The text was from Jason and it read, “Ace, I just learnt from a friend of mine that MSS has taken over the case of Su Han’s disappearance. The information is classified as A-level confidential. I have a feeling that something has gone wrong!”
“Taken over by MSS?” Lu Jia’er mumbled at the screen, “That is to say, Xu Lei was not telling me the truth.”
Of course, Xu Lei was bound by his line of duty. On the other hand, Lu Jia’er’s worry was no less serious. So, she called Xu Lei again.
Soon, the call was put through. “Professor Lu?”
“Yes, Deputy Xu, I just learnt something. I hope you can tell me the truth!” Lu Jia’er insisted.
Xu Lei appeared to have already had a sense of what she was referring to. “Please, do tell.” he said.
Like before, Lu Jia’er did not hide her intention. She came to the point straight away. “MSS has taken of the case of Su Han’s disappearance, right?”
For all this time, Xu Lei had always had this impression of Lu Jia’er, that she was out of the ordinary. She was an expert in psychology and her grasp of specialized knowledge was superb. She could probably really be able to read people’s minds. He had always felt something was fishy when he viewed the video when Lu Jia’er was being strangled by Yu Fang in the detention house back when Lu Jia’er was helping out on the case of the twin murderers.
Xu Lei could never put a finger on what was fishy. Yet, with his accurate perception, he had this exact feeling on his mind.
“No!” Xu Lei denied it.
“Deputy Xu, I hope you can tell me the truth!” Lu Jia’er stressed.
“Professor Lu, you should know me as a person to a certain extent! Our personal friendship aside, as a criminal police officer, how can I lie to you with regard to such a case?” Xu Lei answered, calmly.
“If you put it that way, Deputy Xu, then there is no personal friendship between us whatsoever!” Lu Jia’er sounded quite disappointed.
Xu Lei could hear that. He hurried to say, “Professor Lu, please don’t say that!”
Lu Jia’er went on, “For me, Su Han is my own little sister. I cannot look on with folded arms when she is missing. I believe that you have your share of troubles. However, I want to know if MSS has found Su Han, or if they are also clueless, just like you said.”
Xu Lei was put in a tough spot. The case was transferred away secretly all of a sudden. He was no less curious than anyone else. Besides, Su Han, the involved, was in a close relationship with Lu Jia’er.
At the moment, for Lu Jia’er, he was both curious and worried to some extent.
A few seconds of silence later, Xu Lei said, “I want to know your source of this information!”
“The source is not the point!” Lu Jia’er said. “Deputy Xu, can be you be honest with me?”
“Professor Lu, personally, I will never lie to you. That being said, you are well-aware that as a criminal police officer, I have my due share of responsibilities to shoulder. I am sorry but I cannot let you know the true state of affairs! I apologize!” Xu Lei expressed his apology.
Eventually, Lu Jia’er failed to find out information she aspired to know. She did understand Xu Lei. After all, everyone had their own position.
“I see. Deputy Xu, what I did must have put you in a pickle. Anyways, can I ask for a favor from you?” Lu Jia’er asked.
While hesitating, Xu Lei gave his consent eventually, “Go ahead!”
“I know that you are bound by confidentiality agreement. But I do want to beg you. If you can meet Su Han, tell her for me that I will always be her big sister.” As she uttered those words, Lu Jia’er could not help but begin to choke with tears, “If you can meet her, for my sake since I have served as your psychiatrist, ensure her safety for me.”
