Actually, Jiaojiao didn’t want to go at all.
She was still sleepy, having played with Little Fatty late into the night. But seeing her dad looking so hopeful, she couldn’t find it in herself to refuse, so she just nodded hastily.
Jianguo imdiately planted a loving kiss on her small cheek and reached out to lift her from the bed.
But before his hands touched Jiaojiao, soone stepped in.
“Uncle, I’ll do it,” said Xiu Xi, inserting his small body between Jiaojiao and Jianguo, helping Jiaojiao bend down to sit on the edge of the bed, then squatting down to slip sandals onto her feet.
“…” Jianguo took two steps back, frowning and scratching the back of his head.
He felt sothing was off but couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
After Xiu Xi put the sandals on Jiaojiao, he took her small hand, helping her jump off the bed. He adeptly straightened her clothes, then took her outside.
Jianguo: “…” It still felt wrong. Very wrong. Yet, he couldn’t articulate it.
He followed them with large strides and watched as Xiu Xi squatted in the yard, washing his daughter’s face and squeezing toothpaste… His brows furrowed, he turned to ask Ruan Chi, who was eating breakfast, “Have your sister and Xiaoxi always been like this?”
“Yeah.” Little Fatty answered, looking quite resentful. It used to be that his brothers and he took turns with these tasks, a rare chance to be close to their sister.
But ever since Xiu Xi had been staying at their house, these chores hardly ever ca their way. He couldn’t even get a chance to be near her anymore.
He had even complained to his uncle before, who had said it was not a big deal!
But how could it not be! His sister belonged to the whole family and shouldn’t be monopolized by one person, especially soone not nad Ruan!
Jianguo didn’t continue the conversation, but his gaze on Xiu Xi carried so inquiry. He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he felt that this kid… seed to really have the intention of stealing his daughter away. The way he just pushed him aside was too practiced.
