Now reading: Chapter 221 - 163: All Up to Me from The Last King Of Darkness, a Eastern novel by Mountains and rivers have no memory.

Rod rapidly retreated and continuously fired at the Fog Demon five shots per second.

The Spirit Gun, with only a capacity of seven bullets, fired incessantly without even a half-second break.

The Fog Demon beca enraged, its Spiritual Energy boiling over. From its fog-like body burst forth a glowing light as it turned and charged at Rod, its white mist trailing a long phantom.

If you looked closely, its path was arc-shaped, much like a leaping flyer.

This was its weakness—whenever it leaped, its fog-like soul would briefly show a humanoid form.

This was its vital pathway.

Every one of Rod’s bullets targeted the ankle of this humanoid shape, the impact of the Sealing Spirit Bullet interfering with its Spiritual Energy flow, slowing its speed.

As long as it couldn’t catch up, Rod could keep shooting it until it died.

Based on the disturbances caused by the bullets hitting, Rod estimated it would take about eight hundred Sealing Spirit Bullets to kill this Fog Demon.

Evil Spirit-type monsters all have weak defenses.

Of course, with each Sealing Spirit Bullet costing nearly forty silver coins, Rod couldn’t afford to spend that much. In reality, he only needed about a hundred bullets to blast a Soul Void into it.

Next, he would rush forward with a sprint, hard earned from rigorous training, and gut it in one fell swoop.

This was the script Rod had written.

If he was more daring, he could also move forward to lure the Fog Demon into attacking and strike its rib-side weakness to kill it even faster.

But that was too dangerous and unnecessary.

His combat skills were not yet at a level to engage in close combat with Fierce Level or higher monsters.

The Resurrection Stone would require Divinity.

More importantly, if Rod could kill this monster alone, he would confront the secret base, telling them that the one who solo-killed a Fierce Level monster was indeed him.

According to Trolian tactical principles, a combatant facing a Fierce Level monster head-on—surprise attacks excepted—must be at least Seventh Level.

If Rod could prove his combat ability of Seventh Level or higher, Soron would no longer have the excuse of weakness to deny him participation in missions.

The missions of the Top Class were drastically different, and with so many strong allies to rely on, how hard could it be to kill a few monsters?

Would souls still be a problem by then?

This was Rod’s entire plan.

That’s why he wanted phit to watch from the sidelines and not interfere, lest it disrupt his grand strategy.

However, things didn’t go as smoothly as Rod had thought.

Even obstructed, the Fog Demon’s speed surpassed his.

Rod sprinted with all his might, yet the Fog Demon kept closing in.

And he had only fired fifty bullets; it would take fifty more to expose its vulnerability.

Just give ten more seconds.

But it was too late, the Fog Demon’s poison fog had already touched him, and his Humanity began to decline.

Damn!

Rod could only blow the whistle, his only summoning left.

The Dean’s Phantom descended from the sky, glanced at the Fog Demon below, frowned, then disappeared.

You’ve got to be kidding .

Rod almost tripped, wondering if retreating before a battle was even a thing.

Dammit, I’ll have to settle scores with the Dean later. Your summoning is too unreliable.

Rod had no choice but to risk executing Plan B.

He imdiately turned around and plunged headlong into the Fog Demon’s mist.

His Humanity began to rapidly decline, but Rod’s Humanity was really in abundance; it was simply not possible to exhaust it all.

With the poison ineffective, the Fog Demon materialized into a humanoid shape— a lean and elongated ghostly figure with long claws, moving so swiftly that Rod could hardly see it.

Thus, at the instant it appeared, Rod executed a sliding tackle into a roll; a chill ran down his back as the claw swiped past, missing him completely, truly dodging it.

Rod imdiately raised his gun and continued attacking its rib side.

Boom.

A muffled sound seed to emanate from the void, and Rod was overjoyed, knowing it was the trembling of the soul.

Victory!

Indeed, relying on oneself is the true way.

But as Rod was getting up, what he saw was the rushing mist and the Fog Demon’s claw raised high.

Deadly danger ca crashing in.

Damn!

What’s going on?

Where’s your vulnerability? Why aren’t you pausing rigidly?

Rod could no longer dodge and shouted in desperation, "Help , phit!"

He readied himself to fight to the death, uncertain if phit could be relied on, but determined to kill this monster even if it ant his death.

But the next mont, the Fog Demon suddenly froze; a cold chill emanated from its entity as its fog-like body was frozen mid-air, even the flashing within the mist was immobilized.

Opportunity!

Rod imdiately leaped up, blasting its rib side with gunfire.

One Sealing Spirit Bullet after another struck its weak spot, quickly blasting a large hole.

Then, Rod learned why it had recovered so quickly from the pause earlier.

The mont a vulnerability appeared, the surrounding mist rapidly converged towards the Fog Demon’s body, filling up the hole.

In barely a tenth of a second, its vulnerability had healed.

So that was it.

Rod gritted his teeth in frustration. The script had completely crumbled. Lying was pointless, as the Royal City had ans to verify the residual Spiritual Power Waves and traces of battle.

Lacking complete information and experience, he would have to thoroughly understand the details of the monster before crafting a plan in the future.

Alas, a tenth of a second isn’t enough to employ a "Soul Blast."

