The screen lit up, and the big theater went completely silent.
Even the reporters watched the screen. They were there to get interviews, but if they didn't even know what the movie was about, how could they ask good questions?
The movie began!
The first person on the screen was the main character, Adrian, played by the young actor Paul Walker.
We hear Adrian's voice, telling his story.
"Just last year, everyone said I was a genius. I was so sure I would have a bright future. All my hard work, 15 years of playing the piano, was for this one mont... the Bernstein Piano Competition!"
"But... I failed."
"That day was a complete failure. I beca sad and stopped talking to people. I felt like I had fallen into a deep, dark hole. But I survived... and I beca a piano tuner."
As the mory ended, the audience already understood the main character.
"The beginning is good," a director nad Victor nodded. "A short film should be this fast. It gets right to the point."
The movie's main story began.
At a restaurant.
The main character, Adrian, was wearing a black suit and black sunglasses. A fat, middle-aged man nad Simon ca to his table. Simon was an agent who got piano-tuning jobs for Adrian.
"Man," Simon said, "I'm not here to watch you eat. I want to know, how did you double your jobs this month?"
Adrian just shrugged. "Your clients like my work. What's so shocking?"
"Nonsense!" the agent said, trying to keep his voice down. "I got a call today asking for my 'blind tuner'. You jerk! Don't you have an explanation?"
Blind tuner?
Adrian smiled and started telling a long, strange story.
"In the Mughal Empire, after the emperor's wife died..."
"Stop it, stop it!" the agent interrupted, getting angry. "I don't have ti for your nonsense!"
But Adrian kept going, calm and cool.
"The emperor was so sad. He called the best builder and asked him, 'Do you love your wife?' The builder said, 'Yes, I love her more than my own life.' The emperor said, 'Very good. Then I will have her put to death. That way, you can feel my pain, and you will build the best tomb in the world for my wife.'"
"So," Adrian finished, "the emperor killed the builder's wife, and the builder built the Taj Mahal."
Agent Simon just stared at him, totally confused. "..."
Adrian smiled a playful, secret smile. "People believe that after you lose sothing, like your sight, your other senses get sharper. They think that because I'm blind, my hearing is perfect."
He leaned in. "I'm a blind tuner!"
"They tell all their friends," he continued. "I get bigger tips, and people are much nicer to ."
"And... they are less guarded. They are more relaxed. I also learn a lot of their secrets."
The movie screen then showed what he ant.
A man takes off his pants right in the living room.
A beautiful young woman, thinking he's blind, changes her clothes and dances around.
Because everyone thought he was blind, they let him into their private lives. He was like a spy! He loved this feeling. He was tricking everyone, and he felt like a god.
By now, everyone in the audience understood. He wasn't a blind tuner. He was a fake blind tuner.
"What a scumbag," a woman in the audience whispered. "He's a genius!" a man next to her whispered back.
In the movie, the agent, Simon, finally got it. "You... you are such a genius, you bastard!"
"So, I beca blind," Adrian said, and he pulled down his sunglasses.
"What is this?" the agent asked.
"Contact lenses," Adrian smiled. "You didn't think I was really blind, did you?"
"Being 'blind' has a lot of benefits. Here, I'll show you."
He called a waiter over.
"Waiter," Adrian said, "I'm looking for a missing banknote. No, not that one. The money is different. Because I'm blind, I can't see, so you're trying to cheat , right? Hmph! You're discriminating against a blind man! I want to speak to your manager!"
The manager rushed over, apologizing, and said the al was free.
What a scumbag! He had just gotten a free al by tricking them.
The scene changed. Adrian was on the street, waiting to cross. An old woman was waiting next to him.
He got that playful look on his face again.
"Ma'am," Adrian asked, "do you need to help you cross the road?"
"Uh..." The old woman was stunned. She looked at the traffic light, then at the white cane in Adrian's hand. She was so confused.
Who wouldn't be? A blind man was offering to help a person who could see cross the street!
This was Adrian. He loved the feeling of tricking people. It made him feel superior.
The movie was halfway through. Everyone in the audience—the reporters, the filmmakers, and the judges—was hooked. They all wanted to know what would happen next.
And so, under the audience's full attention, Adrian got another job.
He arrived at a new client's door. He took a small notebook from his pocket, looked at the address, closed it, and put it back.
Then he put on his "blind" face... and rang the doorbell.
