I stepped away from Rune and poured mana into the mana stone on my earstud again reverting to the disguise of the aide and just in that mont there was a knock on the door.
Rune frowned a bit as he too felt it and looked at as if asking if he should open the door or not.
I gave him a nod and he walked over and opened the door.
The familiar black haired young man stood there, his athyst eyes impaling as he looked down at my brother.
He was a tad bit taller than both Rune and Eric.
"What might you want so late at night, Prince Davian?" Rune asked.
"I want to talk to the man who is in your room right now, Young Duke."
Rune threw a glance at before he looked back at Davian.
"And what might you want to talk with him? He’s the aide of Grand Duke Lancaster." Rune spoke.
"I know who he is, Young Duke so, I request you to please step aside or give him a ssage that I need to talk to him." Davian’s voice was quite husky and deep. It was almost to the degree that it seed like he was trying to intimidate my brother.
I sighed as I knew I wouldn’t be able to avoid him now that we were here. If there were any disturbances then the attention on us will double.
I walked ahead and placed my hand on Rune’s shoulder with a business smile.
"It’s all right, Young Duke, I shall leave now. I was just here to see if you have settled well."
"But-" Rune was about to resist but I squeezed his shoulder ever so slightly and then looked up at Davian.
I stepped out of Rune’s room facing Davian.
"I was just about to go to you after talking with the Young Duke, Your Highness." I smiled.
"Is that so?" He asked in a tone that clearly said that he wasn’t willing to play along with my facade.
"Yes, His Grace had told to make sure that our guests were comfortable." He said placing my hand over my chest.
Davian was still giving a hard look while Rune just stood there as if making sure that Davian wouldn’t do anything.
"I do have a problem." Davian spoke.
"And what might that be?" I asked.
"You’ll have to co with for that." He said and I kept my smile intact.
"Is there a problem with your chambers? If you are not satisfied with the room then I can-"
"I want you to co and see it." He spoke coldly and Rune stepped ahead.
"Prince Davian, please don’t speak to a person of this nation in that tone. It wouldn’t fare well for us." Rune said.
Davian looked at him and then at before saying in a rather gentler tone, "I see, then, please Mr..."
"Oh, my. I apologise, Your Highness. I didn’t introduce myself," I said as I bowed, "my na is Nael Maxwell, I’m the son of Earl Maxwell. I’m working as a substitute aide for His Grace so, please pardon my ignorance."
Davian observed while I could feel the eyes of the guards and maids who were stationed around us.
I couldn’t drop my act at any cost.
"Mr Maxwell," Davian spoke, "co with ."
I observed him for a mont before I answered, "All right, Your Highness."
Rune frowned and I looked at him with a smile reassuring him silently and he scowled at Davian before Davian turned and I started walking behind him.
Davian walked towards his room and opened the door looking at . I stepped inside and he entered behind closing the door behind him.
I walked over and stood in the center of the room. Davian walked over and gestured to take a seat. I obliged, he kept standing and I looked up at him.
"Aren’t you going to take a seat, Your Highness?" I asked.
"Drop the act, I know who you are." He spoke bluntly making sigh.
I stood up and looked up at him with the sa polite smile.
"What is your purpose of asking for to co here, Your Highness?" I asked.
Davian’s eyebrows twitched and his aura clashed with my mana presence. I was kind of cursing myself for not keeping that mana hiding bracelet on . It was back in my drawer in my study at Ryujin mansion.
"Master Ocean Ryujin." He spoke in a chilling tone.
I didn’t show any signs of faltering as I relaxed standing there with my hands in the pockets of my trousers.
"Yes, Your Highness Davian Montaire?" I spoke and he grimaced.
"Don’t you have anything to say to after leaving without a word, Master?" He asked.
"I rember being told to leave,"
The muscle on Davian’s jaw jumped as he clenched his teeth.
"Why did you go to Mordino?"
"I had to fix the problem over there and also to gain a connection with the future monarch." I said.
"So you had nothing to do with saving my parents?"
"Your mother was a part of the revolutionary army so, we kind of got acquainted." I shrugged and Davian’s patience seed to have snapped in that mont as he reached out grabbing my shoulders.
"Why are you lying?!" He demanded.
"You ca all the way to Frosthail and protected , gave hope of finding my parents. And even went all the way to Mordino, waged a war and healed my parents. You were the one who helped us get reunited and yet after that you... you didn’t even let thank you."
His voice almost cracked at the end and I studied him.
"Your letters conveyed your feelings, Your Highness."
His eyes widened, "You read them..."
"Why wouldn’t I?" I smiled and his scowl returned.
"Then why didn’t you ever reply?!" He demanded.
"Because there wasn’t any need to."
His jaw clenched as his grip tightened on my shoulders and I sighed.
"Marquis Fairisles had requested to help you that’s why I ca to Frosthail and I really had my own motives to go to Mordino, your parents being there only coincided with it. So, I hope you won’t-"
"Is that all?" He asked.
"Pardon?"
"You did it all because Marquis Fairisles asked you for a favor and because you wanted to develop a connection with the future Queen of Mordino?"
I inhaled deeply, before sighing.
"Your Highness-"
"Tell , was that it?!" He shouted.
"You didn’t think of anything else while you were there serving and telling to trust you?" He asked.
"I... saw you as a child who needed my help, Your Grace. Your parents weren’t there to protect you, your condition was very fragile at that mont. You were surrounded by dangers and there was no one who could have protected you in that mont that’s why I ca."
Davian stayed silent for a while and then asked, "Then... Why did you leave and never reached out to ?"
"I didn’t think there was any need, Your Highness. You had your path to walk from there and I had mine, that’s why I didn’t respond."
"My mother ca over to Ryujin estate, she told ." He said and I smiled.
"I had indirectly got her to et , Your Highness the matter at that ti required soone from your family to co down to help with it."
Davian’s tense posture slowly relaxed and he let go of my shoulders.
"Now that you’ve had your answers so, I guess I could leave." I said as I stepped away but he gripped my wrist stopping .
"Will you keep avoiding ?" He asked and I smiled at him.
"On the contrary, we might run into each other quite often now, Your Highness."
After settling the matter, I left his room and returned to Damon’s residence.
It was a long evening so, I went straight to bed finding Nox and Lyall already waiting for in my room.
"Master!" Lyall straightened up as soon as I arrived and I removed my coat.
He took it and hung it over the rack looking back at .
"You look quite tired," he said as he helped remove my boots.
"I t my brother after so long properly only to tell him that I almost fixed his marriage."
Lyall’s eyebrows jumped as he heard and I sighed turning over my back, Nox hopped over my chest and I brushed his feathers.
"You... fixed your brother’s- Young Duke Rune’s marriage?" He asked.
"I didn’t fix it, I only suggested it to the King... He might consider it."
Lyall observed and I reached out to him, "Get the communication device. I need to tell my father."
Lyall looked bemused as he walked over and got the communication device for .
"Archmage called a while ago," he told and I groaned.
"He’s still worried about even though he has his fiance now." I muttered and Lyall chuckled before he handed the communication device. Just as I got it it started glowing and Silas’s voice ca through.
"Reina? Reina, are you there?!"
"Speak of the devil." I smiled.
