The chaperone was usually provided for the unmarried girls entering in the society and it was normally a woman. But considering that these young n were to go to the different country for a celebration they needed soone older than them or rather soone who was experienced than them in the matters of politics and society in general.

I wasn’t the type to beco soone’s chaperone for obvious reasons, but then again, Ocean was old and experienced enough to be Davian’s chaperone.

"Prince Davian!" I declared, "I’ll be your chaperone."

Davian looked at with hopeful eyes.

"Really?"

I sighed, resigned as the tir was still ticking.

"Yes,"

"Thank you, Master!" He bead.

[Task accepted. Penalty cancelled.]

I had so colorful words for my Patrons for screwing with my plans.

"What made you change your mind?" He asked.

"Well... I’m a parent, after all... If Kai asks to go sowhere with him and then puts on a long face when I refused then, I would feel bad." I lied, though I would think a bit before refusing Kai.

[Goddess of Wisdom shuns your biased nature.]

"My child is important to ."

"So, you see as your son?" He asked.

"Hell no." I blurted making him laugh.

"But, I’m glad, I managed to get you to accept it." He said and I sighed.

"When are we leaving though?" He asked.

"Soon," I said before I turned around and then recalled, "You and Lyall can have your spar after we return from Denril."

Davian grinned hearing this as I left his room and made my way back to the office where Roan ahd already returned and now wore a teasing smile.

"So, what did you talk about? What did he say?" He asked sounding like a gossip hungry paparazzi.

I gave him an icy look before I sat down.

"I’m going with him to Denril as his chaperone." I said and he frowned

"What?"

"His parents are busy and he has no one else but in the place of a guardian so, I’m going." I said as I turned my attention on the paperwork.

"You’re supposed to be his date, and you’re going as his chaperone?" He asked and I rolled my eyes.

"But wait, the other Princes will be leaving tomorrow or within this week, right? Then what about your schedule for winter? Should I postpone it?" He asked.

"No, we’ll finish it all and then I and Davian will leave for Denril." I explained and he looked at quizzically.

"What? But how will you manage it? I an it’s a long distance and the ball is just a fortnight away." He said and I looked at him.

"We don’t even need two whole days, Roan." I said and he narrowed his eyes.

"Are you planning to teleport his whole entourage to Denril or sothing?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"Only Davian and I will leave for Denril later, I’m sending the rest of his entourage tomorrow." I said as I continued working and he looked at with a smile.

"What?" I asked looking at that audacious looking grin.

"Nothing." He smiled a bit more before he turned his head and continued working.

In the evening, during dinner I told Davian my plan.

"So, we’re going to leave later?" He asked and then shrugged.

"All right."

"You’re leaving, Master?" Kai asked as he looked at .

"I’ll only be gone for a week or so, Kai don’t worry." I smiled and then my eyes drifted over to the little golden haired boy who sat at his side eating quietly.

He had stayed despite being adamant about leaving as soon as he had woken up.

"How’s the food, Sol?" I asked and he flinched.

"It’s good..." He spoke in a low voice and I smiled.

He wouldn’t talk much and only kept by Kai’s side, he hadn’t answered my questions yet and I hadn’t forced anything out of him. I had a feeling that he was older than he looked but I still couldn’t pressure him. I needed to know more about this demon before I left for Denril. Because if this thing happened again in my absence then-

I shook my head and looked at Kai, I could have taken him along but I couldn’t co to ask him if he wanted to go. I didn’t want his healed wounds to get scratched again, he had already gone through the recap of the almost demonic abduction a while ago, I didn’t want to add up to it.

After dinner, I tucked Kai in and told Davian to address his entourage to be ready in the morning to leave for Denril without him. My personnel was going to help them prepare so, I hoped they wouldn’t have any problems about having this order on such a short notice.

And after everything was done, I returned to Aurelius mansion at night. I had to see my brother and father off and besides, Eric and my Grandfather were also going to tag along.

I wondered if my father would be all right.

Eric had asked for my Grandfather, Marquis Desmond Fairisles to be his chaperone since he was the only man who had stood by him when he needed the most apart from myself. The King had asked him to take the Royal Guard with him but Eric and likewise all of us on his side were against the idea since the Golden Serpent’s spies were the most in number among the Royal Guard.

