Chapter 70: And You Think You Can Go to Great Zhou and Raise a Rebellion Like This?

“You’d have to think with your ass not to figure it out. That aunt of yours, Su Yue, must have realized that Xi’er failed to stop us.”

“She probably decided to leak your identity to Great Yun in hopes of using their hand to create so kind of opening.”

That was what he said, but the more Chen Guan thought about Su Yue, the less he could understand that woman.

The most likely reason for her trying to assassinate Luo Li had originally been that she had been bought over by the emperor of Great Zhou.

But if that were truly the case, then she should never have leaked this matter to the Great Yun Imperial Dynasty. Family disgrace was not ant for outsiders. The less others could exploit it, the better.

And yet she had done exactly that.

“However,” Luo Li suddenly said, her voice cold to the bone, “it seems she was bound to be disappointed.”

“Though Great Yun and Great Zhou have been forced onto the sa boat because of their common enemy—demons, fiends, uncanny beings, and dark spirits—”

“under the surface, the two nations are set against each other because of cultivation resources, heavenly treasures, population, and even things as vague as fortune itself.”

“On the surface, they are allies. In truth, each is secretly wishing for the other to collapse sooner.”

She gave a cold snort, then continued, “Now that Great Zhou is about to descend into internal chaos, Great Yun is probably delighted. Why would they be foolish enough to wade into this muddy ss?”

She paused, glanced at Chen Guan, and then sighed.

“After all, every bit the other side weakens is one bit more they themselves can gain. In this devouring age, one extra bit of strength ans one extra bit of security.”

“So-called friendship becos less than dogshit in the face of absolute power.”

“Hiss...”

After hearing that, Chen Guan turned and looked at the little girl beside him in surprise.

Those were not the insights or breadth of mind that an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl could possess.

To be fair, this little brat really did have a few traces of a ruler’s vision.

One had to know that in this chaotic age, even among the so-called daughters of wealthy families, ninety-nine out of a hundred had never even stepped outside the county in which they were born.

Their understanding of the world extended no farther than the scattered fragnts written in books.

And yet this troubleso girl, so young, could already see the shape of the world so clearly.

That was not rely because that dead old man Su Jingyan had raised her as a future sovereign. More than that, it was because she herself possessed the natural talent of one.

After all, the world had no shortage of princes and princesses. Which of them had not studied the arts of rulership from childhood?

But among them, there truly were not many who, at her age, could already see the overall configuration of the realm so clearly.

Especially given that she had grown up deep in the mountains.

No wonder Su Yue had tried so desperately to stop her from going to Great Zhou. This troubleso girl really was a scourge.

“W-Why are you looking at like that?”

Luo Li grew faintly uneasy beneath his fixed stare, and her pretty face could not help reddening a little.

In truth, she had spoken on purpose. She simply did not want him looking down on her.

Chen Guan stroked his chin and nodded solemnly. “To be fair, you really do have a few traits fit for an emperor.”

“Of course I do!”

Luo Li imdiately lifted her proud little chin, her eyes gleaming with longing.

“If not for that dog emperor of Great Zhou usurping power and seizing the throne, I, Luo Li, would surely have opened an age of everlasting peace for this world and freed the common people from hunger and cold!”

She turned her head and stared directly at Chen Guan with shining eyes.

“Brother Chen, will you help ? If you are willing, whatever you want, I can give it to you!”

“Hey, hey, wake up already.”

Chen Guan reached out and lightly smacked her smooth forehead.

“It’s broad daylight. How are you still sleep-talking so nicely?”

“You...!”

Luo Li flushed bright red with anger, her almond eyes widening in fury.

Zhao Lei, riding at the front, had not heard their muttered exchange clearly. But with his Profound Passage Realm cultivation, he still managed to catch fragnts like “that dog emperor of Great Zhou” and “usurping power and seizing the throne.”

The words made his heart pound in terror.

These two young people were far too bold!

To speak so recklessly about such treasonous matters right in front of soldiers of Great Yun—it was madness!

He hurriedly pretended not to hear a thing and signaled to the n behind him to avert their eyes and minds, lest those words leak out and bring deadly disaster upon them all.

But the more he tried not to listen, the more the scattered phrases seed to force their way into his ears.

Zhao Lei decided this could not continue. With a wave of his hand, he lashed the horse beneath him hard, and the entire convoy abruptly accelerated.

The sooner he got these two “disasters” out of Great Yun, the safer he would be!

...

The group left the northern gate, and the view before them imdiately opened wide.

They did not stop for a mont. Driving their horses hard, they raced toward the horizon.

After most of a day’s hard travel, they finally arrived before a broad moat.

That river was the natural border separating Great Yun and Great Zhou. The mighty pass spanning it was known as Zhenbei Pass.

With Chen Guan and Luo Li in tow, Zhao Lei passed unhindered through the checkpoint ahead and ca to a massive stone bridge.

On this side of the bridge stood row upon row of Great Yun’s black-armored troops in neat formation.

On the opposite side were row upon row of soldiers clad in silver armor, spears in hand.

Those n belonged to Great Zhou’s Dragon-Soaring Army.

The mont Luo Li saw the silver armor she had only ever read about in books, her body went rigid.

Chen Guan shot her an irritated glance and said in a low voice, “And you think you can go to Great Zhou and raise a rebellion looking like that?”

“You may as well carve the words ‘I’m a rebel’ right onto your face.”

Luo Li imdiately retorted, “I... I’m itchy all over. I’m uncomfortable!”

That was not entirely an excuse.

The two of them had been rushing about for more than half a month, living on the road through wind and rain.

Their clothes were not yet reduced to rags, but the fine dress Luo Li had once worn had long since been snagged and torn by branches and thorns until it was ripped here and ripped there.

Now it was full of tears and holes. Looking that bedraggled, it was impossible not to attract close scrutiny. After all, who went to visit relatives dressed like that?

“All right. You don’t need to worry.”

Chen Guan offered that brief reassurance and then ignored her.

Zhao Lei personally led them onto the broad bridge and, without the slightest hesitation, cut the line and headed straight toward the silver-armored troops on the opposite side.

Upon reaching them, Zhao Lei very familiarly cupped his fists to one of the officers leading the Great Zhou troops.

“Captain Wang! Long ti no see! This young lady is the friend of a distant relative of mine. She is heading into Great Zhou to visit acquaintances. I hope you can show a little kindness, old brother.”

As he spoke, he turned a hand, and a heavy silver pouch silently changed hands.

Yet Captain Wang did not so much as glance at the money pouch. Instead, his gaze fell directly upon Chen Guan and Luo Li.

Then, without warning, his brows lifted, and he gave Zhao Lei a cold sneer.

“Zhao Lei! What kind of man do you take this captain for? Do you think I can simply be bought off like that?”

“n! Seize them for !!”

The instant his voice fell—Clang!

A perfectly synchronized chorus of steel rang through the pass.

Several dozen soldiers drew the sabers at their waists on the spot and surged forward murderously, surrounding Chen Guan and Luo Li from all sides.
