Jiaojiao couldn’t hold on any longer and quickly fell asleep, but Yang Xiaona lay there, unable to sleep.
She was still excited and happy about making her first friend.
It wasn’t an exaggeration; she was genuinely too thrilled to fall asleep.
She had grown up in poverty, never eaten a good al, or worn good clothes, let alone now, lying on such a clean and beautiful bed. She really felt like she was dreaming and refused to close her eyes.
At school, she was also the last to sleep, waiting until everyone else had fallen asleep before daring to take off her clothes to bathe and wash her clothes overnight, then putting them back on before everyone else awoke in the morning.
To others, her behavior seed peculiar, and given her poverty, no one wanted to befriend her; they scarcely said a word to her for fear of getting tainted.
Except for Jiaojiao.
She was so pretty, so kind, not only giving her lots of candy to eat, letting her have at, but also willing to be her friend, now even taking her ho and sharing the sa bed.
This was wonderful.
She looked at the photo on the bedside table, eting Ruan Chi’s smiling eyes, and curled her lips, whispering, "You were right, many beautiful things await in my future, I’m not afraid of dying, why would I be scared of living?"
When Shu Jiao entered Jiaojiao’s room, Jiaojiao was already asleep. Yang Xiaona was much taller in stature, and the two lay side by side in the sa direction; from afar, it seed like her daughter was nestled protectively in Yang Xiaona’s embrace.
Thinking about how Yang Xiaona had saved Jiaojiao again today, Shu Jiao’s eyes softened involuntarily.
She sat down slowly by the bedside, checking Jiaojiao’s calf, realizing it had torn a little due to exertion in the evening, but it wasn’t too serious. After applying so dicine, she turned back to tend to Yang Xiaona’s wounds.
Yang Xiaona’s elbow was bruised and needed to be rubbed with dicated wine, otherwise it would hurt more the next day.
Her hands were soft and warm. Yang Xiaona woke up from the pain, but looking at Shu Jiao’s gentle face in the moonlight, she felt no fear.
"Xiaona, bear with it; this bruise needs to be rubbed out, or you won’t be able to move your arm tomorrow," Shu Jiao said in a lowered voice once she saw Yang Xiaona was awake.
Yang Xiaona looked at her, knowing she should refuse, but deep down, how could she reject such warmth?
Her mother... had once thrown a hamr at her head because she failed to stop her brother from crying, and left her bleeding out on the bed for a day without a second glance.
Yet Shu Jiao, a stranger, was rubbing her bruises late at night... even if it was just for Jiaojiao’s sake, she couldn’t bear to refuse.
She didn’t even dare make a sound, fearing she might startle away this stolen bit of care.
After more than twenty minutes of rubbing, Shu Jiao stood up, shaking her hands, and said softly, "Okay, it’s late. Go to sleep. You need to get up early for class tomorrow."
She then gently tucked the blanket around Yang Xiaona and Jiaojiao before quietly leaving the room.
Yang Xiaona watched her silhouette disappear at the door in the moonlight, unconsciously curling her lips once again. Leaving aside Jiaojiao, even if such care required a lifeti in exchange, she was willing...
