head. She wanted to have an intimate mont with Liu Hun, but it seed he wasn’t in the mood, so she had to give up that notion.

“Ding ding ding… ding ding ding…”

Just as Jiang Fengqin left, Liu Hun’s phone rang, “Hello! Who is it?”

“Brother Liu, it’s , Zhong Xiao,” ca the voice from the other end of the phone.

“Oh! What’s happening?” Liu Hun imdiately sat up and asked, very interested in the situation on Zhong Xiao’s end.

“Senior Inspector Yang has been frequently visiting the Nandun Hospital lately, seeming to often visit soone. Do you want to check it out?” Zhong Xiao said to Liu Hun. Having worked with Liu Hun for several years, he thoroughly understood Liu Hun’s way of doing things; it would be troubleso if he recklessly found out everything there is to know, particularly the things Liu Hun did not want him to know. Thus, as Liu Hun’s right-hand man, Zhong Xiao always knew his place.

“Wait for at Hongji Tea House, and we’ll go together after I get there,” Liu Hun said and hung up the phone. He was now very concerned about Yang Xinrui, perhaps because the things you can’t have always seem the best.

After arriving at Hongji Tea House, Liu Hun and Zhong Xiao hurried to Nandun Hospital. On the way, Zhong Xiao told Liu Hun about his tracking investigation over the past few days.

“Brother Liu, Inspector Yang’s living situation is quite dire,” Zhong Xiao began.

“What do you an?” Liu Hun asked. He thought that a Senior Inspector would be among the upper echelon of society, who, even with a sick family mber, should be able to afford their care.

“First of all, Inspector Yang is very clean in her work. During the British rule of Hong Kong, she never received any promotion or significant utilization. After the handover, the police departnt eliminated a number of pro-British senior officials, giving Inspector Yang an opportunity to rise through the ranks,” Zhong Xiao explained to Liu Hun.

Liu Hun knew all about the purging of the police departnt and other departnts, having learned the full story from Hong Wei. This was also the handiwork of several secret agencies under the General Staff back in the day.

“Actually, Inspector Yang is quite liked by her subordinates, but she’s too upright and honest. She often stands up for her juniors and confronts her superiors, and she’s even taken a bullet for her subordinates before. But such a person is not favored by the higher-ups and, of course, doesn’t rake in any money,” Zhong Xiao further narrated Yang Xinrui’s situation to Liu Hun, “Now, Inspector Yang lives in a rented apartnt. I took the liberty of going there with the landlord. The conditions are even worse than our place in Yongxing County. Since you didn’t instruct otherwise, I just paid the landlord to cover a few months of Inspector Yang’s back rent.”

“Hmm!” Liu Hun nodded, not expecting Yang Xinrui to be in much the sa boat as Li Hongxia. Li Hongxia, at least, had a rich second-generation boyfriend, Lin Jun, while Yang Xinrui had no one to rely on. Thinking of this, Liu Hun couldn’t help but ask, “Did you check out her past romances?”

“Yes, I was just about to ntion that,” Zhong Xiao replied, and continued, “Inspector Yang had many suitors in the past, but for so unknown reason, she rejected them all, including heirs to corporate empires and high officials’ sons. There was also her superior, Senior Inspector Liang Hongcai, but he was rejected too. The landlord said Liang went to look for her several tis when Inspector Yang was transferred to the traffic police departnt, but he too was turned away.”

“I see,” Liu Hun nodded, then suddenly rembered sothing else and asked, “Did you find out if she had any experiences that may have made her biased against Mainland people?”

“It’s unclear, but there are so clues,” Zhong Xiao said.

“What do you an?” Liu Hun inquired.

“This cos from her landlord. Apparently, she used to frequent a Chinese dicine store run by Mainlanders. She visited for quite so ti but then stopped going there. So, I’m guessing it might have sothing to do with that,” Zhong Xiao shared his deduction with Liu Hun.

“Quacks!” Liu Hun said to Zhong Xiao, rolling down the car window, “We’ll find out once we’re at the hospital.”

Five minutes later, Wang Laizi parked his Maserati in the Nandun Hospital parking lot, and Liu Hun and Zhong Xiao took the elevator to the hospital’s reception.

A young nurse was standing at the front desk. She smiled at the two n and asked, “How may I assist you?”

“I want to know how many patients with the surna Yang you have here,” Zhong Xiao asked the nurse.

The nurse smiled back and said, “I’m sorry, we cannot disclose patients’ information. It is against hospital policy.”

“Would this make it easier for you?” Zhong Xiao handed the nurse an envelope.

The nurse discreetly opened the envelope and almost popped her eyes out. She then promptly and beamingly said, “I’ll check for you right away.”

It took the nurse no more than two minutes to tell Zhong Xiao, “There are thirty-one patients with the surna Yang.”

Zhong Xiao found himself in a quandary and then had an idea. He asked, “Do you know Inspector Yang Xinrui?”

“Oh! Yes, I know her! So it’s her you’re looking for,” the nurse replied imdiately, then started to prattle excitedly, “I once saw her at the Golden Statue Awards,” she whispered, and then covered her mouth with her hands in shock as her eyes widened upon recognizing the man behind Zhong Xiao. She was astounded that she hadn’t recognized Liu Hun, the chairman of Imperial City Entertainnt who had dazzled everyone that night at the event.

“Don’t be too surprised. Tell us everything you know,” Zhong Xiao prompted the nurse.

“Yes, yes!” the nurse uttered, taking another glance at Liu Hun and then said, “Inspector Yang’s sister has been staying here, but… but she has had outstanding fees for a very long ti…” The nurse checked the computer before continuing, “It’s a total of 795,800 yuan. The previous hospital director, having had so connection with Inspector Yang’s late parents, had allowed the debt to build up. But when the old director died last month, the new director took over and imdiately started to clear debts. They pressed Inspector Yang to pay up, and when they heard that she had been transferred to the traffic police division as a traffic officer, they beca even more insistent and stopped Yang Zihuan’s dication.”

“What is her illness, and which room is she in?” Liu Hun couldn’t restrain himself from stepping forward and asking.

“Leukemia, but… she was taken away this morning,” replied the nurse.

“Taken away? Did Inspector Yang personally co for her?” Liu Hun asked quickly.
