Chapter 385. Sumr Farming (5)

Esther, whose neck was reddened from running around all day on adrenaline, had been perfectly fine just three seconds ago, if you ignored that. Yet suddenly, she clutched her chest and collapsed.

"Guild Master!"

"Director Esther!"

"Ugh! What the heck!"

It seed the shock had built up so much that even the universal antidote given as a dungeon reward couldn't fix it. Fortunately, the reaction was different from the anaphylaxis caused by Earth's bees. In any case, Esther's entire body was paralyzed from the impact of the white bees.

"Defensive type, carry the boss and fall back for now!"

"Yes, yes!"

By objective assessnt, Korea's second-ranked hunter seed less skilled at hunting than Jung Haseong. He hadn't received tutoring from the aliens yet, and being born with the [Curse] attribute, which has very distinct strengths and weaknesses, made this inevitable.

But it was truly strange. No matter how you looked at it, the Awakened who couldn't exactly be called number one collapsed, and the situation quickly teetered on the edge of a cliff.

"Ugh."

The world where superpowers had beco reality was just a simple backdrop. Esther naturally had a talent for leading people, so with her out of the picture, the atmosphere on the scene descended into confusion.

"What should we do from here on?"

Even industry veterans with considerable experience began asking bewildered questions.

"What do you an, 'what now'?"

But instead of getting frustrated, Jung Haseong took a practical approach.

"You're a hunter, so pull yourself together and focus on the hunt!"

Bam!

Of course, it wasn't an action carried out entirely through rational thought. With the monster charging from the front, his body had simply reacted reflexively, launching a preemptive attack.

[Ego Sword Status Alert]

[Slow Charging... ●●●]

[Comnt: (Na not registered) I'm extracting a small amount of mana every day to ensure no harm cos to the master's body.]

For reference, [Sword of Sunset] still couldn't reuse its automatic reflex function. To be precise, while it could be activated, it was impossible to exert the strong sealing effect like when suppressing a beast. But Jung Haseong himself was completely unaware of this.

"Let's fall back for now. Sohow create distance and buy so ti..."

The black-haired young man activated his superpower.

Flare—

Once again, he launched a wide-area attack to burn the white bees—the biggest hidden threat in the [Delhi No. 1614] gate. However, unlike before, this attempt yielded poor results.

"Ugh!"

"Hunter!"

"All the Recovery Awakened, stick together. Ha, and when the hell are the A-rank ones who set up barriers going to arrive?!"

There were too many enemies. As a result, a third group, barely caught in the wide flas, started rushing in.

"They're not sharp enough to pierce armor, but the problem is the skin on the face!"

If he had known it would co to this, he should have bought that helt from the last auction.

"It was finally a design person could actually wear, but I gave it up on it because they said the weight was such a drawback that it would hinder movent."

As Jung Haseong continued his thoughts, he conjured flas once again. The buzzing, unpleasant flapping ca right next to his ear, leaving him no choice but to respond. Yet, even with the fire, progress in solving the problem remained slow.

"Light it hot!"

No matter how naturally gifted one is with arson, it's hard to stay unhard after setting fire to your own body. This ant he had to maintain at least a minimal distance to avoid the heat. Within that safe zone of flas, the irritating noise persisted.

Wheeeeeeeeing.

To a person, it felt no different from the flapping of a demon.

"If there hadn't been so many of them, we could've managed...!"

Despite looking so insignificant, they launched an assault that even Korea's top 5-rank hunter could hardly fend off.

But then...

The enemy's speed. Their large numbers. And the inevitable gaps that arise between the flas and humans.

As Jung Haseong considered the various factors of the current situation, he suddenly ca up with a solution.

"Perhaps?"

Could this be the mont to put to use the techniques he has been learning all through the latter half of the tutoring?

"AHHH!"

"Back off! Back further!"

"It just keeps respawning endlessly! And why are they so strong? I only barely brushed against them!"

