If you can’t give the answers I need, I’ll kill you myself and make your assistant the new head of the operation.” he growled.

The old man, choking and gasping, nodded frantically to deliver a swift and silent answer.

Satisfied, the City Lord dropped him, and the researcher collapsed, coughing violently, then swiftly hurried out of the room the next second without even looking back.

Alone once more, the City Lord resud pacing until Alistair stepped in just as the head researcher bolted from the room.

“Father, we seriously need to incinerate those bodies before they create an abomination we can’t control,” Alistair said, prompting the City Lord to raise a brow, turn to face his son, and ask,

“The accumulation of that many zombie corpses in one place has proven more harmful than helpful, they may be dead, but the virus is definitely creating sothing even in its dormant state, So researchers have made a mistake or two while tampering with or improperly cutting into the corpses these past day, which lead to them getting infected, and we had to dispose of them by beheading.”

“ You must realise that this research team was sent from the capital and our own clan, but in just one and half day they have already been reduced by fifty percent, that kind of loss won’t sit well with the higher-ups.

There’s also sothing I believe you need to see, sothing that might change your mind,” Alistair added, motioning for his father to follow him.

The City Lord felt genuinely surprised, as it was rare for his son to speak out so strongly, so he chose to do the one thing that felt right, follow him.

A few minutes later, they entered the chamber where all the mutated zombie corpses were stored and experinted on, for the first ti since their arrival at City Hall, the City Lord witnessed the horrifying consequences of gathering hundreds of dormant zombie viruses in one place.

The room’s walls had begun to grow infected, mangled fleshy tissue that clung to the walls like a parasitic mold.

So patches pulsed and glowed, with one large bulge visibly beating like a heart, after containing that many dormant virus in one place, it had forced it to adapt and it was changing.

“If we’re not careful, we’ll end up creating a new type of zombie, one this world has never seen, and under our watch,” Alistair explained.

The City Lord fell silent for a long mont before he finally spoke.

“Two more days.

If they still can’t give answers, I’ll shut the operation down myself.” the mont he said this the head researcher sighed in relief

“I’m guessing that’s Alec Gordons,” Alistair replied, prompting his father to nod.

“If he’s allowed to grow any further, he’ll beco soone like their Patriarch, only bolstering the Gordons’ strength even more, that clan feels like an illegitimate child of Lady Luck, filled with endless talent,” the City Lord grumbled, stroking his beard.

“Well, if you’re so concerned about their growing strength, we should really attend the auction, and since these corpses might be useless in two days, why not use them as a bargaining chip instead of wasting them by burning?” Alistair suggested.

But his father shook his head.

“I have a strong feeling their increasing strength is tied to these corpses, the very sa ones that nearly sparked a clash between us, whatever they’re doing with them, I want to uncover it.

And I refuse to do anything that might contribute to their rise.

If we get no results, they’ll be incinerated.

Alistair could only shake his head in silence, as he was unable to sway his father’s decision, he followed him out, hoping they wouldn’t co to regret this decision.
