This... This was supposed to be impossible.

Rex stared at the gleaming red sheen in absolute surprise and horror.

Ever since the attack led by the Lunirich God of the Yule Moon, ddling with the mortals directly, the Lunirich Gods have been suffering from the repercussions. It was a reckless—and desperate attack, one that was solely aid at killing Rex.

All who participated knew the risks.

It wasn’t in the place of beings like them to directly ddle with mortals.

And now that it ended in an ultimate failure, they shouldn’t be able to use their powers anymore.

Sothing about the rules of the world.

Gods descending to the realm to specifically kill a figure was unimaginably unfair, and the world would not allow any God to regularly do that. So, once Rex survived the attack, he should be in the clear for a few dozen years.

No chance the Lunirich Gods could ddle with him in the near future.

It was one of the reasons why Rex didn’t consider the Lunirich Gods to be a threat anymore.

At least not now.

But he was wrong.

Swoosh—!

Rex was in trouble, and he knew it.

He gritted his teeth, pouring all his focus and power into the new organ within him. Yet the sword, now empowered by the Blood Moon, continued to carve through the invisible hold. It took inch by inch with deliberate slowness, like it was showing Rex that he wasn’t safe.

And what made it worse was the sheer helplessness of his position.

Right now, he couldn’t move from his spot; he couldn’t evade.

He could only stand and strain as the blade pressed closer and closer.

"Morgana!" Rex roared, snarling at the empress with anger. "You can’t be doing this! Think about your people! If you kill ... Your empire will fall!"

"Just worry about yourself!" Empress Morgana retorted with the sa energy. "You need to die!"

Swoosh—!

Rex watched the blade inching closer faster, nearing his hands already in a matter of seconds.

It contained too much energy, one that could only belong to a God.

And his Blank state, coupled with his Divinity, isn’t high enough to resist this rampaging energy.

Clang—!

Suddenly, High Priestess Alana ca and helped Rex, using her own power to fight back the incoming sword. She tried to attack Empress Morgana earlier, trying to knock her away—but the red sheen from the sword rendered her attack useless.

As if it could absorb any attack that ca Empress Morgana’s way.

All she can do right now is resist the attack along with Rex.

"You’ve had a lot of enemies," Empress Morgana bead with a smirk. "And that’s your downfall!"

"Stop!" Rex hissed in pain when the sword touched his claws, radiating imnse power that made him feel like his claws were going to shatter at any mont. "If you’re a true Angel, this is not your way! Do good as the First Light wanted! Accepting another God’s power is a shaful act!"

"I don’t care..." Empress Morgana whispered hauntingly.

And with a deep breath, she pushed harder, swatting the invisible force entirely.

Now, the sword was clashing directly with Rex’s claws and High Priestess Alana’s sunlight.

"Sir Rex! We need to avo—?!"

Before High Priestess Alana could finish her sentence, the red sheen blood like a flower and turned the air around them heavy. Even though his Blank state’s power was shattered, he couldn’t move out of the way easily because of this dense air.

That includes High Priestess Alana.

Both were trapped inside this vacuum, waiting for the sword to tear them in half.

I don’t think I can take this.

Rex looked at the lustrous sword filled with the Blood Moon’s power.

I’ve exhausted all my options.

He strained his recently healed body to the limit, doing his best to endure this attack or at least parry it.

But his efforts ant nothing.

Amanir... Right, Amanir!

Rex glanced to the side without turning, hoping to see that Amanir had successfully opened the chest. He needed it right now—or he would fail Nivellen. The Phoenix Feather must be in his hands today. He needs it right now.

But as he looked around, there was no sign of Amanir anywhere.

And before he could find Amanir properly, his claws shattered.

Crack—!

A series of loud, bone-snapping sounds resounded as each one of his claws shattered.

"I sacrifice you in the na of the Archangel of Knives..." Empress Morgana uttered as she pressed.

Her arms bulged with muscles as she pushed the sword with all her might.

"Sir Rex!"

Crash—!

Like a weight train, the sword struck.

A thunderclap of force erupted from the point of impact, swallowing all other sound.

Rex couldn’t properly grasp what happened, only a brutal, red-shocked instant, and then he was gone.

He wasn’t thrown; he was blasted away.

Everything around him vanished into a streaking blur, the edges of his vision sared in a reddish tinge.

A vacuum-like boom chased him as the air itself was unable to fill the space he left behind. In the next instant, the light fled—and he was plunged into the consuming darkness of the Black Rift, still moving at a soul-rending speed.

Blood welled hot in his throat as he travelled.

Rex felt more than saw the distant, seismic shudders as he clipped through stone mountains, unseen in the dark, parted before him like brittle cliffs before a teor. Nothing could stop his montum—as he slamd into multiple mountains and hills across the way.

Countless notifications, red instead of blue, flooded his vision.

Each one warned him of the damage that was done to his body.

aningless notifications, as he could feel every pain that his body was suffering from directly.

Only then, after an eternity of violent motion, did the world begin to reclaim him. His velocity slowly bed away—into a sickening, spinning drag. Rex tumbled end over end, a ragdoll in the void, before his body crashed down in a series of bone-snapping impacts.

Once the montum finally died, he screeched across the ground hard.

