Lex sat in his chair, thinking about so things. Specifically, he pondered over the peculiarities of his current predicant, testing to see if he could find any indication that any one of the hundred Dao Lords he had recently t had targeted him in any way.
Why was he so protective of Almira? Well, it was for a number of reasons. Anita and Qawain had been his workers for a long ti, and over the years they had built a very good relationship with one another.
Anita and Qawain had helped him defend the Inn ti and ti again, not to ntion that they had played an integral role in running the Inn. Lex had even learned a bit about swords from Qawain. When they adopted the baby Cthulhu, they beca the first parents among the Inn workers, and so naturally that created added to their relationship.
When Anita finally gave birth to Almira, giving birth to a baby human girl despite being a Lich herself, she naturally received a trendous amount of love, care and attention from everyone who had a close connection to Anita. Lex, in particular, enjoyed spoiling her. Thus, his protective feelings for her were completely natural, and didn't show any signs of being tampered with. In the back of his mind, he couldn't help but wonder if he was even capable of detecting a Dao Lord's interference. Perhaps he'd look at sothing illogical directly, and still ignore it. But that did not an he could stop looking. Maybe it wasn't a Dao Lord interfering with him - maybe there was sothing else.
Lex turned his mind towards the system. Could it be he was facing interference from a system user? Or could it be that Anita was being targeted by a system user? That was doubtful. As long as a system was involved, his instincts would not respond. The only way a system user could be involved was if they didn't use their system in targeting him or Anita, which wouldn't really make sense.
Could it be that the Midnight Inn was being targeted? That was much more likely. With Wu Kong gone, the Inn supposedly had two other Dao Lords protecting it - the Innkeeper and Mary. However, in truth there were none. But at the sa ti, this was also unlikely.
It wasn't because of the impression the Innkeeper made during the Tea Party. Rather, it was because Lex's instincts shouldn't be able to detect things at the Dao level. Could developing a Dao Body have changed that?
None of these considerations solved his imdiate problem. What could the problem be?
Lex turned his attention towards Obsidian. He'd been using that as a gathering place for system users, but recently its use had dropped a lot - mainly because system users couldn't co and go conveniently anymore.
Thus, he added a new service within the rewards in Obsidian, which was the right to use taverns to co and go to the Inn, and use a secret key to transfer from the Midnight Inn to Obsidian.
Adding small, convenient rewards like this was a way for Lex to harvest their reward points. After all, he could not let them accumulate too much or he'd have to give them the ultimate reward of upgrading their systems!
That was sothing beyond his ans. He could only achieve that by feeding their system another system. Fortunately, when he put such a reward on the board, he knew that he wouldn't let anyone accumulate enough points to actually get such a reward until he was ready to hand it out.
All of that was besides the point. He wondered if any of the system users in Obsidian were responsible for causing him problems. It was possible - systems were unpredictable. But he doubted it. They were too weak. He'd scanned the bodies and souls of almost all Obsidian mbers to check the strength of their systems, and none of them were even close to his own.
While Lex was pondering these questions, Anita finally arrived back at the Midnight Inn. Although she wished to directly enter the Dream realm and bypass the Inn altogether - she was much too concerned about her husband and child she could not.
Although the Cthulhu she'd adopted wished to enter the Dream realm with her to help, he was too weak to be of any help currently. At the sa ti, she'd received a ssage that the Inn had prepared a care package for her that would help her in the Dream realm and make it easier for her to find Anita and Qawain.
She didn't waste any ti. She took the care package and left. The ssage she got already told her everything that would be in it, which is why she was
prepared.
Lex had made a very special compass for her that could connect to smaller compasses he'd made for her summons.
Through the power of her summons-
Lex paused, and suddenly rembered what he'd been forgetting! He'd forgotten to summon Fenrir back to the Midnight realm after he left Arch-Heaven. That was incredibly odd. As an Immortal, he shouldn't have forgotten sothing so simple.
Oh well. Now that Lex finally rembered what he'd forgotten, he relaxed, as if so kind of burden had been shed, before once again turning his attention towards the Dream realm. He once again forgot to summon Fenrir back, almost as if there was so mystical power forcefully making him forget.
Within Arch-Heaven, Mango looked at Fenrir oddly, feeling like it had forgotten sothing. Just to be sure, it took out a fish scale and read through it, but couldn't find anything worthy of notice.
Fenrir, too, could not be bothered. He simply closed his eyes and slept. These days, the feedback it was getting from his bond to Lex was helping it grow stronger at a rapid pace, so he didn't mind hibernating for a while. What was the worst that could happen if he took a tiny nap?
