Davian and I rode through the forest area heading towards the borders, I held Sol in front of as we rode rather faster.
He didn’t seem to be having a hard ti as within an hour of we started moving, he fell asleep. His head kept bobbing so, I had rested it against my chest while we moved.
"You like children, don’t you Master?" Davian comnted and I humd.
"Maybe,"
He chuckled, "What kind of answer is that? You do like children."
I didn’t respond as Sol groaned a bit and I had to adjust him properly while keeping my one hand on the reins. He kept twisting and turning burying himself closer to making sigh and I noticed the smoke co out of my mouth. I looked up at the sky which had started growing darker and darker, I didn’t realise when the temperatures dropped and Davian also didn’t seem to care as he had lived his whole life in a snowy land.
"Since you love children so much, why don’t you get married and have your own?" He asked.
"Have you forgotten how many children I have under my wing?" I asked and he smiled.
"Yes, but, I’m sure you would love to have the one who would look like yourself and the lady you love." He pointed out and I rolled my eyes.
"I have Kai, and he looks like . That’s enough for ."
"Is he your bio-"
"No, he’s not. But since we’re on the sa bloodline he’s a lot closer to ."
Davian humd, "Then he would have a younger sibling, if you considered."
"He’s the youngest, Your Highness. If I had to be precise then, I have two Dragons who share my essence. Kai and Drac." I said and he humd.
"The guy who I saw at Eldarf?"
I nodded.
"And this is your third?" Davian pointed at Sol.
"It’s kind of complicated." I said and Davian smiled.
Just then the bits of white started floating down from the sky and I sighed feeling Sol shiver, I wrapped my coat around him and sighed. We were close to a small town so, I guess if I had to save Sol from getting cold.
"I guess, we should stop by for today." I suggested as I wrapped my arm around Sol and he withdrew in my touch.
"Hm? Why?" Davian asked.
"I don’t think he should be out in cold for long." I said looking down at Sol.
"Isn’t he a Dragon?" Davian asked and I looked at him.
"So?"
He observed and then Sol for a mont before he shrugged.
"All right,"
We left the forest and rode towards the town close by, luckily we were able to find a decent inn but, there was a problem.
"I’m sorry, but we only have one room." The innkeeper said.
"Then, is there another inn close by?" I asked as I carried Sol in my arms with my coat wrapped around him.
"I’m afraid not," the innkeeper said and Davian put down three silver coins.
"We’ll take it." He announced and I looked at him.
We went up to our room and ordered so food, I had to wake Sol and he ate up a good amount before he dozed off again. I let him take the bed while I sat at the edge and Davian looked at the snow piling outside through the window.
I casted the Healing spell on Sol again as I noticed his mana acting up and sighed. What kind of demon was so strong to curse this Dragon? And if he was stronger than then, would that an I would have to face them in future?
"Say, Master?" Davian suddenly spoke up.
"What?" I asked and he turned to look at with his back leaning against the window and a grin on his face.
"Why aren’t you getting yourself a woman though? You’re already at an age where you should be married but here you are living a life of a single father." He teased and I rolled my eyes.
"I’m happy with my kids."
"Master, tell the truth, did you get heartbroken by your first love and swore of marriage or sothing?" He asked and I gave him a look.
"You really think with my face and power I would get heartbroken?" I asked and he laughed.
"Well, that’s hard enough. Then let think again, hm..." He pondered and then suddenly his eyes went wide and he asked.
"Oh, then are you really into n or sothing?"
I looked at him and sighed shaking my head, "Why don’t you focus on yourself?"
"What about ?" He asked.
"What are you going to do if Reina rejects you?" I asked and his face paled.
"Then, I’ll... try to show her that I’m better than all the n in this world." He announced.
I smirked, "Heh? Then what if that man is soone of my level?"
"Are you trying to beco my love rival, Master?" He asked narrowing his eyes and I laughed.
"Not at all, Reina and I have a special bond but it’s nothing like that." I said and he still gave the sa look.
"A special bond?" He asked looking as if his anger was slowly simring beneath the surface.
"Cool down, it’s like how you and I are. Since I cured her of her ailnt and saved her father from bankruptcy she looks up to ." I shrugged and his expression turned to normal.
"Now that you say it, Duke Aurelius was the first person you helped when you got to Sestia, right?" He asked and I nodded.
"Where were you before that?" He asked and I humd looking ahead, the faint mories of my past life coming back to .
"I... was working as an agent,"
"Agent?"
"Yes, a kind of intelligence agent... and well... things happened and I ca here." I said.
"What about your family?"
A dormant aching pulse reverberated in my chest and I smiled, I was over it now because of the love and respect of so many people that I guess I could say it.
"My father... left , my mother and sister when I was young, my mother tried her best to keep us together but since she beca overhearing, my sister ran away from ho... My mother loved her so much that it broke her... At that ti, I started working off jobs to keep our family afloat but, I wasn’t enough." I looked down at Sol, brushing his hair.
"One day, when I returned ho from work she... she had hung herself... I just kept working after that and ca across my ntor who taught a lot of things and before I knew it I was a chief but then when we were on a mission I-" I stopped abruptly and then chuckled.
"Well, I screwed up and had to leave. My subordinates were pretty good kids, I hope they’re doing good without ." I said and then looked at him.
"It’s not a very interesting story so, I haven’t really told anyone about it." I chuckled.
"What’s..."
"Hm?"
"What’s so funny about it?" He asked looking down.
"What?"
"Your family was broken and you didn’t have anyone to rely on yet, you worked so hard only to be left alone... What’s so funny about it?" He asked looking at with an angry expression.
My eyes widened for a mont, "I-It’s fine, it was a long ti ago and now I’m already around so many people-"
I was almost taken aback when he stomped over to and grabbed my shoulders looking down at , his eyes seed livid, filled with so many emotions that I couldn’t discern. Was he feeling pity for ?
"How..." I could feel the slight tremble in his voice and arms.
I had also thought of my past family to be trashy but, I never had anyone getting angry for my sake before. No, I hadn’t ever told anyone about it before.
"Your Highness-"
"Is that why you go out of your way for the kids?" He asked.
"Huh?"
"When my parents weren’t around, you ca out of nowhere and went so far as to go to Mordino and wage a war just to fulfill your promise. Was it also because of that?"
"B-Because of what?"
"Because you try and project your childhood self in the helpless children?" He asked.
I had no words, I had no idea, I just tried to help the helpless kids, I didn’t think much while doing it, but was I subconsciously just trying to ease my own pain by doing that?
"Those kids from Eldarf, all those people from Oasis, the Dragons under you, this kid," he gestured at Sol.
"Everyone of them... You were just trying to save yourself while trying to give them a happy and warm ho."
I couldn’t say anything as I just pondered over it, for all these years, I had been going around picking people who didn’t have anything and gave them a happy life thinking I was only doing it because I could but, this was sothing that I didn’t ever realise.
Still, it wasn’t all true, I might be doing it subconsciously but I still had no reason to feel bad about my past life anymore. The need to have a loving family was already fulfilled. I had people with who treated good, who loved and care for .
I had a family here.
