It went without saying that, leaving from the Inn, Lex was dressed in a suit, similar to Gerard. Considering the growing skill of Geeves, there was nothing like wearing a custom made suit that he had made, even ignoring the many augntative benefits the suit itself provided.
As such, when their container reached their destination, and the group saw the chaos in front of them, it looked like they had co to a disaster relief site in formal wear.
The hall they arrived in seed to be a generic landing site for these glass containers. Or rather, this was probably the room where the teleportation formation on the receiving end of inter-realm travel sent all the containers once they arrived within the Uzuz realm.
Their own container was still intact, but in the hall in front of Lex, hundreds of other broken containers lay on the ground, devoid of whoever they were supposed to bring. Many containers also survived, bringing its inhabitants over safely - or safe enough. That clearly included the gargoyles, but the mont they appeared within this hall they were all killed or restrained by quite a few powerful cultivators.
However, the survivors who managed to last long enough facing the gargoyles were the ones causing havoc at the mont. Many of them were severely wounded, crying and wailing for dical help, whereas those who were not injured were either yelling at the bank personnel or trying to run away in a panic.
The stronger cultivators could obviously control all the panicking guests, but considering their recent failure, restraining their guests would make them look even worse.
"It's not a party until a hidden, evil organization tries to attack you, huh?" mused Lex, though he didn't really move or anything. He could feel several very hostile aura locking on to him, so it was best not to alarm anyone.
"You all seem surprisingly calm, considering soone just tried to kill us," said Ripley with a slight frown. "I'm sorry you got caught up in this ss. The bank will surely compensate you for the danger you were faced with, just as soon as things get sorted out here."
"It's not the first ti people have tried to kill ," Lex said with a shrug.
"Compared to the kind of dates my girlfriend enjoys, suffering an attempted assassination sounds like a ta week night, where there's still work in the morning so you restrain yourself," said Gerard.
"I'm wondering if all this is because there's soone, sowhere trying to fight for his love. That would be so romantic," said Velma, her eyes replaced with hearts. It was actually quite a funny sight - she must have purposefully used so technique to allow her eyes to convert like that.
"Yeah, you see, we're all very relaxed about such things," said Lex. "Rather than so kind of compensation, I'd prefer if you could share information on who tried to attack us, and how. Oh, also so information about the container would be nice."
Ripley nodded with so hesitation, as if he was unsure about Lex's request.
"I will communicate your desires to the relevant departnts. If you don't mind, I need to step away for a mont so I can report what happened to us exactly. Please wait here for a little longer, soone will co and escort you away once things calm down a bit."
Ripley left after excusing himself, but the rest of them stayed within their container. None of them had missed how those outside were looking towards them with so doubt and confusion, considering theirs was the least damaged container that had arrived so far.
"Guys, just a heads up," said Lex, speaking to the other two using his spirit sense. "Don't use your real nas here, don't reveal our background, and if anyone asks why we're here, just say that we were sponsored by the bank. I expect there to be a lot of political intrigue in an event as large as this, and we should try to avoid becoming unwitting victims of a much larger ga. It would also be best to avoid getting the Inn involved in so kind of conflict."
"So are you suggesting that we should avoid causing a scene? What if we're attacked?" Velma asked.
"No, you misunderstand. We're on vacation. There's no need to restrain yourselves - just keep your identities hidden. As for being found out through other ans, that won't be a problem."
Lex handed the two a seemingly plain card and asked them to keep it in their pockets, but the mont the two saw what it was, they were stunned. It was the Innkeeper's business card. If energy was channeled into it, it would summon a projection of the Innkeeper!
Of course, that's not why Lex gave it to them. Instead, he intended to use the aura of a Dao Lord embedded within those cards to act as a sort of anti-divination charm.
Lex's intentions were good. Unfortunately, he had never hung out with Gerard and Velma, or really any Inn worker, outside of the Inn. That's why he didn't know that the usual personality they showed within the Inn carried a lot of restraint, since the prestige of the Inn could not be hard in any way, especially due to their actions!
But now they were outside of the Inn… with their identities hidden, and with a powerful anti-divination item on their person, allowing them to act as they pleased. In fact, even Gerard and Velma did not know that they had been acting reservedly, for that was their norm. But now that they had the silent permission of the Innkeeper to act freely, a flicker of mischievousness that had always remained hidden suddenly showed itself.
"Is there anything else to watch out for?" Velma asked hesitantly, as if asking the rules they needed to obey while hiding their identity.
"Don't purposefully provoke anyone, especially if they're stronger than you, but also don't back down if sothing happens. After the previous incident, if there's one thing I can guarantee, it's that the bank will never let us be in danger again until the event is over. It has beco a matter of pride and identity for them."
A flicker passed through Velma's eyes. So not only did she have permission to do what she wanted… even her safety was guaranteed?
She could not help but smile.
