The Incubus System Chapter 803. Loyal Stalker
The next morning, I woke up a bit later than usual. The soft rays of the morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow in the room.
As was usual, I made my way to the kitchen to join Celia and the rest of our unusual household for breakfast. The clinking of dishes and the aroma of freshly made French toast greeted as I entered the cozy space. Celia had prepared a hearty breakfast for and Jill
Jill, our newest addition, was seated at the table, her deanor noticeably improved from the previous day.
She sipped her orange juice and engaged in light conversation with Foxy, who sat across from her. Despite her unique circumstances, Jill was beginning to settle into her new environnt.
After grabbing a plate of eggs and toast, I settled into my usual seat at the table. I couldn't help but cast a watchful eye on Jill, checking on her with my Observation skill.
It was a reassuring sight to see her without a fever, a sign that her health was steadily improving. We had refrained from administering any dication, unsure of its compatibility with her unique condition. Jill seed much more at ease.
There was no overt indication of any unusual changes in her strength or abilities. She appeared, for all intents and purposes, like any other child her age.
With breakfast done, Jill went to play, her laughter now ringing through the room, engaged in spirited play with my unusual pets.
Foxy seed to have taken an instant liking to her. Jill's eyes sparkled with excitent as she darted around the living room, her new friends hot on her heels.
The background noise of the television added to the cheerful ambiance. I had chosen a classic cartoon, sothing universally enjoyable and light-hearted.
While I decided to help Celia clean up the dishes. As I scrubbed the dishes in the kitchen, Celia leaned casually against the counter, her eyes occasionally darting towards Jill, who was engrossed in the cartoon show on TV.
"So? What did you find last night?" Celia inquired, starting our conversation about Jill.
I continued my dishwashing chore. "Not much," I replied casually. "I only managed to brainwash another senator and convinced a few corruptors to return what they had taken," I answered in a nonchalant tone.
Celia's eyebrows arched inquisitively. "Oh, really? The second one, how did you manage that?"
I paused my dishwashing to offer a brief explanation. "I used my Dream Stealer Skill," I said, then resud cleaning a particularly stubborn plate. "It gives them nightmares until they decide to cooperate."
Celia was clearly impressed. "Wow! You can really go that far," she remarked, her admiration evident.
I nodded, turning off the tap and reaching for a towel to dry my hands. With the dishes done, I faced Celia. "Yeah," I replied somberly. "I also found out that the experint has been stopped. They released the children, but most of them ended up in orphanages. And there was only one success from that whole experint."
Celia's eyebrows furrowed in curiosity. "You an there are other children besides Jill? And they just let them go like that?"
I nodded again, elaborating on what I had discovered. "Yes, there are ten of them in total. One of them didn't make it, unfortunately. The orphanage itself is governnt-owned, and only specific individuals, usually with ties to the governnt, are allowed to adopt these special children. Most of the adopters work for the governnt, and they have to sign a letter of agreent."
Celia breathed a sigh of relief. "Thankfully the experint was stopped," she comnted, her worry sowhat alleviated. But her curiosity quickly returned. "Wait... why was the experint stopped? Did sothing tragic happen there?" she probed further.
I gave a thoughtful nod. "The main reason is the cost," I explained. "The experint was too expensive. They used high-end technology and materials. That's why it was limited to just ten subjects, all of whom had to possess a special bloodline."
Celia nodded in understanding. "So, you haven't found out anything about Jill's mom yet?" she guessed.
I shook my head slightly. "I have her identity now, and I plan to look into it tonight before I join the Angel Creation Project." I let out a long breath. "Actually, I want to distance Jill from us as much as possible before the senators catch on to her presence. Do you have any ideas?" I asked Celia.
Celia pondered for a mont before suggesting, "Should we leave her to Camila? She's quite resourceful."
I considered the idea for a mont. "I've thought about that too," I replied. "But it feels like too much to ask of her. She's not everyone's caretaker," I remarked, recalling how Camila had stepped in to care for Celia during my months-long absence in the dark dinsion.
"So?" Celia questioned, her curiosity unabated.
"We can only put our hope on Mrs. Clea," I replied, my tone tinged with a touch of uncertainty.
Celia nodded in agreent, acknowledging the limited options we had. "Right," she muttered. Then, she suddenly rembered sothing else.
"Also, one more thing," she added.
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Hm?" I prompted her to continue.
"Aren't you going to do sothing to your loyal stalker? She's been lurking behind the fence since early this morning," Celia pointed out, her irritation evident. She was, of course, referring to Ruby.
