Ning Xiuyuan walked Qiao Qiqi back to the car, and Qiao Jiezhe drove off with his sister. In his mind, Ning Xiuyuan was just an ungrateful brat, not even worth acknowledging.
Qiao Qiqi was puzzled about another matter. Looking at where Ning Xiuyuan lived with his mom and brother, their family’s situation didn’t seem great. But why could Ning Xiuyuan walk around First Middle School with such swagger?
A troublemaker like him, often skipping class and getting into fights, should have been expelled by now, right?
By the ti the siblings got ho, it was already late. Their parents were still up waiting for them and only went to sleep once they saw their children were back safely.
As Qiao Qiqi was about to sleep after taking a shower, there was a knock at the door. She opened it to find her brother standing there holding a pillow.
"Bro, what’s this?" The handso young man in front of her looked like a little puppy seeking affection.
"Sis, can I sleep with you tonight?" Qiao Jiezhe gave her a pitiful look, much like an abandoned puppy.
Qiao Qiqi looked at her brother with a mix of amusent and exasperation, "Bro, I’m almost an adult! It’s not really appropriate for us to sleep together."
"I’ll sleep on the sofa! I just want to chat with you, is that okay?" Qiao Jiezhe felt particularly lancholy. He finally had his own sister, but she was almost an adult and he hadn’t had the chance to properly care for her.
"Alright, co on in." Qiao Qiqi looked at the pure and beautiful young man in front of her, and thought of how he was frad, his life falling from its peak to a tragic end, eventually leading to his suicide. Her heart softened.
Seeing his sister agree, Qiao Jiezhe happily lay down on the sofa with his pillow, and Qiao Qiqi didn’t stand on ceremony, taking the big bed for herself. She turned off the lights.
"Sis, do you have soone you like?" Qiao Jiezhe was now really concerned about his sister’s emotional state. She was at a crucial point in her life where dating shouldn’t be a priority.
"No."
"That’s good. That Lu Mochen kid is unreliable! Don’t let him fool you." Qiao Jiezhe heaved a sigh of relief hearing her answer.
"Bro, don’t worry, I won’t be as naive as I was before." Qiao Qiqi turned to look at her brother.
"I know, I think you should focus on your studies right now since you’re in your senior year. Love and all that can wait until... after you graduate college, don’t you think?"
Qiao Jiezhe really didn’t want his sister to start dating yet. Thinking about his wonderful sister being swayed by so random kid made his heart ache.
"Let’s just see how things go, I haven’t really thought about it yet."
"Alright, alright, get so sleep. I have to get up early for a job tomorrow, and when I get back I’ll bring you a gift." Qiao Jiezhe was actually quite busy, and if it weren’t for his family, he wouldn’t have slowed down his hectic pace.
"Bro, make sure to be careful when you’re out there alone. Watch out for food, drinks, and everything else. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you." Qiao Qiqi reminded her brother with concern. Now that she had been given a second chance at life, everything was different from before, and she feared those who wished harm upon her brother might act early.
"Got it, now sleep." Qiao Jiezhe heard his sister’s concerned reminders, feeling delighted inside, he swore to himself that he’d treat his sister well and never let her suffer again.
The siblings fell asleep quickly and got up early the next day without disturbing their parents. Qiao Qiqi watched her brother leave in his service car.
Qiao Jiezhe kept peeking out the car window as his sister’s figure grew smaller and smaller, feeling very lancholic. He even thought about quitting work altogether to stay ho and take care of his sister every day.
