Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground.
The King distinctly felt that unique vibration of Spiritual Energy, the breath of life newly erged from its cocoon, imrsing him in its delights and making him reluctant to awaken for a long ti.
This was the King’s happiest mont.
Every newly born Guardian carried with them the hopes of Trolian.
Witnessing their appearance was like watching the sunrise, heartwarming and exhilarating.
The King was pleased.
So much so that he missed the words of the Great Priest gan, and it wasn’t until the First Elder Ando had coughed thrice that he returned to his senses.
"Alright, alright, Ando, you don’t need to cough anymore. Every ti your throat rattles, I feel like your lungs are about to burst out."
Every wrinkle on Ando’s face spelt displeasure.
"Your Majesty, you should focus more. This is a major affair for the Kingdom. The seventh exploration team has returned. They journeyed four thousand kiloyards east and did not find any signs of living human existence. The eastern theory of the Rose School has failed, indicating that we likely face the worst scenario—Trolian is the last Human Kingdom."
He paused, then said in an extrely grave tone,
"Therefore, Your Majesty, this is not just a major issue for the Kingdom, but a massive affair for mankind."
Great Priest gan spoke softly, "Yes, Your Majesty, we are the last of humanity. If we perish, there will be no more sparks of fire in this world; it will beco a world of absolute darkness, and all things will wither away in silence."
The King’s face darkened, and it was a long ti before he spoke.
"Not necessarily. Several theories of the Light Elent School have yet to be proven. We are far from reaching the ends of the four continents, and we have not yet arrived at the other shore of the Mist Ocean. How can we conclude that humanity is extinct? What lies on the other side of World Mountain Goyindo? What is on the opposite side of the Curse Erosion Rift Valley? No one knows. All these answers will have to wait until the World’s Clock is complete."
gan looked up, his eyes wide and a dull silver hue, as if covered with a film, making many shiver at the sight.
The King disliked it too because it signified a curse, the curse of humanity.
"My King."
He bowed slowly and respectfully.
"It is ti to use the power beneath Stone City. Calier’s secret troops are restless with hunger and thirst. A re secret branch of Jinworth is not enough to soothe their restless hearts; Calier’s instructors and researchers are very eager to see how powerful their ticulously created warriors are."
The King pondered and did not imdiately agree.
He understood all too well the profoundly evil force housed in Calier’s secret underground laboratory in Stone City, a legacy of ancient epochs, created by an unknown being: strong, twisted, and terrifying.
Compared to this, the demons and the forbidden under the Silver Oath seed quite sunny, and the applications by Doomsday believers were only scratching the surface.
But once this Pandora’s box was opened, it would be difficult to close it again.
Even in the direst tis of Trolian, the King had not released the true Calier forbidden.
However, the current situation was different.
The Holy Fire project had reached its most critical mont. They had overco countless hardships, crossed nurous mountains, and were just one step away from completion.
Securing the Holy Fire from Tasnia Star City would an that Trolian possessed two Holy Fire Sparks for the first ti in history; their Holy Fire would ward off collapse and danger, breaking through limits to unprecedented strength.
The very existence of Trolian was built upon the foundation of the Holy Fire. Hence, generation after generation of rulers and the upper echelons of Trolian spared no efforts in feeding Fuel Elent and Firewood into the Holy Fire.
This had beco their faith and goal. The stronger the Holy Fire, the stronger Trolian would beco.
This was a common understanding among all.
It was only a few years into the King’s reign that he noticed sothing amiss with the Holy Fire. A few more years passed before he realized the power of the Holy Fire had far exceeded its limits and teetered on the edge of collapse.
The best course of action then was to lower the strength of the Holy Fire imdiately and retract its power back within the safety line.
But Trolian and the Royal City, having developed so significantly thanks to the powerful Holy Fire, could not scale back.
Doing so ant that the existing system would crumble, leading to the deaths of millions, and erasing centuries of human progress forever.
No one wished to see that happen.
Neither did the Elder Council, but they lacked the King’s will and dared not resort to the risky endeavor of the Holy Fire project. If given the choice, they would certainly opt to forfeit, even if it ant humanity might never recover.
But having seen a glimr of success, they found it even harder to let go.
After enduring great hardships, Trolian finally stood at the gates of Starry Sky City. Victory lood near, like the final day of the Bright Festival, with dawn just within reach. How could they fail?
The Elders knew well enough that a powerful Holy Fire would bring imnse strength to humanity. Under its influence, the Fire Trial would ignite more souls, practice would beco easier and smoother, training for characteristics and developing the Fire Spark would be simpler. The success rates for rituals to advance Spiritual Energy would increase, and the materials needed would decrease.
In essence, successfully capturing the Holy Fire from Starry Sky City would not only avert Trolian’s doom but might also herald an even brighter future.
