Chapter 345. To Do List (4)

Truly, it was full of questions.

"They're really concentrating all their forces on just one side like that?"

The only thing he had done since coming in here was hide by a pillar near the entrance, killing ti. He hadn't struck anyone yet, and certainly hadn't aggressively stirred up the enemy inside. So, logically speaking, it made more sense to be wary of Kim Giryeo, who had actually gone inside, rather than himself standing guard at the entrance.

But why did this happen?

"No, this is a bit..."

Before long, a growing anomaly was captured in his reptilian-style vision. A significant number of the top-tier awakened beings within the facility were moving en masse toward the entrance. Noticing such coordinated movent, Kang Changho could no longer hide his bewildernt.

"Why , of all people?"

Unfortunately, he couldn't properly resolve the questions that were lingering in his mind.

Before he knew it, their forces had reached right in front of him. Kim Giryeo's request had simply been to prevent anyone from leaving this place. But with a force of superpowered individuals that is overwhelming, the usual concern would be whether the doorman ends up as a corpse... For a fleeting mont, Kang Changho was tempted to surrender.

It was a mont where such thoughts were inevitable. The enemies were drawing closer by the second, yet the questions wouldn't leave his mind. Why, of all things, was the entrance being so openly and heavily guarded like this?

anwhile, at the sa ti.

Tap tap tap, tap tap tap tap-

B2 floor of a certain building. The lively sound of typing echoed through the room. If this were an ordinary workplace, such a loud, clicky chanical keyboard likely wouldn't be used due to the noise. However, the person typing away didn't seem to care in the slightest. After all, beyond this room, the massive bunker known informally as "the Factory" was entirely his property.

[Central Server Room]

"Hmm."

Soone wearing glasses couldn't take their eyes off the screen.

[41.40338-2.17403]

[78.45122-57.68550]

On the wide monitor he was staring at, seemingly aningless numbers were flowing down like a stream.

"No matter how I look at it, it really does seem like another S-rank has erged in China..."

But perhaps there was so aning in that stream of numbers—because soon, the person seated there began to mutter to himself.

"Maybe I should stock up on so Chinese alcohol soon."

It was hard to believe that the leader of such a powerful organization—one capable of disguising top-tier dostic hunter Enzo Chano as a re terrorist—would say sothing so ordinary. From an unknown standpoint, the chatroom he belonged to was nothing more, nothing less than a selfish and ruthless group.

And yet, despite being a criminal who once tried to flood a nation's capital with blood, this particular individual continued to show a remarkably casual daily life. Sotis, he'd hop onto YTube and watch whatever the algorithm threw at him. Other tis, when he had a free mont, he'd play a VOD movie that had just been sitting in the corner of his screen.

But just as he was idly killing ti, a red warning light suddenly lit up on one side of the wide monitor.

[Discovered: Entrance Opened]

For reference, today there are no items scheduled to arrive. Nor is anyone expected to co in. So why has the only entrance—one that should've remained firmly shut—suddenly opened?

"A glitch?"

The owner of the bunker naturally considered the possibility—maybe the program had glitched. But the mont he pulled up the surveillance footage to verify the alert, it beca imdiately clear that this assumption was wrong.

"This is..."

He realized too late that the entrance had been destroyed. It looked as if a rampaging elephant had slamd into it—completely torn apart. If the door had been breached to that extent, then whoever ca in was clearly no ordinary guest.

"Who is it?"

But the real problem was figuring out the identity of those abnormal intruders.

One had a dark, intense expression and deep brown hair. The other was much younger, with light-colored hair and a face noticeably marked with freckles. The bunker's owner alternated his gaze between the two intruders captured by the surveillance feed, his eyes narrowing with growing suspicion.

"Both of them have ordinary looks, like people you might have bumped into a few tis sowhere on the street..."

For a mont, he had the illusion that he had t them before.

"They have such unremarkable appearances... In that case, are they using disguise artifacts with high probability?"

However, the person staring at the monitor had an extrely narrow circle of acquaintances.

[Warning: Face not recognized.]

[Warning: Face not recognized. (2)]

[Recomnded Action: Due to the use of an item, the entrant's identity cannot be verified. It is advised to summon an administrator for face-to-face confirmation...]

Soon after, the program within the computer confird the fact beyond doubt. The two outsiders who had just entered were indeed unfamiliar faces—ones he definitely did not recognize.

"Originally, I developed this system to hand over to the FBI. Still has quite a few bugs, but... the response ti's not bad at all."

