...

Lady Ravyn doesn’t know what made Rex so sure about that.

He was attacked earlier, yes, but with his overwhelming display of strength, it’s unlikely that Lucen would even dare to co back. It was a one-sided battle, and going in for a second round would be very unwise on his part.

But Rex said that Lucen would attack with such conviction.

It was like he could see into the future.

Although she was perplexed as to what Rex’s purpose was for keeping her here, she now has a guess.

’Does he want to be an eyewitness?’

Rex was assuming that her brother Lucen would co back to kill him again, as today would be his only chance to do that, so he must’ve told her to stay because he wanted soone to back up his claim. His words wouldn’t hold up in front of Count Dara.

He was, after all, a usurper despite his status as a knight and also Princess Davina’s fiancé.

If Lady Ravyn also backed him up, then nobody could refute.

’But that is if Lucen really ca to attack again,’ Lady Ravyn thought, eyes narrowing at Rex, who was already relaxing on the sofa with his eyes closed. ’Even if people ca to attack him, that doesn’t an they were sent by Lucen, too. How is he going to prove that?’

Regardless, seeing how nonchalant he was, it seed should know soon enough.

For the next half an hour, the room was silent.

Lady Ravyn felt her eyelids becoming heavier by the minute.

Like all Spirits that were influenced by the Black Rift, she, too, needed to sleep more than Humans.

It was becoming harder and harder to stay away.

But knowing what could potentially happen tonight, Lady Ravyn opted to ditate and wait a few more hours to make sure Rex was wrong. At the hour-mark, she opened her eyes—and stared at Rex, sensing that sothing about him had changed.

’What happened to him?’

Lady Ravyn was confused.

Earlier, though Rex had his eyes closed, she could feel that his senses were present.

But now, his presence has suddenly disappeared.

’It’s not that he’s asleep. Sohow, it feels like he wasn’t here anymore, like his soul disappeared.’

Unbeknownst to Lady Ravenna, the mont Rex conditioned his physical body to focus on his wounds, he imdiately went back to the Banished Realm. His soul left his spirit body—and was transferred to that realm.

He wanted to accompany Nivellen and make sure that she’s fine.

Even though Rex seed vulnerable right now, he wasn’t.

Lady Ravyn could feel it in her bones that any malicious intent or movent would be sensed.

It might look like she could kill him easily right now, but in reality, she couldn’t.

’I tried killing him with the others, and yet he didn’t look at with real animosity like he did to Lucen,’ Lady Ravyn thought, looking at Rex’s face as if she was trying to read his mind. ’Is it because I couldn’t pose any threat to him? Because I’m too weak?’

Rex would’ve nodded if he had heard what was inside Lady Ravyn’s mind.

He doesn’t need to kill her and the other noblewon involved since none of them posed a threat.

So harmless that even they couldn’t trigger the System to issue a killing intent quest.

Normally, Rex would’ve killed them too for daring to try to kill him.

But in his condition, and the territory he was in, there’s no need to do that when he doesn’t have to.

At the second-hour mark, Lady Ravyn’s ditation was disturbed again.

She slowly opened her eyes, regulating her life energy flow inside her for a few more cycles before she dispersed it. As soon as she focused on the room, she could instantly feel the inexplicable change in the air that bothered her.

Unlike before, there was a tense chill in the air.

All mbers of the House of Dara have the talent to awaken Soul Artifact—and power that is intimately close with the wind. Lady Ravyn is sensitive to the change in the wind, and she could tell that bad things are brooding in the background.

But she didn’t want to jump to a conclusion.

Lady Ravyn summoned her Soul Artifact, turning her eyes into two spheres of wind.

She then looked through the wall behind her.

’A few people are approaching,’ She thought, seeing the break of wind a few hundred ters away, ’Six people are approaching, and they are not the guards. Their footsteps are light and their presence is even lighter. I can barely see them, even right now. Experts. Judging from the way they move, I can assu there’s another one who could hide from .’

At that realization, Lady Ravyn exhaled lightly.

’Lord Rex is right all along...’ She bit her lower lip reluctantly. ’But is it really Lucen who sent them?’

Naturally, Lady Ravyn wanted to inform Rex.

But he was already too late.

"Are you familiar with my kind, Lady Ravyn?"

Lady Ravyn turned to look at Rex and found him still sitting in the sa position.

His eyes remained closed, seemingly undeterred.

"I’m not familiar with whether Spirits ever has the need to enter the Mortal Realm, so I’m curious."

"Lord Rex, I don’t think this is the ti to chat... People are coming."

"I know."

’He knew? How?’

"In the Mortal Realm, I’m what they called a Werewolf," Rex said, still unmoving as if he didn’t care that enemies were approaching. "I’m a Human too, but that’s besides the point. A Werewolf is known to be the ruler of the night, and our powers reflected that."

"Yes, I’m aware," Lady Ravyn nodded, deciding to see where Rex was going with this. "As long as the moon shines, a Werewolf is unbeatable, or so I’ve heard."

