Chapter 51: Yet Another New Force Has Joined the Hunt!

Luo Li strongly suspected that he had deliberately delayed for an entire day just to squeeze more silver out of her.

Yet when they finally set out in the middle of the night, she suddenly realized...

During the day, under the scorching sun, the temperature in Blackfla River was simply too high, and the strain it placed on them was enormous.

At night, however, with the sun gone and only the heat radiating from the ground remaining, the toll on them was naturally far less.

“Oh no! I blad him again!”

“This guy... really is an Escort Master with seasoned experience. If it were anyone else, they probably would not have noticed so many little details.”

Thus, two humans and two little spirits once more rode the Scarlet Fla Scale Ox and pressed onward through the night.

The Scarlet Fla Scale Ox was fighting for its life now.

Even at the risk of having all four of its legs roasted alive, it still carried them step by step through the most brutally hot central region of Blackfla River.

It helped that it had been born with thick hide and astonishing defenses.

Had it been any more delicate great fiend, it likely would not have made it safely across this terrifying death zone, where the surface temperature reached well over one hundred degrees.

Back then, it was precisely because Chen Guan had taken a liking to that hide, which ordinary weapons could not pierce, that he had shown rcy and spared its life.

...

The following morning.

When the first scorching ray of sunlight fell upon the earth, Chen Guan glanced behind them. He could sense danger approaching, yet that danger still had not erupted.

After thinking it over, he found another concealed cave.

He distributed the last three gourds of water he had scraped together to the two little spirits.

Yet for them, that small amount of water was no more than a drop in the bucket, barely enough to keep a thread of life in them.

At this point, the green leaves covering the two little tree spirits had already fallen away completely. Their bare bark was dry and cracked, making them look like two dead branches ready to snap at any mont.

And yet, even in such a state, neither of them had uttered a single complaint or cried out from exhaustion along the way.

Chen Guan looked at the two little tree spirits hugging each other tightly and constantly staring back in the direction from which they had co, his expression sowhat complicated.

He knew that those two little ones had probably already sensed sothing.

“Demons have their demon path, n have their human road. Life and death are decreed by fate; all of it is Heaven’s design.”

“Even if one’s heart is filled with ten thousand unwilling thoughts, in the end, one cannot withstand the turning of Heavenly Dao.”

Chen Guan let out a quiet sigh in his heart.

This was only Blackfla River. As for the environnt within the Mist-Shrouded Forest ahead, that remained entirely unknown.

At this rate, those two little ones would never make it to Peach Blossom Hollow.

“It seems I’ll have to think of so other thod.”

Yet at that very mont, his brows suddenly lifted, and his sharp gaze instantly shot toward the Horse-Cleaving Saber planted at the cave entrance!

Buzz, buzz, buzz!

That saber, which had been quiet for half the day, now seed as though it had been fitted with so strange motor. The entire blade was trembling violently, letting out one urgent hum after another!

Luo Li rose to her feet, all trace of her usual carefree expression gone, and slowly drew the short sword at her waist.

No matter how muddleheaded she normally was, even she knew now that sothing was wrong.

All along the journey, Chen Guan had constantly been sticking that Horse-Cleaving Saber into the ground for no apparent reason. It clearly was not for show, but rather to serve as a form of warning.

And now that the blade was trembling more violently than ever before, there was only one explanation—danger was already upon them.

“So it’s finally willing to show itself?”

The corner of Chen Guan’s mouth curled upward. Then he said in warning, “You lot stay here. Don’t move.”

Leaving those words behind, Chen Guan slowly strode out of the cave.

As he passed, he pulled the still-humming Horse-Cleaving Saber out of the ground and slung it over his shoulder, then stepped onto the dead-black scorched earth outside.

The sun had only just risen, and its light fell across the side of his face, carving out a profile as cold and hard as if chiseled by blade and axe.

It also illuminated the killing intent wrapped around his entire body.

Whoosh!

A black shadow darted soundlessly out from the grove of scorched-black trees in the distance, dropping like a ghost three zhang in front of him.

It was a man in black, eight feet tall, with a face covering wrapped around his head so that only a pair of pitch-black eyes showed. In his hand was a black longsword, one that radiated a chilling and deadly cold light.

The Scarlet Fla Scale Ox, standing between the two n, stared with its lantern-sized eyes. It first glanced at the unexpected intruder, then turned its head to look at Chen Guan, whose face remained expressionless.

After that, it wisely lowered its head again and quietly edged backward, trying its best to reduce its own sense of existence.

“Since you’re already here, there’s no need to keep hiding. All of you, co out.”

Chen Guan rely swept a glance over the man in black, then shifted his gaze toward the grove of dead black trees behind him and spoke indifferently.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

The mont his words fell, dozens of black-clad figures dressed the sa way burst out of that dead-black grove like birds returning to the nest. One after another, they landed soundlessly around Chen Guan, sealing off the cave completely.

“Your Excellency has sharp eyes indeed.”

The leader spoke again, his voice low and clipped, utterly devoid of emotion.

Chen Guan said nothing. His gaze moved calmly across the black-clad n one by one.

From them, he sensed an aura of iron-blooded slaughter.

That particular bearing was not sothing common jianghu drifters could possess. It only ever appeared in one sort of place—a disciplined organization.

But it was not an assassin organization.

Because the aura clinging to them was one forged by crawling through mountains of corpses and seas of blood, tempered through countless baptisms of slaughter.

“Brother Chen!”

Luo Li erged from the cave holding her short sword, her expression complicated, as though she wanted to say sothing yet did not know how to begin.

Chen Guan pulled her behind him with one hand, then finally addressed the black-clad leader before him.

“So early in the morning, and you block my cave entrance with no manners at all. Did you co all this way just to complint ?”

“Of course not.”

The black-clad leader spoke again. After studying Chen Guan from head to toe, clearly sowhat wary of him, he finally said, “We know that Your Excellency is an Escort Master, one who takes money to do a job and sees people safely ho.”

“Since we are all in the business of making deals, how about this? Na your price, take the money, and turn around and leave. Hand over the little girl behind you to us. How does that sound?”

Luo Li’s little face instantly turned deathly pale. She unconsciously tightened her grip on her short sword and bit down hard on her lip without speaking.

Yet her gaze never once left Chen Guan’s back, as though she were carefully observing his attitude.

Because she knew all too well that this man lived for money...

“You are not qualified to discuss business with .”

Chen Guan’s voice remained calm, but his gaze passed over the black-clad man before him and looked toward sowhere farther away.

“Co out.”

The mont he said that, the leading black-clad man’s heart jolted violently!

Clearly, Chen Guan’s alertness had far exceeded his expectations.

“Hehe... what keen perception you have, young gentleman.”

A woman’s laugh, soft and boneless and steeped in allure, drifted over from behind a huge rock wall not far away.

A mont later, a woman in a fire-red gown erged slowly, her figure swaying like a water snake.

A fresh, delicate flower was tucked askew in her hair. One jade-white finger toyed lazily with a strand of hair at her temple as her gaze slid up and down Chen Guan’s body.

The mont Luo Li’s eyes fell upon this woman in red, every warning bell in her heart began to scream.