Last ti during the war, I hadn’t prepared any charm for my brother or Eric but this ti had already taken care of it. It wasn’t a war as such but, I would still want their safety over everything else.

The next morning, Penny and the other maids helped into a dress and I went downstairs to the entrance of the mansion. The entourages bearing two flags: one of Aurelia Duchy and second of Fairisles Marquessate stood ready to depart. Lyall and Asher were going with my father and brother as a part of the Aurelia family entourage. I still hadn’t talked to Lyall but I would soon.

Rune was looking over the final preparations with Sir Rudyard while my Father talked with Lyall and Asher.

"Will you be all right back here!" Grandfather asked as he ca up beside .

"I won’t be long," I said, "Prince Davian asked to be his chaperone."

"So, you’re also leaving?" He asked looking down at with a slight furrow between his brows.

"No, not right away. I have work to do here, I’m sending his entourage first and then him and I will leave later." I explained.

"Your father and brother will be shocked to know." He said and I sighed.

"Yes, so, I hope you don’t tell them. I’ll manage it when we et at Denril." I said and he nodded.

"Ah, besides, here." I said as I pulled out a grey handkerchief with the crest of Fairisles family a staff entwined with the mana spangles.

He looked at the handkerchief for a mont and then at .

"You did this?" He asked and I smiled.

"Since you all will be needing so good luck charm so, I thought I might as well make it for all the n of my family." I said and he cleared his throat a small smile making his lips twitch.

He reached out and placed his hand over my head.

"You’ve grown up to be a fine young lady, Reina." He said and I smiled.

"It’s all thanks to you and my father’s love and support."

He couldn’t hide his smile after that and I walked ahead, Eric who spotted approached with a smile.

"Reina, how are you feeling now?" He asked and I smiled.

"I’m good, are all the preparations done?" I asked and he nodded.

"Yes,"

I pulled out an orange handkerchief with the embroidery of the symbol of a crown and a Dragon and handed it to him.

"Here, for you." I said and he smiled as he took the handkerchief smiling.

"You didn’t forget this ti," he said and then looked at .

"I wouldn’t make the sa mistake twice... Big Brother Eric." I said and he chuckled.

"Right, and now I have two of your charms with ." He said and I tilted my head.

"Two?"

"Yes, I still have your ribbon right here." He said bringing up the hilt of his sword where I could see the black ribbon tied to it. I expected it to be torn or blood stained but it was surprisingly clean.

He seed to have noticed my questioning gaze and answered, "I washed it."

I smiled, I didn’t expect him to take care of it like this. He was considerate and respectful.

"Then, I’ll keep this." He said placing the handkerchief in his breastpocket and I smiled.

"Be safe on your journey." I said, and he nodded.

"Don’t worry, we’ll be safe." He said and I nodded before I looked at my brother who was walking towards us.

"What are you two talking about?" He asked and Eric smiled.

"Reina will tell you," he said, "I’ll go ahead."

Eric walked away and Rune turned to .

"What did he say?" He asked and I smiled as I pulled out a lavender colored handkerchief which had the crest of Aurelia Duchy on it.

Rune’s eyes widened as he saw the handkerchief and then he looked at .

"Reina... you..."

"I’m sorry, I couldn’t prepare any proper charm for you last ti. I hope you’ll like this." I said and his eyes grew teary.

He threw his arms around and I was slightly taken aback.

"How could I not like this? My little sister made sothing so beautiful all by herself, I’m so proud of you. I’ll make sure to never stain it to let anyone else touch it!" He proclaid and I chuckled.

"You don’t have to go that far, if it does get stained then I’ll just give you another one."

"No! If I can’t even take care of the handkerchief that my sister gave then how could I take care of the Duchy?" He spoke as he held at his arms length and I sighed.

There wasn’t any need to take it this far but I guess, he did like it.

Now, while this was going on, I felt the faint brush of his aura against , as if he were watching from afar—unwilling to co closersince if not anyone else then, my Grandfather would definitely notice him. I couldn’t decide if he was brave or simply reckless for stalking like this.
