Now reading: Chapter 407: The City of Nivara from The Hidden Extra: The Lazy Prince Refuses to Ascend The Throne, a Fantasy novel by SatouKazumaDesu.

The capital city of Nivara was located about sixty kiloters from the port where Nolan, Sharon, Cassiopeia, and Draco’s ship had docked.

The city was quite large, though it still paled in comparison to Solvaria.

Nivara had a sturdy wall that surrounded the entire city. The wall served as protection from possible enemy attacks in the future.

The walls stood fifty ters high, making Nolan feel small when he stood near them.

"Is this the city of Nivara?" Nolan muttered in awe.

He had once read about a famous city covered in snow. That city was Nivara.

In the book, Nivara was described as a place untouched by sunlight, always covered in snow.

It was also said to be prosperous, despite being located in a region of eternal snowfall.

Now, seeing it with his own eyes, Nolan had to admit the city was incredibly beautiful—just as the book had described.

"Beautiful, isn’t it?" Cassiopeia chuckled softly. "Nivara is known as the City of Eternal Snow. At night, the houses here will shine brightly. Just wait and see."

Nolan only nodded slowly without saying anything.

Their horse-drawn carriage continued toward the heart of the city.

People passed by, going about their business. The city looked lively, as if no one was aware of the serious problem with the white dragon.

"I’m sure you’re surprised to see how peaceful this city is, right?" Halmar smiled slightly as he explained. "The king deliberately hid the issue of the white dragon to prevent panic and keep the kingdom’s economy stable."

"However..." Halmar let out a long sigh and shook his head. "No matter how tightly the secret is kept, there are always those who know about it. The palace asked them to remain silent, and fortunately, they agreed. That is why the city of Nivara stays as peaceful as it is now. Otherwise..."

His words trailed off, but the aning was clear, and everyone who heard him understood imdiately.

anwhile, the people of Nivara were instantly drawn to the sight of the royal carriage.

"Who is that? Is the princess inside?"

"It doesn’t look like it. The princess’s carriage is blue, while this one is white. If I’m not mistaken, white carriages are used to transport delegations from other kingdoms or empires. So these must be guests from outside."

"Is that so? If that’s true, then who are they? And why did they co?"

A small discussion started among the local residents.

Most didn’t understand the purpose of the guests’ arrival, while those who already knew about the kingdom’s serious problem chose to remain silent and pretend they knew nothing.

Twenty minutes later, they finally arrived in front of the magnificent royal palace.

The palace stood at the edge of the city for the safety and protection of the royal family.

If an enemy attack occurred, the royal family could at least evacuate quickly.

The palace fortress stood strong, and their horse-drawn carriage passed through several strict security checkpoints.

When they reached the palace courtyard, Halmar stepped down from the coachman’s seat and opened the carriage door for those inside.

Nolan stepped out and was imdiately struck by the palace’s beauty.

"What a unique palace," he said sincerely.

The Kaldorian Royal Palace was enormous and spacious.

Its architectural style resembled that of the dieval era but was adapted to the cold climate.

The front courtyard garden wasn’t covered with grass, as grass couldn’t survive in a region as cold as the northern continent.

Instead, plants like Snowveil grew lushly there. Snowveil resembled grass but had an ice-blue color.

Its surface was smooth and soft, making it incredibly pleasant to the touch.

"You’re right, Nolan. The palace is truly amazing," Sharon chid in, nodding.

This was her first ti visiting another royal palace, and she had to admit this one was quite unique.

Cassiopeia and Draco beside them also nodded in agreent at the complint.

"Thank you for the praise, Your Highness Nolan and Your Highness Sharon," Halmar said with a broad smile.

Who wouldn’t be happy when the palace they guarded with all their heart was praised like that?

This was especially true because the complint ca from people of high status like Nolan and Sharon.

After that, Halmar led the four of them into the palace. The palace gates were heavily guarded by the royal army.

As soon as the guards saw the guests arriving, they quickly bowed their heads respectfully.

"Welco to the Kingdom of Kaldarion," they greeted in unison.

Nolan and Sharon responded with a nod.

The four of them stepped inside and looked around the palace interior with curiosity.

"By the way, His Majesty the King should already know of your arrival. However, it seems His Majesty is currently in a eting with the ministers. Please wait a mont. I will ask the guards to escort you to the parlor," Halmar said politely.

Nolan, Cassiopeia, Sharon, and Draco had no objections. They understood that the white dragon problem was extrely serious.

It wasn’t surprising that such etings were held almost every day.

After that, Halmar arranged for a guard to escort the four of them to the parlor.

He also asked the guard to inform the servants to prepare warm drinks and snacks while they waited for the king’s arrival.

As soon as the four were out of sight, Halmar imdiately walked toward the throne room.

***

"Your Majesty, when will the delegation from the Great Empire of Velmora arrive? Our kingdom is already in a severe crisis!"

"That’s right, Your Majesty! Food supplies to the city of Hivral are almost gone because we can’t send anything there. The citizens are beginning to complain, and so are even planning to revolt. If this is not resolved quickly, it could endanger the stability of the kingdom!"

"Your Majesty..."

"Your Majesty..."

Complaint after complaint entered the ears of the man on the throne, until finally his anger boiled over and he slamd his right hand on the armrest.

Bang!

The sound was so loud that all the ministers froze and imdiately stopped their complaints.

The king took a deep breath, cald himself, then said in a deep voice, "I understand your concerns. However, at this mont, there is nothing we can do. The delegation from the Great Velmora Empire should have arrived today. I want you to co up with a temporary solution."

The ministers exchanged glances, their faces filled with helplessness.

In the end, they fell silent and bowed their heads in unison.

"All right, today’s eting is over. You may leave," he said, dismissing the ministers.

After they left the room, the king finally allowed himself to relax for a mont.

This is really troubleso, he muttered softly as he massaged his temples.

He was Glarvic, the sixth king of the Kingdom of Kaldarion. Since ascending the throne, he had devoted all his strength, mind, and heart to the kingdom’s prosperity.

However, ever since the white dragon awakened, problems had piled up, causing him great distress.

Just then, the voice of the gatekeeper outside the throne room echoed through the hall.

"Captain Halmar requests permission to enter the throne room!"
