The Incubus System Chapter 779. My Cult?
"Indeed, it could be wrong," she admitted.
"It is wrong," I said firmly.
"But you keep showing up where it all happened, so you should know sothing, right?" Elenna emphasized.
She sounded so sure of herself, as if my re presence near certain events ant I held all the answers.
I let out an exasperated sigh. Leave it to Elenna to connect dots that weren't necessarily ant to be connected.
I frowned, my displeasure evident. "Am I in the video? No, right? You are referring to past events, right?" I asked, hoping to bring so sense to the situation.
She pressed her lips together, a clear sign that my logic was making an impact.
I let out a drawn-out breath, my shoulders slumping. "I just hope this sorts things out, or maybe you should consider a new target," I mused, more to myself than to her.
With a curt nod, I began to turn away. But, as luck would have it, my few steps were interrupted by her voice once more.
"I saw the demon heading straight for your place, Ethan," she declared, her tone shifting from casual conversation to a bombshell drop.
My steps ca to an abrupt halt, my heart deciding to start its own drumline inside my chest.
I spun around to face her, attempting to wear an expression of cool indifference, though my insides were doing their best impression of a roller coaster in freefall.
"A demon at my doorstep?" I echoed her statent, my brows knitting together.
I was trying to make sense of what she was saying.
My mind was working overti, wondering if one of my pets who just ca ho from their hunt, had been caught in her sights.
But there was also a nagging thought... was she just playing a mind ga?
"Yep, you heard right," she responded, her lips curving into a half-smile that seed a tad too smug to be genuine. It was like she was daring to doubt her.
"Seriously? You're not seeing things again, are you?" I quirked an eyebrow at her in clear skepticism. "Because if your theory holds any water, that demon should've taken a swing at , right?" I folded my arms.
Elenna's eyes remained fixed on . "Ethan, I'm not seeing things. And I'm more convinced than ever that you're keeping so sort of secret. I've been digging into your story. I'm catching onto the edges of it. Now, I propose a deal! Spill the beans, and I'll keep your secret off the radar of both the police and the demon hunters," she challenged .
I let out an incredulous snort, my lips curling into a mocking grin.
"Hold on a second, did I stumble into so alternate reality? Because I'm pretty sure this qualifies as total nonsense," I retorted, my tone dripping with sarcasm.
Elenna's eyes flashed with a fire that I hadn't anticipated.
"This isn't a joke, Ethan! I've pieced together enough to know there's more to you than ets the eye. You can keep pretending, but I'm not letting go of this until you co clean."
"Tell . If a demon has entered my house, why am I still alive now?" I repeated the question, my tone laced with skepticism.
Elenna's eyes widened as if she had just cracked the code to a complex puzzle.
"That's because you're buddies with that demon!" she declared. A finger jab toward .
Then, she stopped herself, a realization dawning upon her. "Wait a second… you... you're not just pals with the demon. You're part of his entourage. You're a card-carrying mber of that cult," she accused, her finger now pointed at like an accusing arrow.
I raised an eyebrow, my confusion gradually morphing into bewildernt.
"What cult?"
"The great demon cult!" she emphasized, as if that would make everything fall into place.
"Huh?" I let out a rather unintelligent noise. I tried to process what Elenna was suggesting.
"Stop trying to act like you have no idea!" Elenna snapped.
"There's actually a cult dedicated to the great demon?" I asked.
She rolled her eyes, as if my skepticism was a re inconvenience. "Nice attempt at playing dumb, Ethan. But I'm not falling for it," she shot back, her tone dripping with skepticism.
"Tell about this supposed cult," I asked once again.
For a mont, she was quiet, and I could almost see the gears turning in her head. It was like she was starting to realize that maybe, just maybe, I genuinely had no idea what she was talking about. Her confident facade was starting to crack.
I closed the gap between us, my impatience clear in my stance. "Alright, spill it. What are you talking about?" I demanded, my tone more forceful than I intended.
"You're seriously telling you have no clue?" she sighed, clearly frustrated.
"Since you have nothing to do with it, I guess we're done here. Sorry for wasting your ti," she said with an air of annoyance, turning away as if ready to march off.
I watched her.
Was she seriously just going to storm off after dropping that bombshell?
I an, co on, that was like tossing a riddle at and then walking away like it was no big deal.
Her footsteps grew fainter.
Oh no, she wasn't going to leave hanging like this. I wasn't about to let her get away with it.
"Not so fast," I muttered under my breath, my frustration fueling my decision. In a swift motion, I clenched my fist and whispered, "Demonic form… activated…"
