Ghost Spirit Lake was twelve thousand yards south of Star Town, shrouded in fog year-round.
The black Dead Land fog intermingled with the gray Mist, creating an eerie and terrifying sight.
In truth, it was far more dangerous than it appeared on the surface.
Countless high-rank Evil Spirits either floated in the fog or hid beneath the surface of the water, launching deadly attacks on any creature that passed by.
The Royal City had lost countless reconnaissance and exploration teams here; all attempts to investigate had ended in failure, and in the end, the area was designated a deep-red high-danger zone, forbidding any further missions to venture deep into it.
But today, a group of thousands shattered the deadly silence, and at last, the Mist that shrouded this mysterious area was dispelled by firelight.
The Fire Guardian personally separated a Residual Fire from the Guardian Fire and loaded it into the lantern. The passion of victory also cleansed the old Fire Guardian’s soul. He was overwheld with emotion, and holding the lantern high, he sent thousands of beams of light piercing forward, dispelling the Mist ahead.
Yet, even brighter was the procession that resembled a long dragon; the light from countless lanterns joined together, piercing through all the shadows, exposing the dark and foggy Dead Land to brightness for the first ti.
This was a gloomy wetland, with a huge lake in the center, its water dark and murky, as if it hid countless shadows beneath.
This was the legendary Ghost Spirit Lake.
But at that mont, there weren’t many Ghost Spirits left, rely a few scattered listlessly above the murky waters.
Most of the Ghost Spirits had left the area.
The once troubleso Ghost Spirits had left their lair’s advantage. Under the dual suppression of Fire Day and Guardian Fire, they beca very fragile and were swept away by the Star Town Legion.
The remaining Ghost Spirits couldn’t withstand the thousands of combatants with elevated morale and were quickly killed.
The area around Ghost Spirit Lake was swiftly cleansed, leaving only the enormous lake itself.
Captain O’Hara excitedly said, "Commander, everything is going smoothly, we have approached Ghost Spirit Lake. You should use that miraculous tactic and kill the Corrupted Hydra, it is the only remaining threat in this region."
"Exactly, kid, go on and take it down!"
Defensive Master Sen yelled:
"I can’t wait to set up my impenetrable defense around Ghost Spirit Lake. Just a heads up, my weekly wage will be 4000 silver coins!"
So you had already given up... Rod said with a wry smile, "That’s too expensive, can you go any lower?"
The Defensive Master suddenly leapt up as if he had sat on a red-hot iron rod.
"Impossible, absolutely not! I hold a high-rank position in the City Defense Army, not a single coin less."
"Then forget it."
"3000 silver coins."
"Deal."
Anna, standing to one side, was very disheartened: "Why did I rush out there? What was I doing? Rod killed the Ghost Spirits without needing ... wuwuwu, I’m so useless."
Her best friend and nesis, Mina, kindly consoled her: "There’s no need to bla yourself, you were useless to begin with."
Rod laughed, "Mina, don’t be so harsh on her, Anna has already tried her best."
Molly, who was standing nearby, pushed her gold-rimd glasses up and said seriously, "It’s not Anna’s fault. She was likely influenced by so characteristic ability. I highly suspect it has sothing to do with the Opposers. The monsters unusually leaving their lair to attack on Fire Day, the abnormal ferocity of the unclean Ghost Spirits, and Anna’s unusual behavior could all be related to them."
Rod exclaid in surprise, "There are such good people? Are you sure they’re the Opposers? Not my unbreakable allies?"
The people around all laughed.
Molly spoke seriously, "Commander Rod, it’s your unexpected strength that turned their plot into an ugly farce. But their intention was to destroy Star Town, break down the expeditionary force, and thus thwart the Royal City’s expansion plans. One failure won’t be enough to make them give up."
Vivian also added, "Miss Molly is correct. Our victory will cause an uproar in Royal City. The interests of countless people will be affected, and there are many with a deep hatred for us. We can’t let our guard down."
Rod said with a smile, "Don’t worry. There are many who hate us, but even more support us, and that number will only grow. Even those who hate us will gradually co to support us. The world will eventually be bright. The road may be winding, but the sun will pierce through the Black Fog and spread throughout this world."
He spoke with such decisive confidence, as if he truly foresaw such a future.
This intense confidence instantly infected them, as if they too could see that bright and shining mont.
All were deeply moved.
Darkness had been the ruling presence since their birth; everything outside of the firelight was darkness, and every mont of their growth was spent dealing with it.
No one dared to scorn it, no one dared to claim that darkness was destined to fail—the psychological barrier so formidable. Yet Rod crossed it with ease and pulled them along with him.
"Wuwuwu, I finally understand why you’re the Commander."
"Commander Rod is amazing."
"I have confidence again! Humanity will prevail!"
In the midst of overwhelming praise, only Molly remained expressionless, as if it was all a matter of course.
O’Hara too was fired up, shouting, "Prepare for battle! The Corrupted Hydra is at the bottom of the lake. Once we kill it, Guardian Fire will rise over Ghost Spirit Lake!"
