“How did Colin know I was here? Does he know where Ian is?” As they dashed on, Lu Jia’er asked, lowering her voice.
Jin Xiangdong, who was walking in front of her, acted relaxed but the expressions in his eyes indicated that he was highly alerted, just like a special agent in a movie. “I followed my sister to figure out where you were. As for Ian, I don’t know where he is being kept.”
Him mentioning his sister caused Lu Jia’er’s heart to ache. She speculated that Jin Xiangdong was currently unaware of the truth behind his origins.
“Ace, we must find Ian!” Lu Jia’er insisted.
“We don’t have enough time!” Jin Xiangdong answered calmly.
But Lu Jia’er was unwilling to leave Ian behind. “I know that we are short on time. But we must find Ian and save him!” She stressed.
However, Jin Xiangdong disagreed. “Let’s go out first and give the matter further thought!” As he said those words, he saw two staff in white coats walking toward them.
Jin Xiangdong lowered his head. When they brushed past Lu Jia’er, one of them said all of a sudden, “Sean!”
Jin Xiangdong stopped. Lu Jia’er felt her heart in her throat. Just now, when Jin Xiangdong helped her get changed in the lab, she noticed the nametag on his coat—Sean Lee.
Lu Jia’er looked at Jin Xiangdong through the corners of her eyes. They municated via eye contact. Then, she said to him quickly in a low voice, “Prof. Bob Brown on the left and Prof. Princip on the right!”
When they were going past, Lu Jia’er, while keeping her head lowered, remembered the names on their nametags from when they had passed by.
Jin Xiangdong turned around quickly. “Prof. Brown, Prof. Princip!”
“Sean, do you have a moment?” A white man in his fifties asked Jin Xiangdong.
Jin Xiangdong paused for a second but answered immediately afterward. “Prof. Brown, what is the matter?”
“I want to discuss with you about the paper you published the day before yesterday!” Prof. Brown said.
Jin Xiangdong raised his hand and looked at the time. “Prof. Brown, I have an experiment I need to analyze in a moment. Can we talk in the afternoon?”
Prof. Brown gave Jin Xiangdong a look before he nodded. “Sure.”
Prof. Brown gave Jin Xiangdong another careful glance. Jin Xiangdong smiled at the former before those two turned around and left.
Finally, the situation was handled. Jin Xiangdong and Lu Jia’er turned around as well. The two walked ahead at the same pace.
“Do you think he suspects anything?” Jin Xiangdong asked in a low voice.
“He just thought your voice was strange today. But he is a racist, and always thinks that all Asians are like clowns. He just hides it very well and people cannot tell.” Lu Jia’er told Jin Xiangdong the information she gathered when she heard Prof. Brown’s inner voice.
Jin Xiangdong did not care if Prof. Brown was a racist or not. He just wanted to get Lu Jia’er out of here as soon as possible.
Before they could go much further, they heard an ear-piercing siren.
Jin Xiangdong and Lu Jia’er looked at each other. They were filled with nervousness and plicated feelings.
“Hurry!” Jin Xiangdong said as he hastened his steps.
They reached a corner. Jin Xiangdong halted and stopped Lu Jia’er.
Not far to the right, there was a screening stand. Some armed security guards were stationed there. Their hurried and strong footsteps generated a sound that would make people feel flustered.
“Ace, this way!” Lu Jia’er reacted fast. She led Jin Xiangdong to another direction.
The siren sounded in the long corridor. The security guards were getting closer. Lu Jia’er and Jin Xiangdong were being increasingly nervous.
