"Good afternoon, viewers. I'm your match comntator, Roy Wood. On this bright and sunny afternoon, I'm here at the Liberty Stadium to bring you live coverage of Swansea's ho match against Brighton.
"As for Swansea's true strength — whether they are stronger than the side that reached the promotion play-offs last season, or whether, as many in the dia pessimistically believe, they will achieve nothing — it is still too early for us to draw a conclusion.
"Today's key fixture will be a major challenge for Swansea. Brighton are widely regarded as the strongest contenders for the league title. They arrive here in fierce form. Whether Swansea can defend their dignity at ho remains to be seen.
"Swansea start today in a 4-4-2.
"Goalkeeper: Glendower.
"Defenders: Gabbidon, Brunel, Friedrich, Tobias Rau.
"Midfielders: Balitsch, Nilsson, Pedretti, Grosso.
"Forwards: Ibrahimović, Charisteas.
"Brighton also start in a 4-4-2.
"Goalkeeper: Ben Roberts.
"Defenders: Watson, Cullip, Butters, Hinshelwood.
"Midfielders: Pierce, Carpenter, Harnard, Harding.
"Forwards: Hart, Knight.
"The match is about to begin. Swansea will kick off first."
With the referee's whistle, the match began.
Ibrahimović played the ball to Charisteas, who passed it back.
Nilsson controlled the ball in midfield, waited for the wide midfielder to move forward, then sent it out to the flank.
Grosso carried it down the left into a dangerous area before delivering a forty-five-degree cross.
The delivery was not especially good. Brighton defender Cullip headed it clear.
Brighton launched an attack, and Swansea's midfield line quickly dropped back.
Balitsch, Grosso, along with Nilsson and Pedretti, soon ford a compact defensive block with the back line.
Brighton also found it difficult to advance their attack. They could pass freely before reaching the danger zone, but once they tried to push the ball into the forward line, it beca extrely difficult.
Their players did not have outstanding dribbling ability, and their passing combinations were not particularly delicate either.
Once Swansea set up a dense defensive structure in the middle and defensive thirds, Brighton could only resort to old-fashioned long balls.
In truth, both teams were playing direct football.
Swansea's approach was even simpler. Their wide midfielders, Grosso and Balitsch, would send in crosses, while Ibrahimović and Charisteas — both tall n over 1.9 ters — searched for chances inside the box.
The ball flew back and forth through the air. Neither side created any major danger in the first twenty minutes.
For today's match, Lynn had placed Cromwell, Jas Cook, and Villa — all of whom had battled hard in London four days earlier — on the bench.
Lynn did not expect that simply fielding two tall strikers and crossing from the wings would be enough to beat Brighton, especially when Brighton's overall teamwork was more polished, and they were more efficient in both attack and defense.
Brighton organized their attacks smoothly on the outside before sending crosses in from the flanks, while Swansea's crowded defense continuously destroyed their attacks inside the penalty area.
In the 23rd minute, Brunel headed Harding's cross from the wing clear, only for Carpenter to reach the dropping ball before Pedretti and head it back into the penalty area.
The consecutive second-phase attack threw Swansea's defense into brief disorder. Forward Knight seized the opportunity, beat the offside line, and headed toward goal from inside the box.
Fortunately, he was a little too close to goal. Glendower rushed out and pald the ball away with one hand!
The Swansea supporters, still feeling a lingering fear, applauded and cheered for Glendower.
"This match shows Swansea using a very simple approach. They want to play crosses from wide areas and let Ibrahimović and Charisteas, two center-forwards with a height advantage, look for chances inside the box. But so far, the effect has not been very good!
"It is strange. When we look at Ibrahimović's height, we naturally expect him to possess excellent heading ability, but he rarely shows much in the air. Charisteas is clearly sharper than him when it cos to sensing headed opportunities.
"Brighton have tried to play so central penetration and combine passes between the middle and the wings, but Swansea's compact defense has broken them up. Right now, Swansea's defending has begun to show traces of Italian-style defending — airtight, leaving the opponent with no option but to look for chances through long balls and crosses.
"It would not be an exaggeration to say that so far, this match has been an aerial bombardnt duel between the two sides!"
Lynn did not like dull, long-ball football either, but there was no other choice.
The team's current level had not yet reached the point where they could advance through intricate passing combinations with ease.
If they could, they would not have lost the previous match.
Brighton manager Micky Adams saw Swansea setting up like an iron barrel and imdiately burned with anger.
Although he did not believe Swansea's attack could truly shake Brighton's defense, he wanted even more to beat Swansea away from ho.
He wanted to make that arrogant Chinese man lose all face!
Unable to hold himself back, he stood on the touchline and shouted at his players, urging them to intensify their attack.
"Harder! Put pressure on them! Pressure!"
Adams's words could be heard clearly within twenty ters. His deep, rough voice reached Lynn's ears, and Lynn turned his head to glance at him.
He did not know whether this young Seagulls manager had been blinded by anger, but it truly made no sense.
