Origin Realm, Oblivio Galaxy, Ruins of New Luirel
While Lex was undergoing his tribulation, Marlo was sitting before a massive table of food, much of it already devoured and much of it waiting for his personal attention, yet the muscle giant was not eating. Instead, he was looking oddly at the lady in front of him.
"Can I help you?" Marlo asked, not comnting on the oddness of the situation. In truth, they were in a war zone, so the fact that he was sitting and eating a feast was already abnormal.
But, as an abnormal man, with a son just as abnormal, and students who would quite possibly be the protagonists of many anis in the future, it was alright if he paused between the slaughter of war to feast. Of course, he was the only Nascent soul cultivator who had the guts to enter an all Earth Immortal battlefield, but then again, he was strong enough to do so, so no one stopped him.
None of that changed the fact that being looked at by a young lady with such a confused expression was slightly distracting even for him.
"Yeah. Is your na Marlo Musclehead?" Giselle asked as she pulled out Lex's letter and read the na on the envelope.
Marlo chuckled. That was hardly an original nickna, but it did bring back fond mories. Lately, he had been so caught up in matters of war or the Tourney that he barely had any ti to socialise - not that he was complaining. His harvest during these days was not small.
"I suppose you can call that. How can I help you?" Marlo, observing the lady closely. She had no aura at all, which is what made her seem all the more dangerous.
"I have a letter for you from one of your students, as well as a ssage for your son. Here, you can read the letter yourself. As for your son, I can see he's got himself and his team surrounded by enemies. Is he using himself as bait for sothing? He's awfully calm for soone in so much trouble."
The battle Giselle was talking about was nowhere nearby, but it was not surprising she could see it. This was a proper war among immortals - not the kind that Lex fought. A normal war between immortals would last weeks if not months if it was a quick one because of how genuinely difficult it was to kill them.
Only freaks like Lex could go around casually killing immortals left and right.
"He has a bad habit of doing that, but he always cos out alive so I haven't really been able to teach him to be more cautious. He's always very confident, but he's never been wrong before so it's hard to prove my point about always having a backup plan," said Marla as he grabbed the letter and probed it.
Unsurprisingly, he could not see through the envelope, although he imdiately recognized the aura on the envelope. It was Lex.
He hadn't thought about Lex in a long ti. Marlo couldn't help but wonder why Lex had written him a letter.
"Well, if you don't mind, I'll just wait here for your son to deliver the ssage. I'm not exactly fond of getting myself caught up in unnecessary trouble," Giselle said as she sat down on a boulder near Marlo.
Marlo didn't mind. Instead, he opened the letter to read what Lex had written about.
Hey Marlo,
I hope you're well as you're reading this. Actually, I know you're well as you're reading this. After all, you're sitting and feasting, enjoying a nice al while your son plays around as a hero and your wife plays the role of a dutiful wife waiting for you at ho. Do you know how I know this? A simple divination. It's very easy to look into your life. Want proof? The Greenwillow Rabbit that you just ate is giving you indigestion because humans cannot digest their at, but you ate it anyway thinking it was a Greenburrow Rabbit. If you want, you can look into this. It won't take long.
Marlo paused, and turned to look at the food he had eaten. Honestly, as a Nascent Soul cultivator, he didn't mind a little indigestion, although it was strange he got it in the first place. The origin of the at explained why he was feeling that way to begin with.
Marlo smirked instead of being offended by Lex's straightforward words. That's the kind of man he was anyway - up front and straightforward. What was even the point of wasting ti dressing up words as sothing they weren't?
Now he was really curious about why Lex had written him the letter, so he continued to read.
Once, I ca to you to learn about defense. Back then, the cultivation world was new and dangerous, and you were strong and well connected. You were Marlo Hanson Bravi III - you faced death and fought through. You were fearless and defiant, unwilling to work for anyone else, unwilling to kneel. Once, you were soone I looked up to.
But now look at you. Do not think I am insulting you, I am rely expressing my disappointnt. You had more presence as a Golden Core cultivator than you've ever had as a Nascent Soul cultivator. Is this the path you saw for yourself? Is this the future you wanted? To be lazily eating a feast while soone else fights during a war?
Marlo raised an eyebrow, genuinely quite surprised at how harsh Lex was being towards him. It wasn't like his feelings were hurt or sothing reading just a few critical lines - it was that such a letter did not really align with his understanding of Lex.
Lex, his student from back then, was smart and insightful. Everything he did had a purpose, and he wouldn't make critical decisions based on emotions. So why was he being so emotional about Marlo? It wasn't really a cri to enjoy a al. He kept reading.
I normally would not care to criticise you, nor would I care how you lived your life - if only I hadn't foreseen your death.
