Divarak's army has occupied Ironwood Fort for nearly two months. During this period, it has suffered multiple attacks, including assaults from two ace legions.
However, although two of the outer camps have been destroyed, one camp still remains, holding out with its back against the city.
Now, Lumir's commander starts swearing again. This was originally just an ordinary resource city used only as a trade transfer point.
So why does it suddenly have so many heavy defensive weapons?
The dense ballista carts on the walls, and even the catapults, cause enormous trouble for Lumir's attacks.
These ranged weapons do not target the front line of the assault troops. They specifically target archer clusters.
As a result, whenever Lumir's army attacks, it never has archer units advancing with it to suppress the enemy formation.
They can only advance under the enemy's arrow rain. If they rush too quickly, it becos difficult to maintain formation. If they rush too slowly, they beco standing targets.
If they send sword-and-shield soldiers forward, they can indeed reduce their losses, but those soldiers cannot break through the enemy's spear formations.
This dilemma only improves slightly after ballistae are delivered.
Once they have ballistae of their own, the ranged fire from the walls indeed no longer dares to strike the archer clusters freely.
They finally manage to clear out the second outer camp as well.
But soon, sothing even more frustrating happens.
They originally want to use the ballistae that have been concentrated and delivered to suppress the top of the wall, then launch an attack on the only remaining outer camp.
But the city-defense ballistae, which should not have been able to reach them, suddenly gain a great deal of extra range. After several volleys, they destroy Lumir's hastily assembled ballistae.
Now, Lumir realizes those city-defense ballistae were not brought by Ogiro's army.
They are fine military equipnt produced by Peace Haven.
Only Peace Haven's ballistae have such high precision, and only they have thirty percent more range than the ballistae made by other sides.
Now, forget protecting the archer clusters. Even infantry and cavalry units do not dare approach the city rashly.
After all, most frontline commanders wear very eye-catching equipnt for ease of command.
Peace Haven's precision ballistae pose an enormous threat to targets like them.
Even a knight, if caught off guard by one shot from a ballista, will have a hard ti surviving it.
These ballistae are accurate, powerful, and fitted with high-strength alloy armor-piercing heads.
They are deployed in large numbers throughout Peace Haven's fortress clusters. During the war, many knights and frontline commanders have beco the main hunting targets of these ballistae.
This is one major reason Peace Haven's fortresses are so hard to remove. After all, siege battles require frontline officers to command from the front line.
Yet these extrely accurate ballistae place officers in extre danger once they co within five hundred ters of a fortress.
As for Peace Haven's fortresses, every side has reached the sa conclusion. Either gather heavy forces and besiege them, or leave behind containnt forces and bypass them.
If they gather heavy forces, then they are gnawing through a hard bone bit by bit, and the losses need not be ntioned.
But if they leave troops behind to contain and watch the fortress, they cannot leave too few.
During warti, even small fortresses have several hundred people stationed inside, while dium fortresses have more than a thousand troops.
Therefore, if they bypass a fortress, they must leave behind twice as many troops.
Otherwise, it is very easy for the well-rested Peace Haven soldiers inside the fortress to counterattack and cut off the main army's logistics route.
While studying Peace Haven's fortress clusters, those ballistae also entered everyone's field of vision.
Many countries have tried to imitate them, but the results have been poor.
The design of these ballistae is exquisite. They are light, sturdy, and extrely powerful.
The problem is that Peace Haven's constantly evolving tallurgical technology gives the ballistae excellent material performance.
If other countries want to replace those materials, then putting aside the cost of production itself, even the processing cost is difficult to imagine.
That is why the senior commanders of every country understand Peace Haven's ballistae very well.
Many nobles privately buy so and place them in their castles and manors in case powerful enemies invade.
As for Lumir, Peace Haven once tried to sell them these weapons.
But this country of rchants wanted to monopolize the sales rights and introduce the production line. Peace Haven obviously could not accept that.
In fact, Lumir is not alone. The other countries also have not purchased large quantities of Peace Haven's heavy military equipnt.
Even their purchases of ordinary military equipnt are limited. Especially after Peace Haven gradually grew stronger, they beca even more vigilant.
When Lumir's commander discovers that Ironwood Fort has large numbers of Peace Haven ballistae, he naturally gets a terrible headache.
But other than throwing lives at the problem, he has no better solution for the mont.
As long as they cannot deal with Ironwood Fort's ballistae, Lumir's ace legions and even knight orders will find it difficult to move.
Now, soone thinks of a good thod. Since many nobles have privately purchased Peace Haven's fine ballistae, they can requisition those ballistae and use them together to suppress Ironwood Fort's ranged attacks.
As for the difference in elevation and the resulting range gap, there are many ways to make up for it.
Whether they build tall mobile watchtowers or simply advance into their own firing range and start shooting, both are thods.
At least they are better than the situation now. They cannot just wait for Divarak and his n to celebrate the new year in there.
They must take advantage of the fact that Ogiro has not yet finished assembling its army and pull out this nail.
Through almost half-forced requisition, Lumir's army manages to gather more than twenty ballistae.
But that number is still not enough, so soone cos up with another good idea.
There is another place with ballistae produced by Peace Haven. That place is Tatan City to the south.
Peace Haven invested in the port there, and the weapons deployed for Tatan City's defense were all provided by Peace Haven.
Even the military equipnt for Prince Obilian's newly ford legion was bought from Peace Haven.
Afterward, they take the king's order and, right in front of a dark-faced Obilian, haul away all of Tatan City's ballistae.
This makes Prince Obilian of Tatan City suffer, and soon Prince Sundike in Ironwood Fort begins to suffer as well.
With the support of so many ballistae, Lumir's army quickly destroys the last camp outside Ironwood Fort.
From that mont on, Divarak and his n are completely blocked inside the city and begin a siege battle.
During the previous defensive battle at the final camp, a large number of Ironwood Fort's ballistae were damaged in the sudden exchange of fire.
The remaining ballistae are hurriedly protected. These things still need to play an important role in defending the city.
Facing this small city, Lumir's army launches several assaults. Siege carts and scaling ladders are all used.
But Divarak has no intention of leaving. After the last troops withdraw inside, he completely blocks the city gates.
This is the posture of a fight to the death.
Siege battles are often brutal. On this continent, where siege technology is badly uneven, siege warfare is even more of a hellish battle.