"In that case, you should also know these about Werewolves," Rex said, his tone low but heavy—with confidence. "Our vision is sharp enough to catch the faintest twitch of prey, our taste so refined we can tell how long ago the blood was spilled, our touch feels the breath of movent, our sll reaches miles, and our hearing can catch the tremor of a heartbeat through the skin."

He paused, then slowly opened his eyes—their crimson glow fixated on Lady Ravyn.

"But that’s not all for ," His voice dropped, almost a growl that ca from the tremble of the throat. "I also have a sixth sense, one that feels what none of the five senses could. Even when the unseen hides beyond sigh, sound, or scent... I can still feel it."

Lady Ravyn’s brows dipped into a frown.

Even though she was at a loss, she could feel that Rex was implying sothing.

It was especially so when what followed after he said those words was a thick, suffocating silence.

One heartbeat.

Two heartbeats.

And then, her eyes snapped to the side, frowning at the sound of a faint creak.

Swoosh!

Her eyes widened when the wind changed.

Lady Ravyn sensed the air break in the shape of a dashing figure.

As she blinked, Rex vanished from his spot.

It happened so fast that she couldn’t even feel the change in the air before it happened.

Brak!

Shocked, she abruptly stood up in shock and then looked around the room in search of Rex.

Nobody was inside the room except for her.

But to the side, the door was swung wide open, like soone had rushed out from there.

Lady Ravyn stood in utter confusion; she didn’t know what had happened and didn’t know what she should do right now. Her mind was overloaded by questions that all she could do was stand there, eyes fixated on the door.

Soon, the sound of footsteps seeped into her ears.

It was coming from the corridor outside the room.

And alongside it, she could also hear the sound of wet gargling and the scent of blood.

Once the origin of the sound appeared, Lady Ravyn sucked in a cold breath.

Rex stepped back into the room.

Nothing about him changed other than the blood splatter on his face, and also the murderous intent that coated his entire face. Behind him, he was dragging a bloodied figure by the neck—the person whose blood splatter on his face belonged to.

It was an assassin.

A real one this ti, seeing that he has an Eternal Spirit 1 rank power.

More than that, even though the assassin had been reduced to a cripple by Rex—both legs shattered and his life energy flow completely severed—Lady Ravyn noticed sothing unsettling. Parts of his body were fading, turning invisible, and in that instant, she realized what had truly happened.

’H-He... He sensed the assassin the mont it stepped into the room?’

Lady Ravyn sucked in a cold breath.

Sohow, the assassin managed to get inside the room, bypassing the guards and also the restrictions of the residence. He did so chillingly untraceable that even Lady Ravyn, with her Soul Artifact active, could not sense the person at all.

Even so, Rex, who relied solely on his normal senses, could find this assassin easily.

And he could even strike first before the assassin could do anything.

Lady Ravyn stared in disbelief as Rex laid the crippled assassin gently onto the sofa across from her.

He did it calmly, too calmly, as if he didn’t want to hurt the assassin.

For a mont, Lady Ravyn’s eyes and the assassin’s t, and in that silent exchange, the two of them realized how scary Rex was. Coming here to attack him, to test him because of his background, it was all a mistake.

Both ca with the intention to kill Rex.

However, it beca clear now that from the very start, Rex wasn’t their prey.

On the contrary, they were Rex’s prey.

"Since you, the strongest one out of them all, were here, I guess the others outside are your underlings stationed to draw the attention from the guards away once you successfully killed , so that you could escape. "Rex looked out the window calmly, staring at the grouped stat windows in the buildings beside his residence. "It’s a decent plan."

Just then, Lady Ravyn noticed the assassin taking sothing out of his mouth.

And then, he crushed it with his teeth.

"Lord Rex, I think he’s informing the assassins outside that he failed!" Lady Ravyn inford.

Rex wasn’t fazed by this.

He already scanned the assassin and knew about the item hidden in the assassin’s mouth.

If he didn’t want the assassins to inform the others, then he would’ve taken the item out.

But he didn’t.

"No need to worry about that," Rex looked to the windows of the building—where the assassins were hiding, waiting for any reaction. "All I need to handle this attempt on is for them to look at . And it’s going to happen right about... now."

Rex’s eyes t with one assassin who peeked from the window.

His lips curled into a smile as he activated his new ability, causing his eyes to flash red.

Once he did that, he turned and walked back to the sofa, "It’s finished."

Even though the assassin was trained to keep his composure, no matter the situation, seeing how relaxed Rex was made him feel uneasy. The other assassins should be fine as they could simply leave—since the mission failed, and killing Rex tonight will be impossible.

But Rex acted as if he had handled the other assassins perfectly, and it was unnerving.

Lady Ravyn was also confused.

From her perspective, Rex didn’t seem to do anything but look out the window.

And sohow, he claid that the situation was handled? How?

Curiously, Lady Ravyn walked towards the window—and looked in the direction where Rex was looking earlier. She scanned the building across the street and sucked in a cold breath when she noticed blood splattering onto the window.

She could tell that the other assassins should be there.

But she didn’t know how Rex managed to do that.

From the looks of it, the assassins seed to be fighting one another, and that’s extrely odd.

’W-What did he do...?’ She turned to look at Rex as if he were a monster.