Clearly, Adams had been the one who first humiliated Lynn with disrespect, yet now he was the one losing his temper!
In the 34th minute, sothing unexpected happened on the pitch.
Balitsch carried the ball forward down the right and sent in a cross, but it struck Brighton full-back Hinshelwood.
The ball changed direction after the deflection and flew toward the central area in front of the penalty box.
Ibrahimović happened to have dropped back.
He stretched out his foot, trying to hook the ball into the penalty area. His right foot did indeed catch it and flick it behind him, but he failed to control the weight properly.
It was a little too strong, and the direction was not quite right either.
The ball flew diagonally into the box, accidentally landing in front of Charisteas.
The Greek forward reacted decisively and charged forward.
As Butters turned, his balance was unstable, allowing Charisteas to seize the better position first.
When Butters turned to chase the ball, all he saw was Charisteas's back blocking him completely from the play.
Just as he prepared to go in with a sliding tackle, Charisteas, without caring about anything else, lifted his foot and hamred a shot!
Brighton goalkeeper Roberts was completely unprepared for it.
The ball flew straight into the top-left corner!
After scoring, Charisteas roared, then turned and sprinted toward the corner flag.
The Swansea fans in the stands imdiately erupted into deafening cheers!
Adams was dumbfounded. Behind him, the Swansea supporters laughed and mocked him to the extre.
"Adams, you can go eat shit now! Brighton are definitely losing!"
"Wooo! Swansea have opened the scoring! Balitsch's cross struck Hinshelwood and deflected toward the edge of the box. Ibrahimović produced a brilliant back-to-goal hook to send the ball into the area, and Charisteas followed up with a fierce strike into Brighton's net!
"Swansea have actually taken the lead!
"Could Lynn's claim that Brighton are definitely losing really co true?
"The Swansea fans here are roaring in celebration for Charisteas. This Greek forward has scored his first goal since joining Swansea! Congratulations to him!"
Lynn truly had not expected Swansea to score so suddenly.
It was simply a gift from heaven!
He nodded while applauding. Whether it was coincidence or accident, the team had scored. There was nothing better than that.
Adams was so furious that his blood seed to surge to his head. He shouted harshly at his players, demanding that they pull themselves together, run harder, and launch attacks with even greater effort.
After falling behind, the Brighton players attacked like madn.
They continuously used long balls and crosses to bombard Swansea's goal. Glendower perford a little better than before, but he was also beginning to feel increasing pressure.
In the 43rd minute, striker Hart's shot from outside the penalty area struck Friedrich's leg and deflected out over the byline, giving Brighton a corner.
Harding ran over to take it.
The corner dropped into the penalty area, where Brighton defensive midfielder Harnard rose in the crowd and smashed a header into Swansea's net!
Brighton equalized before the end of the first half!
Lynn sighed in disappointnt.
If they could have maintained their lead until half-ti, the second half would have been easier to play.
Unfortunately, they still failed to hold on.
Adams suddenly looked proud and relieved.
He waved his fist and roared several tis, then lifted his head and glanced toward Lynn.
He firmly believed that as long as his team showed their true ability and played normally, they would definitely be able to conquer the Liberty Stadium!
...
The first half ended.
Lynn walked into the players' tunnel with his expression unchanged.
During half-ti, Lynn encouraged the players. A 1-1 scoreline was not enough to make him panic.
The teams changed ends for the second half.
Swansea continued with their compact defense and long-ball approach, while Brighton kept launching fierce attacks at them.
However, Brighton failed to score again. Having endured the opponent's attacking pressure since the start of the match, Swansea's back line grew more and more stable.
Pedretti gradually beca increasingly comfortable in the defensive midfield position, while Brunel and Friedrich also developed a certain understanding in their defensive coordination.
With the full-backs focusing more on defense as well, Brighton's attacks in the second half made plenty of noise but produced little real danger.
They failed to achieve better results.
Instead, after Swansea found their footing, their own attacks began to beco smoother.
The only issue was the lack of variation up front. With two tall center-forwards, their finishing thods seed sowhat one-dinsional.
By the 68th minute, the match remained deadlocked.
At that mont, Lynn signaled to assistant coach Emlyn Hughes.
Substitution!
Hughes called over the three ward-up players and arranged for them to co on.
When Adams saw Swansea preparing to make changes, he looked carefully, then dismissed them without concern.
Three brats under twenty years old.
Nothing to fear!
"Swansea are making substitutions. Manager Lynn is actually using all three of his changes at once!
"Cromwell cos on for Nilsson. Jas Cook replaces Balitsch. Villa cos on for goalscorer Charisteas!
"These are all like-for-like changes!"
After completing the substitutions, Lynn crouched down by the touchline, his calm gaze fixed on the pitch.
In truth, his heart was gradually becoming tense.
These three substitutions were his trump card!
Whether the Swans could swallow the Seagulls would depend on the final twenty minutes!
