Their mood was still incredibly heavy.
After experiencing the brutal battle and witnessing firsthand the tragic end of "Green Teeth" Hecajelin, from hope to madness, everyone was deep in thought.
Academic State...
The Holy Land they had longed for seed to be overshadowed overnight.
Even Ira, the only one in the four-person team to wield magic with her own power, couldn't optimistically believe that her talent was stronger than that of the witch.
At the entrance of the camp, Hunter Leo suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Finic and the others took a few more steps forward before realizing he hadn't kept up, turning back in surprise.
Leo stood in place, wearing a smile he had never had before. That smile was both reluctant and a relief of letting everything go.
"Finic, Barrett, Ira... Thank you for accompanying all the way. I... don't plan to take the Academic State's exam anymore." He gently spoke the words he had been pondering throughout the journey to his three companions.
At this mont, his gaze no longer hesitated.
"Leo... are you serious?!" Finic was greatly shocked, quickly stepping back to stand before Leo, unable to believe his ears.
Barrett was the sa, even anxiously stepping forward to grab his shoulders, trying to shake this brain-addled guy awake.
"Are you crazy? We've already co this far... just one last step! Why give up now? You're at least more talented than , aren't you?"
Leo's eyes could even see a squirrel darting into the bushes fifty ters away, undoubtedly a sign of affinity with the Wind Elent.
Unlike himself, who only when dozing off made the fire on the stove blaze bigger than usual, nearly setting the house on fire—until this day he still suspected it was just his father mistiming it, actually just him napping too long.
"Yes, Leo, just hold on a bit longer!" Ira pleaded anxiously, "Didn't we agree to beco Mages together?"
Leo smiled awkwardly, also feeling sowhat sheepish to abandon halfway.
But he had no intention to change.
His gaze swept over his three genuine companions, finally settling on the silent Mr. Colin and that powerful Female Guard nearby.
Looking back at his companions, he candidly spoke.
"Hecajelin wasn't a good person, but indeed a genius, as you saw the research results she left in the cave."
The three fell into silence.
Seeing no response, Leo continued.
"Even a genius like her ended up neither human nor ghost. I suddenly feel Academic State might not be the paradise we imagined."
He looked at his hands, a pair of hands long accustod to gripping a bow, calloused.
He suddenly smiled, relieved, and said.
"It seems... I really don't have that talent. Perhaps Saint Sis sent to the mortal world with no intent for to beco a Mage. Besides, I don't envy them much now. If the opponents weren't those Skeletons, but gray wolves or bears, I am confident I wouldn't lose. And there really is no need to fight Undead Mages, as my hotown has never seen such things."
He found himself starting to miss his hotown's forest, the wind by his ears while chasing prey, the sweet bowl of pumpkin soup, his father's loving yet stern eyes, the girl who suddenly covered his eyes from behind while he was cleaning his Longbow... the not-so-pretty yet innocent smile.
Such unremarkable life once made him disgusted to the extre, yet at this mont made him yearn sincerely, wishing to fly back imdiately to their side.
Being unremarkable isn't bad.
Throughout their journey, they saw too many Adventurers eager for fa, only to beco despicable scoundrels.
Don't even ntion gaining Saint Sis's favor; reincarnating these guys in Pompeii Village as a pig would be too rciful from Saint Sis.
"...In the end, the so-called Extraordinary Power is just a 'Transcendent' riding on the necks of a bunch of 'Mortals'. Successful people maintain this system, and those who cannot bear it will only tornt those ordinary people without power in a more barbaric and cruel way once they gain power."
"I actually feel the world would be better without Transcendents; what magic can do, hands can do too..." Leo shrugged his shoulders and suddenly laughed liberally, "You may think I'm just sour grapes, but this... really isn't the life I want."
"Having this grand adventure is already enough for my mundane life."
His desire to beco a Mage stemd from naively believing magic could change the world and make him a hero in people's eyes.
But now he realized a person actually can't change anything, ultimately only deciding how to live their life.
Legend is in the story; only life is one's own.
Finic, Ira, and Barrett looked at each other, montarily speechless.
They couldn't refute Leo's words, having witnessed firsthand Hecajelin's tragedy and her actions upon descending into madness.
anwhile, standing aside, Luo Yan revealed a tantalizing smile.
This young man had remarkable insight, seeing through the essence of Extraordinary Power so young—the so-called Extraordinary Power is collectively using everyone's strength then trampling them underfoot. If everyone could use magic, then magic itself would fail.
