Now reading: Chapter 589: An Otherworldly “Popular” Referendum! from The Lord Of Blood Hill, a Adventure novel by Raymonbin.

Since the conversation has reached this point, Tobias naturally will not go looking for trouble.

He is the commander of the Imperial Knights and a Glory Rank professional. Is he supposed to go over and persuade a pitiful mother not to pursue the tragic death of her child?

He is a knight, not a thug.

He cannot afford to lose face like that, and the Empire even less so.

When the ti cos, if the Grand Princess clings to his leg and cries bitterly, what is he supposed to do?

So now, he can only give Semson a look that says he is helpless.

Knowing that things are about to go badly, Semson can only brace himself and say, "That is a private grudge. An illegitimate child who was never recognized cannot be considered a mber of the royal family.

"She can only be regarded as the legitimate daughter of the Dienbos family, and the Dienbos family is part of Lumir.

"Therefore, strictly speaking, this is an internal dispute within our country. It is our own affair, and your country has no right to interfere."

Prince Kullen sneers. "Can you be any more shaless? Now I understand who that beast Hanni inherited it from."

"You..."

Prince Kullen ignores the enraged King Semson, who rises to his feet. Instead, he waves his hand, and the attendant takes more docunts out of the box.

Prince Kullen distributes the docunts to each side. While everyone reads, Prince Kullen smiles and says, "We Ika still care about face. More importantly, we are reasonable.

"Even if what King Semson said just now is correct, and this is your internal dispute, it is no longer the case now.

"These docunts bear the crests of nobles from the region under our control.

"Including the Dienbos family, over sixty percent of the nobles in the occupied zone have declared that they are joining Ika Kingdom.

"Therefore, our current occupation is reasonable and legal.

"And in this case, we have even more right to pursue the earlier matter of your cruel murder of my younger cousin."

This ti, not only the others, even Henwell is stunned.

They can play it like this?

What kind of otherworldly popular referendum project is this?

Henwell looks at Prince Sundike beside him, his head full of question marks. Seeing Henwell cast him a gaze full of thirst for knowledge, Sundike thinks, So there are things even you do not understand.

He clears his throat, leans closer, and lowers his voice. "This is an ancient law. It can also be called a compact.

"It originated from the Western Federation and can be traced back more than two thousand years. Almost every country's foundational law contains this article.

"But for a thousand years, it has basically never been properly implented.

"It generally exists in competitions between lower lords. This is the first ti it has been applied between countries."

After Sundike explains it, Henwell roughly understands the function of this law.

It mainly exists to resolve disputes between small lords. For example, barons enfeoffed by the sa count competing over territory.

Apart from force, there is also this thod.

Even after succeeding through force, the baron must still obtain the loyalty and support of the knight-lords in the occupied zone.

If most of the knight-lords choose to follow the new baron, then the baron naturally obtains the occupied territory.

But if more than half of the knight-lords disagree, that proves the region does not want to be ruled by the victorious baron.

Then the territory must be taken back by the baron's liege, either a viscount or a count.

This law, or rather this rule, is ant to avoid losses among the nobility. It hopes to use a gentler thod to resolve such disputes.

Likewise, this also caused the status of nobles in later wars to beco one where they were rarely killed and had to be captured whenever possible.

After all, they still need those knight-lords to agree and vote for their rule.

In that era, great lords did not have absolute ruling power. It was unlike the present, where great lords can directly judge these disputes.

To put it more simply, the great lords of that ti did not have enough military force to suppress everyone.

What kind of figures are the great lords now?

Their ard forces can easily suppress all the enfeoffed families within their territories.

Thus, this law was gradually forgotten and left to gather dust in kingdom law.

Only in very rare circumstances would it be taken out and used once, and even then the results were usually unsatisfactory, nothing more than a way to muddy the waters.

Now, Ika Kingdom has actually pulled such a move. Clearly, it had planned against Lumir long ago.

This is not so shaless trick it only thought of after cooperating with Henwell this ti.

Henwell rubs his chin and feels that this is truly a strange move.

Damn it.

When he gets back, he has to make Peace Haven's legal office work overti and properly study the laws of every country to see whether there are any surprising clauses he can use.

Henwell feels this might be useful for him too.

In the future, after he takes a territory, he can simply kill the current lord, choose an obedient heir, and then hold a vote declaring support for his rule.

Would he still need to pay so much to lease territory?

Thinking of this, Henwell cannot help raising his head to look at Tobias.

"Your Excellency, if I want to start a vote in the occupied zone now, does it still count?"

Tobias, who already has a headache, glares at Henwell and says irritably, "Why are you still here? Your matter is finished. Go back and wait for the detailed negotiations."

Henwell curls his lip. "But the story is just getting exciting. I haven't finished listening."

Ultimately, under the solemn gazes of the two Glory Knights, Henwell slips out of the eting hall.

At the door, he happens to see Dilio Jorkson, Lumir's eldest prince, waiting outside.

The eldest prince frowns at Henwell. "When are you withdrawing your troops?"

Henwell shrugs. "Probably very soon. I am going back to prepare now."

The eldest prince still wants to ask sothing, but Henwell simply walks past him and heads outside.

The eldest prince calls out to Henwell. "Henwell, what is the result inside right now?"

"Why should I tell you?"

The eldest prince says in a low voice, "Because many of your undercover agents have been captured by ."

Henwell turns around and tilts his head to look at him. "What? Are you threatening ?"

Seeing Henwell's hand already resting on his sword hilt, the eldest prince is so frightened that he quickly takes a step back.

He is not worried that Henwell will kill him. He is worried that Henwell will co over and beat him up.

Right now, Lumir still needs things from Peace Haven, so it will not anger Henwell over a small matter.

If he gets beaten, it really will be for nothing.

The eldest prince forces himself not to flee. "You misunderstand. Of course I will obey the prisoner-of-war agreent and guarantee their safety.

"I an that if you reveal so information to , I can let those captured spies of yours live a little better in the prisoner camp."

Henwell thinks for a mont. "If you put it that way, I can give you so information.

"Ika now knows what your foolish fourth brother Hanni did.

"And what is even more unfortunate is that the girl nad Monica is the Grand Princess's illegitimate daughter."

Prince Dilio freezes for a mont and asks blankly, "Who? Monica who?"

Henwell shrugs and does not explain. Before leaving, he adds, "Oh, right. I should remind you of sothing.

"Ogiro's Prince Sundike now says he will only begin formal negotiations after stabbing a Lumir prince too.

"Your father has already been forced into a dead end.

"If you go in now, your father may very well hold you down and let Prince Sundike stab you."

Looking at Henwell's back, Prince Dilio hesitates for a long ti. Ultimately, he still does not enter the palace.

On one hand, he is afraid of being stabbed. On the other, he has rembered who Monica is.