The monsters that appeared with the gate break from a certain nest all shared similar traits. They shifted between attack stands and a state called rest, regulating their own energy. However, the fierce assaults that only occurred during the attack stance were essentially close-range body slams...

"All I have to do is successfully execute the technique Hunter Kim Giryeo has been endlessly talking about."

The secret art of the fire-attribute superpower, which allows one to move unhard even after setting their own body ablaze. If he could just pull that off, most of the hardships he faced now would lt away.

Tuk!

After finishing his thought, Jung Haseong imdiately reached for the item box at his waist. He intended to drink all the mana potions he had to the limit.

"Hunters, fall back for now."

"Yes?"

"I'm going to temporarily turn off the wall! So, please retreat to the boundary and keep the monsters from escaping."

"Ah. Yes. Yes!"

"Please, I'm counting on you!"

But any ultimate technique learned in theory... even if he succeeded right here and now, it would honestly pose several problems.

"Is creating just that much distance really the best I can do?"

A man with bleached hair said,

Ah, Jung Haseong. I'm just letting you know for reference, but you must never use this technique when soone weak is nearby.Yes?This technique only spreads your ability thinly around your own body, so aren't you curious why I'm giving this warning?Y, yes. That's because once this skill is fully executed... its power difference becos so great that even you'll be shocked. That much?In practice, the fla might feel as thin as a sheet of paper. Strangely, though, it actually generates enormous energy capable of altering the environnt within a radius of about 400 ters.

"~

This is the mystery of mana compression.I see.Co to think of it, isn't it amazing that we can create such a miracle with nothing but our will?

Well, anyway, there's roughly so kind of background behind it. So of course, one has to be careful not to harm the people nearby. But strangely enough, Jung Haseong didn't bother to factor in one particular warning that had been added on top.

Transforming the environnt within a radius of about 400 ters...

Because this area is just fields and farmland with no buildings?

Of course, that part had an influence too. But above all, the national hero had sothing he was relying on.

"Now, in Korea, there is Hunter Kim Giryeo."

This is the backing he has in the new era.

Even now, whenever he closed his eyes, the scenery of that day flashed before him. The gloomy Seoul sky, choked with smoke rising from every corner, suddenly opened up and poured down rain. And those fantastical phenona, where raindrops cold enough to sting the cheeks persisted unnaturally, Kim Giryeo, an S-rank awakened, had once made rain fall upon the city.

If he could do that, then wouldn't extinguishing a re localized fire be an even simpler task for him?

"Once Hunter Kim Giryeo arrives, everything will work out sohow."

The black-haired Korean man thought to himself. Even if he were to unleash a heat so great that human society could no longer withstand it... Even if these rice fields were to turn into nothing but a pit of molten lava... In the end, he fancied, everything would be fine as long as so water-type superhuman arrived.

"I'm okay now."

Magic power swelled higher and higher. In truth, the hunter nad Jung Haseong had long carried a chronic weakness. Whenever he set foot on this familiar Earth, on landscapes etched into mory, he found himself unable to unleash his greatest techniques. Yet the mont the fourth S-rank, a peerless titan among titans, proved his strength, that chronic ailnt vanished as if it had never existed.

"Now I really don't have to be afraid of my own flas anymore."

Because not long ago, he had confird that there were things in this world far more terrifying than his own superpower.

And then, a strange phenonon began to unfold.

Mages. Sorcerers. AAnd on Earth, individuals known as superpowered beings are inherently born from stress. To put it more simply, they were much like mutants. In other words, their birth was a result of so flaw—similar to how albinos sotis appear in nature.

At this mont, only one person in Korea went through the process completely in reverse.

"And even if we end up failing, this place will ultimately be safe. After all, Hunter Kim Giryeo is on the way, right?"

Jung Haseong was able to unleash his full power because he had faith in soone.

It had always been that way since his school days. Had he been raised under a strict, harsh guardian, he oddly would have done poorly in his studies. By his very nature, he was the kind of person who could only drive himself forward and grow when he felt at ease—when he was in a calm, steady state that others might even find boring.

