Chapter 402
"Help you with what?" Zhang Yanchu said with intense irritation.
He thought to himself that his own future was still uncertain, so how could he possibly have the energy to look after his sister?
"Brother, think about it. If I marry Prince An, with Prince An's help in your official career..." Zhang Zifu imagined that if she married Prince An, wouldn't her older brother be able to do as he pleased in the capital from then on?
"Are you sure?" Zhang Yanchu looked at his sister. If she could really marry Prince An, it would indeed be a good way out.
However, judging by Prince An's deanor just now, it didn't look like he had any interest in his sister.
As for Zhang Zifu, Zhang Yanchu didn't think Prince An would take a fancy to her either.
But Zhang Yanchu was certainly tempted by the grand picture his sister had painted for him.
"Brother, we are natives of the capital after all. Could it be that we would lose to that outsider rchant's daughter next door?" Zhang Zifu looked in the direction of the house next door with a face full of disdain.
She thought to herself that Li Zhiwei was just from so small place, while she was a lady who grew up in the capital. How could she be outshone by her?
The Li Family
Li Tianyou was glaring and blowing his beard at Xu Heming.
"What business does His Highness Prince An have coming to my Li family?" Li Tianyou was furious at the thought of this brat secretly going to the Emperor to set the wedding date.
Was he so afraid that I wouldn't agree?
And he even purposely notified him just over twenty days in advance.
At this thought, Li Tianyou wanted to give Xu Heming a good thrashing.
"Father-in-law, I know you are not satisfied with this wedding date." Seeing Li Tianyou's expression, Xu Heming knew he was unhappy.
"If you know I'm dissatisfied, why are you still here?" Li Tianyou snorted softly, not hiding his displeasure at all.
"I have co to apologize to you, father-in-law! Father-in-law, please tell , what must I do to satisfy you?" Xu Heming sighed softly, lowering his stance completely.
"Really? You'll agree to whatever demand I make?" Li Tianyou asked, looking at Xu Heming with suspicion.
"As long as it is within my power, I will definitely not refuse," Xu Heming said firmly.
"In that case, then co to my Li family as a live-in son-in-law!" Li Tianyou blurted out without even thinking.
After he said it, Li Tianyou himself froze. He knew this demand was a bit unreasonable.
"If father-in-law doesn't mind, it's not entirely impossible for ," Xu Heming said, after a brief mont of surprise.
Then, he readily agreed.
"Husband, what nonsense are you spouting?" Lady Yao, who was standing to the side, lightly patted Li Tianyou's sleeve. She thought to herself that only her husband would dare to say such a thing.
"I'm not spouting nonsense, I just can't bear to part with my daughter," Li Tianyou grumbled.
"He is a prince. What does our family have?" Lady Yao said in exasperation. She worried that if her husband spoke like this, once her daughter went to Prince An's estate, The Old Princess would hold a grudge against her. Wouldn't it be their own daughter who suffered in the end?
"Our family has a daughter!" Li Tianyou retorted indignantly.
He reasoned in his heart that Prince An's estate might have a noble title, but that had nothing to do with his daughter.
Besides, no matter how good the things outside were, how could they compare to his own daughter?
Didn't his daughter say before that he could co to the Li family as a live-in son-in-law?
Why couldn't he?
"Do you think your daughter is a piece of gold everyone wants?" Although Lady Yao also thought her daughter was wonderful, she wasn't foolish enough to believe her daughter was better than a royal title.
"Father-in-law, mother-in-law, if you two don't mind, I can also bring Zhiwei to live permanently in the Li household in the future," Xu Heming offered, watching the two elders whispering to each other.
After all, Xu Heming didn't think there was anything wrong with living at the Li residence.
"That won't do!" Li Tianyou thought that if Xu Heming ca and brought a whole entourage with him, he would have to feed them all. No matter how he looked at it, he would be at a disadvantage.
"Father-in-law, what must I do for you to feel at ease marrying Zhiwei to ?" Xu Heming asked with utter sincerity.
Li Tianyou kept his head down, looking thoroughly displeased.
"Father—" Upon hearing that Xu Heming had arrived, Li Zhiwei hurried over.
But as soon as she walked through the door, she saw Li Tianyou sitting there looking dejected.
Li Zhiwei looked at Xu Heming in confusion.
Xu Heming also didn't know what he had done wrong.
After all, he truly hadn't done anything.
"Father, what's wrong?" Li Zhiwei asked, looking at Li Tianyou tentatively.
"Daughter, ignore your father. He just can't bear to see you get married." Lady Yao sighed at this point. They had a tough fate, having only given birth to this one child, Li Zhiwei.
And yet, they had to suffer the pain of marrying off a daughter twice.
It was truly unfair to their daughter.
"Father, Prince An's estate is only two streets away from us. When you miss , I can just co back, right?" Li Zhiwei actually hated to leave her parents too, but this was a marriage bestowed by the Emperor. It wasn't an engagent they could dissolve just by saying no.
"Yes, whenever father-in-law misses Zhiwei, I will bring her back." Xu Heming felt a bit nervous at this mont; it was true that he was the decisive and ruthless Prince An.
However, at this mont, he was also worried that his future father-in-law would be unwilling to marry his daughter to him.
"What, didn't you just say you wanted to co to my house as a live-in son-in-law?" Li Tianyou looked at Xu Heming, dissatisfied once again. The man had just said he was willing to marry into their family, but he changed his tune in the blink of an eye.
Sure enough, n's mouths were deceitful ghosts, and the one being tricked was this old man.
"Did you really say that?" Li Zhiwei looked at Xu Heming in shock.
She could not fathom how a dignified prince would be willing to marry into her family as a live-in son-in-law.
Was he crazy?
"If father-in-law is willing, it is not impossible. However, father-in-law seems to disagree," Xu Heming glanced at Li Tianyou, then looked at Li Zhiwei with a sowhat aggrieved expression as he tattled on him.
"Nonsense! When did I say I was unwilling?" Li Tianyou clutched his chest, feeling that sons-in-law were truly too infuriating.
"Then father-in-law, why don't you make preparations? On the sixth day of next month, I will marry into your Li family?" Xu Heming asked, looking at the exasperated Li Tianyou.
"You... you..." Li Tianyou was beyond annoyed.
He was caught in a trap; he could neither accept the offer nor reject it.
If he actually dared to let his daughter marry this man into the house, wouldn't this fellow just anger him every single day?
Thinking of this, Li Tianyou was absolutely unwilling.
"That would cost a lot of silver, wouldn't it?" Lady Yao, however, looked at Xu Heming and gulped before asking.
She calculated in her mind that if they included the wealth they had hidden away, it wasn't completely out of the question.
After all, how could they ever be as at ease with their daughter marrying into soone else's household as they would be keeping her in their own?
"Mother, this is a marriage bestowed by His Majesty!" Li Zhiwei looked at her parents, feeling utterly helpless.
How could such a matter be treated as a child's ga?
"We were just thinking about it." Lady Yao sighed in her heart. So it still wouldn't work?
"Then how about this... when we have children, we let you raise them?" Xu Heming thought for a mont before asking cautiously.
