Three days, huh...
A trace of worry appeared on Heigr's face as he looked up towards the sky.
However, the direction of his gaze was not towards Twilight City, but far to the west.
Soon, he spotted a dense swarm of black dots appearing in the distance, approaching his direction.
They were a flock of Griffins.
On the back of each Griffin rode a knight clad in a black robe.
Unlike the knights on the ground, these Griffin Knights were much more silent and exuded an intimidating aura from head to toe.
Led by the foremost Griffin Knight, the overwhelming mass of Griffins descended, like a gathering of crows.
Seeing the Griffins descending from the sky, many recruits who had never seen a single Demon Beast in their lives showed expressions of fear, pushing and shoving each other to find shelter.
Before going to the battlefield, at least the Campbell people received one to two weeks of training, while they were still farming just three days ago.
Perhaps the only ones remaining calm were the knights of the Lion Heart Knight Order.
However, facing those silent, black-robed knights, many still felt tense.
Although guessing their identity, Heigr still drew the short sword from his waist and shouted with a commanding presence.
"Who goes there!"
A man in a black robe flipped off the Griffin, retrieving a sword-shaped Cross Pendant from his chest.
With a crisp jingling sound, his voice erged, hoarse like the call of a vulture.
"Judicial Court."
Hearing this na, the knights showed expressions of surprise, exchanging uncertain glances.
Heigr's pupils slightly contracted, but he put away his sword, softened his tone, and spoke.
"Here you only find devout citizens and herds of cattle and sheep. What brings the Judicial Court here?"
The man in the black robe replied expressionlessly.
"Suppressing rebellion."
Heigr stared at him and said.
"That is the Kingdom's internal affairs, we just learned about it and were going to deal with it!"
The man in the black robe smiled wryly, his hoarse voice sounding mocking.
"You should have dealt with it long ago."
Heigr was montarily speechless, unable to retort, but his fists clenched tightly.
Perhaps...
This was his brother's purpose all along.
Upon learning that the fire in Twilight Province was completely out of control, His Majesty the King showed even less inclination to intervene.
Because once it reached that point, the Imperial would cover for them.
However, this was not without a price; the disgrace of bringing in the Judicial Court would strip the Ryan Kingdom of its prestige, sha the Devalu family, and cause innocent people to endure suffering far worse than famine.
Theoden didn't care.
But he did care.
"The blasphemy has already brought about Heavenly Punishnt. The sacred judgnt has executed the Chaos' Divine Chosen, but the pollution is not eradicated." The man in the black robe stated expressionlessly, "Under the Pope's command, I proceed to the Land of God Forsaken to eradicate all chaos. Now, I require you to obey my orders."
Anyone who slaughters a priest shall be executed by fire.
Anyone who neglects a priest being slaughtered shall have their eyes gouged out.
Anyone who defas the Holy Word Book shall have their tongue cut out.
Anyone who desecrates a corpse shall be left exposed in the wilderness.
There were fifty such decrees, each corresponding to an extre punishnt!
This was not only an eye-for-an-eye thod against the Chaos Apostle but also a necessary ans to eradicate Chaos Corruption.
Even if Twilight Province becos barren, it is no great loss!
They are quite civilized—in fact, even rciful—compared to a thousand years ago.
A thousand years ago, when the Imperial and Dragon God's people were still allies, duped by the Deceitful Fog, the Madman nearly overtook the Imperial capital and almost destroyed the Imperial's domain then.
Back then, they didn't have fifty decrees, nor the Judicial Court; they simply burned everyone.
Whether it was the perpetrator, the victim, or even those simply caught in the crossfire.
Heigr looked directly into the eyes of the man in the black robe.
"What is your na?"
The man in the black robe withdrew the Cross Pendant, and answered as usual with his title.
"Hines, Referee Chief."
"Hines, since you bring the Pope's edict, I will heed your instructions, but I reiterate, our swords will not target the Imperial citizens."
Heigr looked into his eyes again and emphasized.
"The Ryan people are also Imperial citizens, although they do not live in the Holy City."
Hines nodded slightly, his face still expressionless.
"Certainly."
"The Holy Word Book indeed states that."