And so, this was the result that soon followed.

"I have to give it a try, no matter what!"

As soon as Jung Haseong's inner stress subsided, he regained a clear mind and activated the skill.

Flash—

Sothing that had shown not even half its effect on a beach in Incheon.

"Kwiik—!"

In other words, the unified attack and defense achieved by setting one's own body on fire.

Oh, why isn't this working? Why?

It's not simply a matter of luck. Jung Haseong hadn't been joking—he truly trained until he bled, and so completed a notion. Even when his master who taught the technique wasn't watching, he forced himself, scolded himself, and practiced so much that the pads of his hands were worn down to his nails; as a result, he was finally able to produce a high quality fla.

"What is this?"

As the pyromancer had warned, he managed to create quite a bit of distance, and yet the Koreans present on the scene soon fell into the sa impression.

"The light is so bright I can't see ahead."

Like a star that sustained their world. Although Jung Haseong was a remarkably kind superhuman, he cast a peculiar spell that made it impossible to raise one's head. As his blonde teacher had taught him, when he compressed his mana to the utmost limit, the flas grew impossibly hotter. And as he applied every trick of unification without forgetting a single one each passing second, the blazing heat finally took root upon the gifted one's skin. If there had been anyone here able to keep their eyes open, they would have realized that a figure of blue fire was standing in the clearing.

Fwoosh!

On Alpharat, this was the ergence of what they so-called an Incarnation mage.

"Grrr!"

Groans could be heard. The dungeon beasts reacted to the sudden surge of heat. And, drawn to the caster's compressed surge of miraculous energy, the white wasps sward in like moths to a lamp...

Tatadadak!

All of their attacks were instantly burned away by the outer layer of fla. Having succeeded in casting the spell the great mage had hinted at, Jung Haseong had beco untouchable, even against S-rank monsters. Since it was the fruit of fierce stress combined with an inhuman amount of training, it almost felt instinctively as though he had touched upon the "next stage" of a mage.

"..."

It worked. It worked. Did I really succeed...?

It was just as a flood of thoughts ran through his mind. Jung Haseong's neat, enviable face, inherited from his mother, was now surrounded by blue flas. Yet the national hero, in this unfamiliar form, perford a more human act than anyone else.

"Kkeuk!"

He roasted the beasts that threatened his precious ho.

Cliek.

Until just monts ago, the pyromancer had been preoccupied with creating distance, but now he walked forward him. It was more simple than the third-party perspective, the battle actually seed less flashy than before. That was because it was almost entirely one-sided.

"Have we caught them all now?"

But just as he was about to slowly withdraw his skill,

"Huh?"

An anomaly occurred. The fire simply wouldn't go out.

"The skill."

The sensation now was as if soone were forcibly sucking the liquid from inside his body. He had succeeded in executing the best attack of a fire-attribute awakened, but this being only his first success, side effects soon began to appear.

"Why... can't I stop the skill?"

The icy blue flas covering his body burned on relentlessly, as if determined to consu all the fuel in his body. As a result, Jung Haseong soon collapsed to the ground.

"Is it oxygen deprivation?"

For so reason, his chest had been tight since earlier, and his head felt dizzy. These symptoms, which could easily be mistaken for indigestion, were the result of continuous mana leakage.

"This shouldn't be happening."

But if this continued, it would cause all sorts of problems. Although the monsters had all been dealt with, the fire had spread during the hunt, turning the innocent clearing into a blazing inferno.

"Even Hunter Esther has passed out, so now I'm the only top-tier one left."

Jung Haseong wanted to deal with the blazing pit of fire, too hot for A-rank hunters to handle carelessly. But his body barely moved, leaving him flustered in more ways than one.

Tuk.Tuk. Tuduk. Tududuk.

Suddenly, clear water fell over his entire body, which had been engulfed in blue flas.

"..."

Rain suddenly appeared in a region that had been forecasted to remain dry all day. Jung Haseong quickly realized who had arrived at the scene and slowly let tears fill his eyes.