A high-resolution cara that could zoom into every detail—even down to a single eyelash on a person's face. And a program that took all that data and reconstructed it in three-dinsional detail. Co to think of it... computer technology really is absurdly convenient.

"Hmm."

So people in this world often described the abilities used by awakened individuals as magic. But the man staring at the monitor thought a little differently.

"Awakener..."

As expected, isn't it the knowledge humanity has accumulated over countless years that is the true magic? Technology and the future—things more valuable than even gold that doesn't decay—are what truly matter. So why do so people blindly worship the awakened? He just doesn't get it.

Like those beasts caught on cara right now—he doesn't understand why they resort to such primitive displays of power other.

"Violent from the start, I see. My, my."

The true nature of the Beast Incident is finally revealed. Andy Oliver sprang into action without hesitation.

Click.

He pressed three specific keys simultaneously with his fingers. Then, words with a ssage roughly like this appeared on the screen.

[Magic power scan complete]

This was sothing the folks above ground didn't really know—but the man sitting in this seat had mastered nearly all of the technology used by Pixy. For that sa reason, he could also operate the latest analysis device released this year, all from where he sat.

To think it's now possible to asure the amount of mana within a person's body down to such precise figures.

"Hmm!"

But with this precise scan data, a truly miraculous search becos possible from that point on. An Awakener's magic information is, in fact, like a fingerprint. Even if the quantity looks similar on the surface, the numbers after the decimal point of the mana level are all different for each individual. Therefore, by cross-referencing these characteristic numbers with the hunter information stored in various national databases, you can surprisingly narrow down who that person is to a general degree...

[Confirmation required]

[Case 1. Comparison test error]

[Case 2. Comparison test error]

...was how it should have worked—so why isn't it working all of a sudden?

"What?"

The man nad Oliver propped up his chin and spent a mont simply watching the screen. Just as he was about to identify the intruders, two unexpected errors suddenly popped up. Still, the one fortunate thing was that there were only a few known reasons why issues like this tended to occur.

First, when the awakener's magic has never been registered in the database.

"To put it in the terms used by so Eastern countries, it's like an "unlicensed" hunter."

And the second is when a person's awakening level has changed, causing a discrepancy between the recorded data and the current value.

"For the most well-known example of this, just think of Korea's Choe, who obtained the [Dragon's Heart]."

The problem, however, was the sheer power of the awakened individuals who had entered this location. When scanning using the older model detectors installed throughout the bunker, both of the intruders appeared to be S-rank level powerhouses. And really, how common are such superpowered individuals in this world? Moreover—what if one of them was actually making use of a dragon's organ?

"There aren't many cases like that."

A sudden idea flashed through his mind. So Andy Oliver moved his fingers and began typing on the keyboard.

[->To: Security Office - Please scan the two intruders with the item scanner and check if they possess any dragon-type organs.]

At this point, the expected result ca back.

[->Sender: Security Office - Confird that the awakened individual at the entrance is wearing 'Dragon's Eye1']

Loot from dragons is generally acquired by the strong. However, perhaps due to its rarity, there have been surprisingly few cases where such items are actually worn. There are only about two known S-rank psychics in the world currently using the [Dragon's Eye], so the list of suspects narrowed quickly.

"One of them is under my command. Which ans the other must be the S-rank Hunter from South Korea...?"

Kang Changho has appeared.

The dark side of PIXY, and the underground ruler who had secretly ford cartels with the heads of major guilds from various countries, was actually a fearful man. His distinctive personality was revealed in his actions—sacrificing many for the sake of youth, driven by his fear of death.

So when news arrived that Kang Changho had appeared, he made a decision without a mont's hesitation. He would imdiately mobilize every esper stationed in the bunker.

"I really don't know what thod that Awakener will use. I had definitely set a trap with the resolve to kill them, but they broke through it and ca back anyway, didn't they?"

Additionally, at this mont, Andy Oliver's intelligence network began to shine.

[->Sender: Security Office - The other awakened individual who entered is also using an organ artifact. That one has the 'Lungs.']

To be honest, this last ssage was just received—he had no idea what it was supposed to an.

"S-rank awakened using a useless lung?"

An individual capable of accompanying Kang Changho, who had entered the country illegally without even appearing on the news. Andy Oliver assud that such a person would also be a hunter from South Korea. Despite the fact that Kang Changho had foreign grandparents—a rather unique trait—he rarely left his ho country, making the list of people he interacted with fairly predictable.

"No way."

But co to think of it, it hadn't that S-rank hunter been frequently seen accompanying a certain hunter over the past year?

