Asher eyed Lyall as he sat down fixing with a glare.
"So, he’s your servant." He spoke up.
"He’s my attendant."
"Then, you sent him with Mirielle to keep an eye on her."
I rolled my eyes before correcting him, "For protection purpose."
"He was not even strong enough to take on more than three attackers then how was he supposed to protect Mirielle?"
I smirked, "You don’t say that to the man who made you taste dust, Asher."
"Made taste dust? This man?" He pointed at Lyall accusingly and I tilted my head.
Lyall stood without any indication of being angry or irritated, donning a mask of apathy and indifference.
"Yes, this very man." I announced, "he let you take Mirielle on my command and he brought her back on my command."
Asher looked at him and then at .
"What do you..."
The comprehension seed to settle rather slowly and I feigned a yawn.
"You’re rather slow, Sir Asher. None of my people are capable of defeat, especially him," I pointed at Lyall. "They accept it only on my command."
"So, it was your plan that I take Mirielle to the Temple."
"Exactly," I smiled as he’d finally caught on.
"Why?"
"Why? Because it was my plan. I have to destroy those people who are tarnishing the na of the Saintess and the Dragons."
"Why?"
"Why? Hm... Why are you in the Temple even after the Temple indirectly killed your mother and made your life hell?" I asked.
I had made sure to not let even an ounce of sensibility stay in my tone when I asked him that question. The empathy was for Mirielle’s form, not for Ace’s.
Asher stiffened and then cursed under his breath before he looked at .
"What does my circumstances have to do with yours?"
"My motive is similar. They’ve ssed with my kin so, I should retort in so way."
"What do you an?" He asked and then his eyes widened, "Wait, is Mirielle really, Saintess Miella’s reincarnation?"
"She may be," I shrugged my shoulders and then fixed him with a cold gaze.
"But her way of dealing with the Temple and my way are different, she wants to protect as many innocents as she wants and I want to uproot the corrupt roots of the Temple, completely." I announced.
Asher eyed suspiciously, "Don’t tell you had also orchestrated the attack on the Saint?"
"I don’t attack kids," I said, "only if they’re innocent and redeemable."
His jaw slackened for a mont before he sneered at , "You’re a Devil!"
My blood sizzled and a growl rumbled deep in my chest making snap at him, "Don’t put in the sa class as those degraded bitches,"
I closed my eyes for a mont calming myself down and inhaled and exhaled deeply before I t his eyes.
"Why... did you get out of the dungeons and put on Mirielle’s side?" He asked.
"Because I can’t put him in there," I pointed at Lyall.
"There’s only one guy in that place that I knew would protect Mirielle from the other hounds." I said fixing him with an icy gaze, "and that’s you."
"You managed to get her in the Temple then why not him as well?"
"You’re that eager to die, huh?" I mumbled and his eyebrows twitched.
"What?"
"Mirielle would have been upset if you died that’s why I arranged for you to be set free and put on his side. And instead of gratitude you’re giving this attitude." I said making him purse his lips.
There was a mont of silence between us which was filled with the chatter and the sounds of the tavern from the lower floor. No one else was allowed upstairs tonight.
"Would you like to have sothing? Or will you start talking?" I asked changing the subject and noticed as the muscle in his jaw ticked.
"Why did you send Mirielle to the Temple?" He demanded right away and I scoffed.
"Mirielle? So, you’re on first na basis now." I comnted but his expression didn’t change.
"I told you, she wanted to go so, I sent her."
His scowl remained the sa and I was a slight irked by him persistently standing against like this. It almost felt as if he was challenging my authority. He was nowhere as strong as but that face of challenge and that scowl made my blood boil.
"You assu that since I’ve sent Mirielle to the Temple, I don’t have any eyes on ears around her?" I asked, my Dragon’s Presence crackled in the surroundings.
He flinched but then he seed to force himself to calm down before he opened his mouth and I sensed sothing.
"Aren’t you a least bit-"
I raised my hand as his tone shot up a few decibels and I turned my head looking at the three n who had entered the tavern.
I looked at Lyall and gave him a curt nod. He understood and left my side right away to take care of the nuisance.
"Such an amateur," I muttered and my gaze went back on Asher who was also looking at the three n and then at Lyall.
"Getting followed and not even noticing."
"I had got rid of them," Asher defended himself a nd I snorted picking up the glass of juice in front of .
"By running faster?" I asked and he pursed his lips.
"For pests like these, running faster isn’t a way to get rid of them. The only way is to silence them." I said making him glare at him.
"Why... is a man like you engaged to Mirielle?" His voice was so low that I wondered if I was able to hear his mind’s voice.
"It’s because we’re made for each other," I boasted and he almost snorted.
"Now, shall we get back to business. Tell what you’re here for,"
"How did you know I was coming?" He asked instead and I rolled my eyes.
"I know everything that happens in this place, when you showed up, I got the news. And since you’re here so, it’s only for one reason." I smirked and then pointed at myself, "To see ."
His lips stayed in a thin line as he studied and I sat in my chair sipping my juice.
"We don’t have all night, Asher. Tell what you’re here for." I spoke up making him exhale through his mouth.
"I ca here because Mirielle won’t be able to report to you,"
I tilted my head slightly, my expression displaying amusent.
"I could have co to see her myself for that, but since you’ve co here then, it must an that the news is worth the secrecy." I mused and his jaw clenched again.
"It is," he finally said and I nodded.
Lyall returned to my side and stood there with his arms at his back. Asher looked at him with a displeased gaze before he fixed his eyes on .
"It was dangerous for Mirielle to provide you with information that’s why, I’ve co here." I said and I nodded.
"Also... she’s safe and sound. She’s even happy when she is spending ti with the Saint."
"What else?" I prompted and he sighed.
"She said she wanted to save the Saint... The Saint, he’s the child who was brought by the Pope... Not from the holy place but from sowhere else." He said and observed as if to see if I showed any indication of shock or surprise at this news.
I sat with a blank face and he blinked twice before he started speaking again.
"The child seed to have been through hell before he was brought to the Temple. At first the Pope and everyone were really nice to him but... Soon I realised that sothing was wrong." He once against studied my face.
"The Saint is cursed with a dark spell."
I let a reaction show to make him feel as if I was really hearing it for the first ti.
"He’s cursed?"
"Yes, it’s a curse of secrecy. I... had researched about it when I saw it on his tongue. The Saint usually doesn’t speak much so, I had assud that it must be because he is a shy child with a troubled past but... He was purposely silenced."
I sat with my finger steepled in front of my face and Asher continued speaking.
"I tried looking for ways to undo it but... It was impossible."
"Dark spells aren’t easy to deal with, don’t do anything unnecessary." I chided and he sighed.
"But that’s not all," he said and I nodded.
"He’s also forced to wear the shackles made of mana cancelling alloy,"
"All the ti?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yes, all the ti."
"Why?"
"To control his abilities, he’s a very strong healing mage and the Pope wants to keep that power in his hands so that he could get what he wants. That’s why he even has put the Saint in a special room where no one else could enter."
Now, ca the million dollar question.
"Where is that room?"