His left arm was twisted the wrong way, and the recently healed wounds were opened once again.

Perhaps because of the adrenaline in him, or the new organ inside him, Rex still has the strength to stand back up again despite every nerve screaming at him to stop. The pain didn’t hinder him at all as his eyes glowed bright orange, staring into the distance, at the Tomb of Heroes that couldn’t be seen anymore.

Rex gripped Stelios’ head that was still clutched in his hand and lifted it up.

ROAR—!

Half of his face tried shifting to his Werewolf form as he let out an imposing roar.

It was almost like a declaration that he still survived, and the Archangel of Knives was no more.

A ssage to Empress Morgana that she failed to sacrifice him for Stelios.

Rex fell to his knees the mont he ran out of breath, gasping for air as his body barely regenerated.

"Kaiser..."

A small chuckle escaped him.

His shoulders moved up and down from the chuckle as he laughed at the situation he was in.

Out of sheer frustration, he hit the ground with his only functional hand, creating a small crack.

He did it once.

"Kaiser..."

Twice.

"Kaiser...!"

And continued as his strike grew weaker and weaker with each hit.

Again, again, and again, Kaiser has been actively sabotaging every single thing he was trying to achieve, making it harder to do even the simplest task. He already climbed his way up to nobility, and then even fought the Archangel of Knives and won.

But his triumph was ruined.

It’s almost like he was never given anything easy.

Everything has to be harder than it should be, and that’s all because of the beings watching over him.

Now, he was battered, exhausted, and didn’t have what he ca to this realm for.

Nivellen.

April.

Not to ntion, the others back in the Mortal Realm.

Rex had promised them sothing, but this ruined every single promise he made.

"You kept screwing over, and over, and over again," He looked skyward, glaring unwillingly at the being beyond the clouds. The ones responsible for making everything he does miserable, "It seems you won’t stop until you’re really dead. Fuck... Fuck... Fuck!!"

It was frustrating.

He was so close to getting what he needed, and this had to happen.

Now, he couldn’t reach what he ca here for anymore.

Even if he wanted to try, there’s literally nothing he could do to instantly go back right now.

Nourishnt from devouring Stelios still shimred within him—a deep, latent energy waiting to be integrated. But it required ti for his body to absorb it. And without it, he felt that he had no strength to even stand back up again right now.

Forced to stay motionless in the consuming dark of the Black Rift.

Even though he could absorb voidal energy thanks to his Sable Physique, he’s not free from the Black Rift’s lethal influence entirely. He needs to find shelter—but with his current condition, he could even walk, much less find soplace safe.

Rex was too confident that he even let Kraken be inside Amanir.

So, he’s not immune to falling to a Voidal tamorphosis.

Then—footsteps.

His ears picked up the sound of approaching footsteps.

Slowly, very slowly, Rex turned his head—his vision swimming as he fixed a half-lidded gaze toward the approaching sound. A shadowy figure was approaching—and considering he didn’t know where he was, he needed to prepare.

It can be a voidal monster that was drawn to him.

Rex anchored his foot to stand up, but stumbled in the process, gritting his teeth hard.

He needed to stand up, or else even an Immortal Spirit rank Voidal Monster would have been enough to really finish him. But no matter how hard he tries, there’s simply no chance for him to get back up and fight again.

"It’s ..."

A familiar voice seeped through Rex’s ears.

Just then, an orb of sunlight pushed away the Black Rift, revealing who the shadowy figure was.

"A-Alana...?" Rex whispered in shock.

Not too far from him, Alana stood limply, one eye forced shut due to the blood drizzling from her forehead. But what caught Rex’s eye the most was the deep gash that sliced through Alana’s stomach, almost disemboweling her.

That wound alone told Rex everything he needed to know about that earlier exchange.

In the nick of ti, Alana must’ve got in front of him and tried helping him avoid that God-like slash.

She failed to avoid the slash completely, but at least it knocked them out of the way enough.

Had the slash landed squarely, the two of them would’ve been sliced in half.

"You didn’t leave?" Rex asked breathlessly, surprised by her action. "Why did you risk your life?"

"It... doesn’t matter," Alana stumbled forward and knelt down beside Rex.

She reached out her hand and channeled her power, providing Rex with a healing sunlight that began helping him tend his wounds faster. It barely did anything as Rex was still poisoned by enchanted pure silver, and the wounds were also still sizzling from the godly energy.

Moreover, doing this only worsened Alana’s situation even more.

"Save your strength," Rex whispered after checking with the System that she would be running out of power first before she could even heal him enough. "Heal yourself if you want to help . I’ll need you to rely on you to bring sowhere safe."

Alana coughed up blood multiple tis.

She wanted to help Rex, but her body bent from the pain.

No matter how hard she fought it, she was forced to stop moving by the pain, pressing her forehead on Rex’s shoulder for support. "I’ll heal myself—so don’t pass out or even die. I don’t know what I’ll say to the Divine Saintess if you did."

Of course, Rex wanted to tell her to relax.

To take her ti.

But as the new Scion, the one in the path to invincibility, fate will never stop testing him.

"Heads-up, Alana," Rex exhaustedly looked around. "We’re surrounded..."
