Yahiko leaned back in his chair with a contented sigh, patting his slightly rounded stomach. "The teacher's cooking is the best. I could eat it forever and never get tired. It feels just like before!"

"Mhm," Konan agreed, a genuine, serene smile gracing her features for the first ti in weeks. With Ragnar's return, the constant knot of worry in her chest had loosened, replaced by a simple, profound happiness that shone in her eyes like sunlight breaking through the Rain Country's perpetual clouds.

Nagato remained quiet, picking at the last of his stew. The emotional whiplash was severe. Just hours ago, he'd been locked in a terrifying battle with this man, a Konoha ninja who embodied everything he feared and hated. Yet here he was, eating the man's food, in the ho of his only friends who trusted him implicitly. The stew was undeniably delicious—the richest, most comforting al he'd had since… since his mother's cooking. The mory brought an unexpected sting to his eyes, and he ate another mouthful to hide it.

Ragnar watched the scene. The simple, unguarded joy on their faces, the fragile peace in this battered hut… it was a stark contrast to the blood-soaked fields and political machinations that defined his usual world. In this age of endless conflict, such monts were rare and precious.

He reached over, filled Nagato's bowl again, and handed it to him. "Here. Eat."

Nagato flinched, startled by the simple kindness. He took the bowl, its warmth seeping into his hands. The weight felt different now—not just of food, but of a complicated, unexpected offer. The hard shell of his hostility cracked further, though a core of wariness remained.

"Teacher," Konan ventured, her voice soft but carrying her deepest concern. "How long… will you stay this ti?"

Yahiko leaned forward, his earlier bravado gone, replaced by naked worry. "Yeah, Teacher! Don't leave again so soon!"

"A few days," Ragnar stated. "The stalemate is breaking. The three great villages are preparing for a full-scale engagent. When it cos, the fighting will engulf everything."

"Why?" Nagato's voice cut through, sharper than before. He looked directly at Ragnar, his visible Rinnegan eye burning with a confusion that bordered on anger. "Why does there have to be war? Why can't people just… live together? In peace?"

He was asking the ninja who had fought him. The ninja who represented the system that killed his parents. The sa ninja who had saved his friends and now shared a al with him. The contradictions were maddening.

"Perhaps one day they can," Ragnar replied, eting his gaze evenly. "But not today. Not in this era."

He looked at the three of them—the war orphans, the victims of the very system he fought for. "Survival in this world is not a given. There are countless others with far less than you have right now."

"I know," Konan said quietly, her smile tinged with sadness. "Before we t you, Teacher, we were always hungry. Always running, always scared of being caught or hurt. Now… I'm just grateful."

"That's why!" Yahiko declared, jumping to his feet, his fist clenched and raised toward the smoke-stained ceiling. "I'm going to change it! I'll build a new country! A place with no war, no hunger, where everyone is kind and helps each other! A real peace!"

His voice rang with absolute, youthful conviction. Nagato stared at him, captivated. The raw idealism, the sheer audacity of the dream… it was a light in the overwhelming darkness of his own experience. If such a world were possible… he would follow Yahiko anywhere to see it.

"A noble goal," Ragnar acknowledged. "But ideals require strength to protect. I will not always be here. I cannot save you every ti danger finds you. Your future struggles will be your own. Your survival will depend on your own power."

"I understand!" Yahiko nodded fiercely, the responsibility settling on his young shoulders without dimming his resolve.

After cleaning up, night fell. In a rare break from the Rain Country's norm, the clouds parted, revealing a sky dusted with faint, shimring stars. They brought stools outside the hut, a small island of light in the vast, damp dark, and sat gazing upward.

"Even the stars ca out to welco the teacher back!" Yahiko exclaid, pointing dramatically at the sky.

"I doubt I hold that much sway with the heavens," Ragnar said, a faint, almost imperceptible hint of amusent in his tone. For the first ti in a long while, he felt a deep, internal stillness. The relentless drive for power, the calculus of battle, it all receded, leaving only the cool night air and the quiet company.

"Teacher, this is for you." Konan, her face flushed, held out a ticulously folded paper crane, its wings delicate and precise.

"Thank you," Ragnar said, taking it. He examined the intricate folds, a testant to her exquisite chakra control and patient spirit.

"Hey! I want one too, Konan!" Yahiko pretended to pout.

"No," Konan refused, but a soft giggle escaped her.

Yahiko feigned dejection for a mont, then his eyes, always scheming, darted between Nagato and Ragnar. A sly grin spread across his face. He scooted his stool closer to Ragnar.

"Teacher… you accepted Konan and as students. So…" He gestured grandly toward Nagato. "…why not make it three? Accept Nagato too! Then we can all be your students together!"

Nagato stiffened, completely taken aback. He looked at Ragnar, then at his friends' expectant faces.

"That's a wonderful idea," Konan agreed, smiling warmly at Nagato.

"I have no objection," Ragnar said, his voice calm. "But the choice is Nagato's. He must agree."

He'd already accepted two children marked by tragedy and potential. Adding the Rinnegan's bearer was a monuntal variable. He thought of Jiraiya, who, in another tiline, would take these three as his students, inheriting a legacy of hope and heartbreak. Would I then inherit Jiraiya's fate? To be killed by a student lost to darkness?

The thought was clinical, not fearful. Jiraiya was not him. Jiraiya was bound by sentint, by a teacher's love. Ragnar was bound by survival, by the accumulation of power. Jiraiya might have been defeated by fate. Ragnar intended to break it.

And besides, the future was a shifting fog. Who knew what paths would be walked?

"Nagato! Say yes!" Yahiko urged, practically vibrating with excitent.

"I… I…" Nagato stamred, overwheld. But as he looked into Yahiko's eager eyes and Konan's gentle, encouraging smile, the loneliness and fear that had defined his life since his parents' death t a counterforce—the simple, powerful offer of belonging.

He took a deep breath, his expression firming. He stood up, faced Ragnar, and gave a deep, formal bow.

"Teacher."

"Mm." A single nod of acknowledgnt. The circle was complete.

"Alright, everyone, sit," Ragnar said, his voice taking on a different, storytelling tone. "I'll tell you a story."

Instantly, the three children settled on their stools, their postures attentive, their eyes wide with anticipation, all earlier tensions forgotten in the promise of a tale.

"Long, long ago," he began, his gaze distant, as if looking through the starry veil into the past, "there was no ninja world. No villages, no hidden techniques. The world was a place of deeper chaos, darker and more disordered than even the wars of today."

"But then, a man erged. He ended the chaos. He founded the way of the shinobi, bringing a fragile order to the world. He created the art of ninjutsu, gifting humanity the power to perform miracles, to change their reality."

"He beca the progenitor of everything we know. The ancestor of this ninja world. Later generations… ca to call him the Sage of the Six Paths."
