Most of them wore coarse burlap clothes, their faces marked with exhaustion and foolishness, like donkeys that have shed their harnesses, carrying burlap-stitched bundles on their backs.
Not only was their attire unusual, so held weapons incongruous with the Maze, like pitchforks or modified hoes... These might be quite intimidating on open ground, but in the narrow confines of the Maze, they were unlikely to be as effective as short weapons or shields.
It seems they are completely clueless about the Maze's environnt, likely lacking even protective talismans to ward off Spirit attacks. They were probably mixed into this level with a large group from shady rchants.
So rchants, looking to cut costs, would hire cheap or even free rookies as guards, relying on numbers to scare away Demons in the Maze.
And typically, the Demon King's minions wouldn't attack rchants who had sworn neutrality, which allowed them to make it to this level by sheer luck.
"It seems sothing extraordinary happened outside." Alex lightly furrowed his brows.
He had been inside the Maze for a while, unaware of the outside situation.
Perhaps he should write a letter to his family back in the Spinor Earl Domain, asking them what exactly has happened.
The Guard walking beside him drew a cross on his chest, murmuring a prayer.
"May Saint Sis bless us, let's hope the army of Chaos hasn't co..."
Praying to Saint Sis in the Demon King's domain might be odd, but Lord Demon King usually wouldn't nitpick with them...
The patrolling Guard gradually walked away.
And at that mont, a group of Artificial Humans wearing cloaks and Mimic Masks stealthily sneaked into the adventurer guild.
They were all newbies who had just received closed beta qualifications and were lucky enough to experience the latest version A08 Artificial Human character.
Half an hour earlier, an NPC nad Bond had delivered them to Mist Town, instructing them to register as Adventurers under Human identity and infiltrate the Human camp pretending to be Adventurers.
Worried about being discovered, they were on edge the whole way, fearing that NPC Guards would find out.
But unexpectedly, those NPC Guards paid them no mind; instead, their sneaky deanor attracted quite a few curious glances, so much so that people passing by near the adventurer guild cast curious looks their way.
In a twist of cleverness turned folly, these sneaky fellows finally couldn't maintain their composure, ending their stealth gimmick in awkwardness.
Earth-eating Rich Man: "Damn! Why are we sneaking around on our own turf? Can't we show a bit of backbone?"
Jade-faced Hand Tired King: "Exactly!"
Iron-blooded Fatty: "Bro, how about you straighten your back first?"
Wolf Limp: "Exactly!"
[Earth-eating Rich Man] blushed, straightened his back, and swaggered boldly into the adventurer guild.
The guild's hall had not only Human Adventurers, but also so Demons and Undead.
The two groups handled affairs at separate counters without affecting each other, coexisting peacefully.
[Earth-eating Rich Man] naturally lined up in the Human queue and eventually reached the counter, nervously activating the "Translation Magic" on his Mimic Mask.
The clerk behind the counter routinely asked.
"What are you here for?"
Earth-eating Rich Man: "Adventurer registration!"
Clerk: "Na."
Earth-eating Rich Man: "Hao Ge!"
"...?"
The clerk behind the counter gave him a second glance, but saw nothing unusual, ultimately tossing him an Adventurer badge.
Many Adventurers register with fake nas or nicknas, as there are too many common nas, and the forr is easier to distinguish.
[Earth-eating Rich Man] felt a surge of joy as he held the badge, trying to contain his excitent as he left the line, then flaunted it to his distant teammates watching.
He seed to say—
See? It's that easy.
A few Players exchanged glances, walked forward one after another to line up in the Human queue, and gradually completed their identity registration.
Everything was unbelievably easy.
The clerks didn't even carefully verify their identities, at most asking them to remove their hoods to confirm they weren't Demons, and that was it.
In hindsight, it's understandable.
Human Adventurers weren't exclusively Human; sotis Beastn, Dwarves, or Half-Elves joined too... As long as it wasn't the Hell Race, they wouldn't generally be rejected.
Though these Artificial Humans didn't look particularly upright, combined with Mimic Masks, they appeared indistinguishable from Humans.
That's precisely why they could so smoothly get by without exposing any flaws.
"...It seems the real key is the tasks ahead," fiddling with the Adventurer's dog tag in hand, [Jade-faced Hand Tired King] pondered and said after a mont, "We need to find a way to join a predominantly Human Adventurer team."
According to the Newbie Task description, the team must have at least three living individuals, and simply completing any three tasks above F-level counted as a pass, with generous rewards awaiting at that ti.
Afterward, whether they continued posing as Adventurers to earn Human currency or returned to the Great Tomb for free play was up to them.
However, the key issue lies here.
According to high-level players on the forum, there are too few solo Adventurers in Mist Town, and essentially no one forms teams here.
Moreover, inexperienced rookies aren't usually welcod; they might have to complete a task themselves to level up their Adventurer ranking, at least reaching E-level Adventurer.
