Now reading: Chapter 158 - 116 Victory Journey2 from The Last King Of Darkness, a Eastern novel by Mountains and rivers have no memory.

Rod said unhappily, "You’ve never tried, so how do you know I’m so fragile? Only those who have experienced it are qualified to answer that question."

Turning his head, he raised his voice and asked:

"Black Fish, am I hard?"

The Black Fish, who was bragging boisterously nearby, promptly replied, "Hard, hard, hard, I’ve tried it, no one is harder than Brother Rod."

Anna snorted, "I must go with you tomorrow to see just how hard you really are."

"Forget it."

Rod certainly didn’t want to go along with her; "Magic Release" was said to be one of the seven characteristics, seemingly a powerful long-range attack, and her Spiritual Vision wasn’t weak either, she might steal his monsters. Captain Black Fish was the perfect teammate, with short reach, thick skin, and poor eyesight—great as a shield and not a threat to steal his souls.

Black Fish rejoiced, "See, Brother Rod thinks I am the best partner."

Anna glared at him and snorted, "Sothing’s fishy between you two."

——

And so, Rod settled down in Sword Pass.

The Defenders of Sword Pass welcod their arrival with great enthusiasm. As the last line of defense in the inner defense circle, they were usually overlooked and had never received such significant support.

Nor had they ever enjoyed the warmth of the Guardian Fire.

Once the human Fire of Life took root here, its power beca stable and strong, lighting up within a radius of three hundred yards.

Though still minuscule compared to the darkness of the wilderness, the warriors all felt as if dawn had broken.

Before the arrival of the Guardian Fire, they used Residual Fire containing sparks that had separated from the Guardian Fire. Its power couldn’t even light up the fortress, and warriors had to wear Red Tear Stones to ward off the invasion of the Black Fog when fighting on the walls.

Now, they could run freely on the walls, look into the distance, and use defensive weapons like Crossbow Cannons to attack monsters.

Most importantly, they could finally sleep soundly.

The number of night-ti guards was cut in half, and no dark beings could bypass the fire to attack them. As soon as they stepped into the fire’s range, they would burn continuously until turned into ash.

The recovery speed of Spiritual Energy also beca much faster. Sitting next to the burning Guardian Fire for ditation, feeling the warm breath trickle into the soul, spreading through the body, was absolutely the highest level of enjoynt.

Much better than consuming potions or nibbling on cold, dead Soul Red Crystals.

Unfortunately, the Guardian Fire Sacrificial Ground at Sword Pass Fortress was the smallest kind, with only ten spots available.

Fire Guardian Mo’er was a very strict and temperantal old man; he would chase anyone out for cramming in even one extra person.

"By the Guardian Fire, no more than the allotted number of people is allowed to ditate. That’s a fundantal rule," he warned everyone coldly.

Aside from Rod, everyone understood that this was to prevent damage to the Guardian Fire and consequent loss of power.

Under the arrangents of the Chief Defender Steel Hand, Captain Beowood, and Reslin, a rule for taking turns to ditate was established, determining each person’s ditation ti in front of the Guardian Fire, based on their ti spent on missions and the intensity of battles.

Rod, with his dazzling war achievents, undoubtedly was first in line.

During this period, he and Black Fish would go hunting Evil Spirits on the Corpse Wasteland every day.

Setting out at Morning, they worked until before Nightfall.

Out of the sixteen clock hours in a day, he worked for twelve, wishing he could even skip the ti for eating and going to the bathroom.

Black Fish was full of energy on the first day, but by the second day he was listless, and on the third day he lay in the fortress, unable to go out.

Rod had to swap him for another warrior.

He could have gone solo, but he was unfamiliar with the path and unable to use the Star Disk. He would be lost in the vast darkness, and once the Residual Fire or Red Tear Stone on him was exhausted, he’d be left with the dismal fate of being eroded by the Black Fog.

Plus, having a teammate as a backup was a good thing.

In this unknown Dark World, who could guarantee there wouldn’t be accidents?

Rod could hunt about a hundred Evil Spirits a day, which wasn’t very efficient, far lower than he had expected.

This was because Evil Spirits generally appeared more at dusk, fewer at Morning and Noon.

Most of all at Night, but no one was allowed to leave the pass during that ti.

Even at dusk, it would not be permitted unless it was related to the safety of Sword Pass Fortress.

What annoyed Rod the most was that during sacrifice, he found there were very few souls of Evil Spirits, far below expectations.

Sacrificed and those obtained directly through Soul Blasts totaled to less than 80 Souls Without Spirit.

aning, at the end of the day, he only earned about 8000 Souls Without Spirit.

But even so, it still far exceeded the efficiency back in the sewers.

To reach 50000 Souls Without Spirit was just a matter of waiting a few more days.

Moreover, the souls of Evil Spirits were not entirely useless; they had rich Spirituality, with at least 2 shares per soul.

Having sacrificed so many Evil Spirits, Rod had gained about 800 shares of Spirituality. These semi-translucent jelly-like substances almost piled up to half his height, far exceeding his once most abundant Humanity.

Rod could only place them all in the Storage, which had a considerable internal space, easily enough to store everything.

The Corpse Wasteland was also much emptier than expected, not as crowded with monsters as Rod had imagined when he first heard its na.

In fact, aside from the Evil Spirits, there were only so dust particles wandering around.

For these things worth just a few Souls Without Spirit, Rod had no interest at all, leaving it all to the escorting warriors to deal with.