Rod didn’t want to use the "Spiritual Power Fifth Layer lody," so he resorted to his other trump card—

Before the battle started, his other hand was already clutching the Thunder Stone Bag, charging the Thunder Stones continuously except for the half-second it took to load the Spirit Gun.

Now, the bag full of Thunder Stones was fully charged.

Rod threw the entire bag of Thunder Stones and shot the bag to burst it open.

Without any restraint, the Thunder Stones exploded at the weak spot beneath the Fog Demon’s ribs.

Boom!

Thunder Light flashed, and serpents danced wildly; the massive explosion caused by the twenty Thunder Stones even blasted a huge crater in the mountain.

The Fog Demon was torn to shreds and lted into the swirling Black Fog.

A wisp of black air entered Rod’s body.

[Soul of the Fog Demon]

Not bad.

Rod let out a breath.

Ten thousand silver coins, a relatively strong soul, the pay was not bad.

Plus, he relied mostly on himself during the battle without the help of teammates or Summonings, proving his substantial combat abilities.

phit had been of trivial help, but even without her, Rod believed he could still make a critical counterstrike in a crunch.

"But... Her control ti is really a bit long, this girl’s characteristics are so strong, huh, I can team up with her more in the future; we complent each other well."

Thinking this, Rod turned toward her and stepped forward with a smile, extending his hand:

"Well done, Little i."

phit still maintained her aloof deanor, her face hidden in shadows, standing at the very edge of the battlefield with little presence.

Her pale silver eyes displayed little emotion, nor did she acknowledge Rod’s hand.

Just as Rod was about to say sothing more, the ground suddenly shook beneath his feet. Following a series of loud booms, he turned to see the large crater nearby had collapsed into a huge hole.

"Uh... is this mountain really that unstable?"

phit said softly, "Sothing’s not right."

Rod felt it too, the pitch-black hole made him think of so rather bad possibilities.

"Maybe we should retreat..."

Before he could finish speaking, a massive dark mass crawled out of the hole.

The countless tangled tentacles, resembling intestines, the Black Blood and embryos flowing through innurable pustules, and the soul core shrouded by the murky Spiritual Energy, all signaled that it was the Abyss Demon Rod encountered last ti, the "Abnormal Demon" spoken of by Iron Wolf.

Damn!

Why this thing again?

What now? I don’t have any Summonings this ti, and the three from Iron Wolf are not here.

For so reason, Rod felt very uneasy; the Abnormal Demon seed to have locked on to him again and was slowly extending more tentacles in his direction.

You guys really wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

At that mont, phit took a step forward.

Rod imdiately grabbed her hand.

"Don’t go, that’s an Abyss Demon, extrely difficult to handle. Its blood and embryos are highly corrosive, and its tentacles have very strong regenerative capabilities. The only thing it’s weak to is plague. It likely has as its target. I will lure it away while you take the chance to escape and find soone to rescue ."

phit slightly tilted her head, her silvery-white eyes’ periphery glancing at him.

For so reason, Rod sensed a complexity in her gaze.

She asked softly, "What about you?"

Rod chuckled, "I have my own special ans of escape; I can hold out for quite so ti. If only the dicine Woman had been around before we left, so key items could have been prepared, and I would have killed this thing instantly..."

Suddenly, a flash of Spiritual Light sparked in Rod’s mind, and he urgently asked, "How long can your ice control it?"

phit was silent for a few seconds, then answered, "Not very long."

"Can you hold it for thirty seconds?"

"We can try."

Rod gritted his teeth, "Alright! Stand back, and if you can’t hold on, run imdiately and don’t look back!" At the sa ti, he blew the whistle, and the Dean’s Phantom once again descended from the sky.

Fortunately, this ti it rely frowned upon seeing the Abyss Demon, instead of disappearing imdiately.

Rod instructed, "If it gets out of control, try to restrain it, don’t let it get close to ."

The Phantom nodded slightly, soared into the air, and flew toward the Abnormal Demon.

phit raised her hand, and light blue cold light circulated around her, a strong chill emanating from her body.

The Black Fog had mysteriously cleared from the area, leaving only pure darkness.

Frost spread under her feet, and small ice fragnts fell around her, forming a cold world beside her.

In the direction she pointed, the huge Abnormal Demon also ceased its movents; the pale white frost enshrouded its body, making it appear as though it had been frozen stiff.

"Good!"

Rod raised his hand, pointing at the monster.

Powerful Spiritual Energy began to vibrate in the air, his mind entering the Third Star, an intricate star chart unfolded before his eyes, shining Star Lines resembling piano strings and keys, allowing Rod to play the stirring notes once more.

This ti the pieces were "Dream Requiem," "Victory," "Divine’s Wrath," "Silver Sword Demon Hunting," and "Starry Sky."

The powerful lody resounded once again, endless Spiritual Energy gathered in his hands.

And the Abyss Demon remained frozen in the air until the "Spiritual Power Fifth Layer lody" was completely executed!

Rod could hardly believe his eyes.

phit’s control was indeed too strong.

As the last note fell, Rod released all the peak Spiritual Energy he had gathered.

"Maybe, we are just ant to be!"

Boom!

A massive torrent of Spiritual Energy blasted out, hitting the Abnormal Demon dead on.