"Could it be that one rushing this way is that blond Asian guy...?"

The bunker owner instantly recognized the identity of the remaining intruder.

33Aw.

At the sa ti, a certain number flashed through his mind. In the past, he had looked down on that awakened one just because such a pathetic figure had co back.

"Seeing how he's entering alone like this... he must have so kind of special trait too. And at the very least, it's enough for him to convincingly pose as an S-rank in front of others."

He quickly reassessed the situation and changed his mindset. Even though he had a pretty good guess that the one accompanying Kang Changho was Kim Giryeo, he didn't let his guard down as if dealing with an ordinary F-rank—a clear sign that he wasn't taking anything for granted.

"I'll have to deal with both of them."

But if there was a slight problem. Because no matter what, he couldn't put the hunter with the blue-violet hair—whose strength was a mystery—on the sa level as the 33Aw...

"All the capable personnel inside the bunker should be sent imdiately to the entrance to swiftly eliminate Kang Changho. And as for Kim Giryeo's side, having about two S-rank operatives should be enough to buy so ti."

This was the power of the subconscious. Without realizing it, he had assessed Kim Giryeo as the lower-tier weakling, while at the sa ti, he had grown slightly fearful of Kang Changho—who had managed to break through a seemingly inescapable trap—leading to this outco.

When the danger rankings are already clearly set in his mind, how could he possibly distribute the bunker's forces equally?

"But seriously, that really caught off guard. How did those hunters even know about the entrance."

Andy Oliver composed a group ssage instructing everyone to prioritize caution toward the awakener at the entrance.

"Just what is their purpose for coming here..."

Tak.

And after sending the ssage, he began to act in a way completely unbefitting soone facing a crisis.

"Anyway, it's annoying."

He suddenly began tidying up his desk. Papers that had been scattered everywhere were quickly gathered into a neat pile. Then, without hesitation, he shut down the computer that had been running smoothly and began disconnecting several rectangular devices—presumably storage drives. But judging from how he grabbed the SSD first, it was clear this was an ergency protocol he had rehearsed many tis before.

"Everyone, get ready."

They still didn't know exactly who the awakened one rampaging through the bunker really was. Sending an assassin wielding an incredible power like superhuman abilities—well, let's say that much is understandable. But no matter how strong the person is, isn't it aningless if they never actually cross paths?

"It's a sha, but now that the bunker's been exposed, this isn't the ti to be holding back."

The dream item every coward in the world desires. [Teleportation Stone]. A lightweight, fragile object that, when crushed, would instantly transport the user to the desired location. A ans of teleportation once thought to be nearly impossible—had, in fact, long been in Andy Oliver's possession.

"Whether Kang Changho is death with property or not, there's no need to stick around and watch how it ends. I'll just run away imdiately."

But just before escaping, at that very mont when he was about to destroy all the sensitive information that remained here...

Click.

"Aaaaahhhhh!"

To be precise, it was the very mont he pressed the format button on the central computer—

that a scream erupted from behind him. For reference, the only people present in this room besides Andy Oliver were a few bodyguards stationed there to protect him.

But what possible reason could there be for the bodyguards—whose sole task was to protect him—to suddenly let out such blood-curdling screams? The mont he turned his head to look behind him, this was the scene that greeted his eyes.

Hair the color of sand. Short, unremarkable hair. And freckles scattered across the face.

"Ah!"

But the most striking fear of all was those piercing sambangan eyes. The man, whose pupils were relatively small, opened his slightly hooded eyes wide and spoke.

"Why did you suddenly send two S-rank hunters? I got so startled that I ended up running here."

He had a Western face, but he spoke Korean. What's more, even though they were face-to-face like this, he felt no mana at all, which only intensified the feeling of strangeness. To be pressured like this by soone with the appearance of a bookworm—soone he must have seen in a classroom during his school days but whose na he couldn't rember!

There was no answer.

Crack!

As soon as Andy Oliver realized who appeared behind him, he smashed the teleportation stone in his hand. And then, without hesitation, he closed his eyes.

Originally, by the ti he opened his closed eyelids, he should have appeared in the other hideout that he had set in advance.

"I should just stay in this country's hotel for a while."

But really wasn't like that.

"..."

Whoosh, hoosh, hoosh.

The sound of the ventilation fan spinning inside the bunker. For so reason, the sound kept ringing out, and with a strange feeling, he opened his eyes.

"...?"

The surroundings were the sa.

Sandy-colored hair. Pale skin. And a young man, his face still marked with familiar blemishes, was still standing there in the dim shadow of the bunker.
