Chapter 1409: Chapter 1409: Nine Demons and One Nightmare (Part 7)
He said to Duan Qianyang, “Uncle, don’t you find that cousin’s gaze really intimidating?”
Feng Nianian’s eyes were large, and although Duan Xin had seen people with large eyes before, it was his first ti seeing irises so purely black that each ti he t those eyes, he genuinely felt a chill down his spine, as if he were about to be sucked in.
After Duan Xin spoke, without waiting for Duan Qianyang to respond, he looked back from his seat and asked Xiu Xi, as if wanting to find soone to agree with him, “Xiaoxi, did you see that? That was our cousin. Last ti you told us to keep an eye on her, exactly what should we be watching for?”
“Watch out you don’t get killed by her.” — Xiu Xi.
“…” — Duan Xin.
“…” — Duan Qianyang.
Silence.
A few seconds later, Duan Xin laughed awkwardly, “Hehe, Xiaoxi, you really know how to joke.”
Xiu Xi said nothing, rely looked at him coldly, making Duan Xin’s heart pound with fear. Just as he was about to say sothing, he heard Xiu Xi add, “Three brothers from the Feng Family died in six years, all underage.”
“!!!” — Duan Xin!
“What do you an?”
“Stay away from her, or you’ll die young.” Xiu Xi said it with the sa casualness as if talking about having a al.
Duan Qianyang, who hadn’t spoken previously, looked at Xiu Xi through the rear-view mirror thoughtfully, “Xiaoxi, do you know sothing?”
“…”
The response was silence.
Realizing no answer would co, Duan Qianyang could only change the topic, bringing up today’s matter: “Xiaoxi, your identity can’t be kept secret anymore. Dad doesn’t require you to return to the Duan Family, but can you allow Dad to introduce you to others?”
Fearing he’d refuse, he quickly added, “Don’t worry, Dad won’t force you to do anything. We won’t acknowledge anyone you don’t want to recognize. Dad just wants to introduce you so others know of your existence.”
The person they wouldn’t acknowledge was left unsaid by Duan Qianyang, but everyone in the car understood.
Duan Xin didn’t expect his uncle to plead with Xiu Xi so humbly, and was montarily stunned.
Xiu Xi didn’t answer imdiately. He looked down at Ruan Jiaojiao, who hadn’t spoken since eting Feng Nianian. After a long contemplation and inner struggle, he finally nodded, “Alright.”
Though it took so ti, Xiu Xi eventually agreed, allowing Duan Qianyang to breathe a sigh of relief and his mood to lift, his tone beca buoyant: “Then Dad will pick a ti to host a small gathering to introduce you to others.”
Xiu Xi nodded again.
He had learned from Ruan Hao that to protect those he wanted to protect, fists alone weren’t enough; he needed both money and power.
The forr he could earn, but the latter needed a bridge to reach, and this bridge was placed right before him, there was no reason to refuse.
Duan Qianyang wasn’t talkative, but having secured Xiu Xi’s agreent, he was uncharacteristically chatty on the way, talking about picking a good date next, and then about choosing a few suits, continuing nonstop until they reached the Shu Family’s garden.
Just before Xiu Xi got out of the car, Duan Qianyang called out to him again: “Xiaoxi, go tell the Shu Family I’ll be visiting next Wednesday.”
He should have visited a long ti ago, but Xiu Xi hadn’t relented before, and he didn’t want to provoke him, so he had yet to co to the Shu Family.
